i hadn't. My 3 friends haven't either
Havent had a single crash in the 10 hours Ihave played.

Good to hear there's some! Wondering if it's just poorly-QA'd code (as it sounds like they were down to the wire on finishing), or if there's something else at play, like heat issues from taxing the CPU too much. Some of the crashes I've read about seem unrelated to proc gen code though, so it might just be sloppy code.

My god, the other NMS thread about not being able to see other people in the game is a total dumpster fire. People are just looking for reasons to justify their hateboner for this game.

How are the visuals?

IQ is pretty rough. Pop-in isn't as bad as the videos were before launch but the AA leaves a lot to be desired. Texture quality is low too. Can't really expect too much from a game of this scale on the PS4 though. Lighting, especially in the atmosphere has been my favorite bit. Art style definitely helps.

Nope, there should be a grave site. I died in combat yesterday, but was able to fly over and pick up all my junk.

Oh well, must have bugged out because I was in the menu trying to repair my shield. Next planet was a paradise planet and just found a new ship so I'll be staying here a while anyway.

I mean... Imagine how much better exploring the universe would be in coop.

I don't blame people who want to keep the dream alive.

That's fine. I get the appeal. But right now, like I said, the game has no infrastructure to support that and it was never promised, either.

If there were good gameplay systems in place to promote cooperative play, then it *would* be really important to find other players, but if you did now, it wouldn't be any more than an anomaly.

It's something that a lot of people wanted out of the experience and continue to make a big deal out of it not being included. Maybe Hello Games will find a way to make it work in the future (if they want to), but it's not worth criticizing the game for not having a feature when that feature was never part of the plan in the first place.

Galactic Fork

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
Soooo I'm about 10 hours in and I haven't left the first system. I keep getting distracted by scanning, and finding new places. My starting planet was fuuuuun. Radioactive desert with these annoying little insect thingies that live in caves and charge out and attack if I get within a few meters of their territory. I kinda wanna rename their speces "jerks." If there was no swear filter, I'd name them "stupid little fuckers"

I'm not sure this game is for me. I'm just not having much fun playing it. Is the fun supposed to come from gathering materials to repair stuff so you can inch out a little further?

So to the people that were really looking forward to this...

Disappointing or nah?

I'll be interested in seeing if folks still feel the same after 1-2 weeks worth of playtime regarding the planet hopping, exploration and overall formula of the gameplay. The early reaction seems extremely positive overall. I didn't care for any of it that I have played so far, not sure if I'll give it another go or not.

I've played about 7 hours. No crashes.

Spoiling just in case:
I found a few "drop pods" on my starting planet. They're kinda tall conic things, and you can hop up into them and you get an option to purchase an extra slot. IIRC, the first was free, then each following one increases in price by 10k.

Damn i've left my starting planet already . hopefully i'll find more on other crash sites or something

Thank for the answer

This is just going to be one of those games that's super divisive no matter what to the point that it isn't worth arguing over. At least not with people who haven't played it. There are legitimate complaints to be had with the game but a lot of that complaining in other threads and throughout YouTube and wherever are based off of... what exactly, ya know? Based off of nothing and just the desire to want to either bitch about something or the desire to see the game fail.

It's best not to sour your fun by going to the places where you know 75% of the feedback is from people who haven't played the game and had never planned on ever actually playing the game.

So fucking good.

Haven't felt like this about a game in a while.

ive spent a good bit of time now talking about mechanics and bugs and such especially to think about tips for beginners but yeah, uh, i don't want to lose sight of the fact that my current opinion is that this game is fucking magic

It has flaws and shit of course but I can't imagine being upset right now. i'm so glad I have tomorrow off, goddamn.

Thought they said it was in the day1 patch?
No sir.

They mentioned it in the day one patch notes, as something they're going to add in the next update. (hopefully)

Here's the quote, it's at the bottom of the notes.
"Next up we’re adding the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters. Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too. It will really change the game again, and enhance it visually."
Sitting on a mil, have 20 exo suit slots, discovered 60 words, special standing with my first race that hates the sentinals. I think I have a good start xD

Still on first planet

I'm in my 2nd system now and have upgraded my backpack and multi-tool multiple times now. I have to say, the additional space and upgraded performance is definitely making the game much more fun. I've had to force myself to take a break from playing and eat something, haha. This kind of addiction to a game hasn't happened for me in a long time.

Honestly this loop alone is fucking scary for me:
Farm, get better hyper drive, move onto next system. Repeat.

Addicting.
No Man Sky also has lore, trading, etc.

I think this is going to be like Fallout 4 for me....hundreds of hours.

I am so sad. UPS officially delayed my shipment until end of day tomorrow. Pre-ordered in March of 2016! Thanks Amazon. I live an hour from the nearest store that sells a game, so I guess I will have to just live of streams for the night. Hope you all enjoy it!

I landed on a forsaken planet last night which was pretty much Mars but more on the dull hellscape side but it happened to have oceans. The surface was completely barren and dead, managed to find a beacon that pointed me to a ruin in the water. As soon as I dove in, my jaw dropped. The entire sea floor was teeming with plant life. Vibrant colors and shapes everywhere. Moments like that get me through the resource collecting.

So is there always a suit storage space upgrade booth on
space stations through the other door out of the hanger that requires a level 1 Atlas pass? I've seen one in the last 3 stations I've been on
?

I have played around 3,5 hours. At first i kinda felt lost and didn't know what to do. Took me while to figure out the menus, the inventory and how to build things using the resources. The game doesn't do a good job explaining those things. So i left the first planet, flew to a few other planets, found the necessary parts for the hyperdrive and now what? I miss real goals. There must be more to the game than just exploring and mining resources. Otherwise this will get old really fast.

So what's the deal with the ship the game keeps bugging me to redeem? Am I just supposed to hit compare, move the stuff from my current ship to it, then hit accept or whatever and it'll replace my current ship? Can I do this any time? Is it better than the starting ship? How did I even get it?

My starting planet was a triple wammy sometimes. It was always toxic, mid-day to afternoon was radioactive and toxic, and night it was super cold lol. But the sentries wheren't TOO bad and the wild life was tame

What's the best way to earn units outside of 100%ing a planet?

For me, mining... Grr can't remember the name and I"m not at my ps4. It's light bluish green slabs or hills. a full 500 units gets me about 140k. and one slab gets almost 1000.

I feel the way playing this game that I feel people talk about with VR. I wasn't psyched for it or anything, but once I started playing I was instantly amazed.

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
I hope this game doesn't rely too much on trading. I love a good space sim like Elite etc but I am shit at commodity management.

The Power Reservoir item description seems to indicate that it improves energy use when it is idle in your inventory.

Am I reading too much into that or is that an actual affect of the item?

Hey,

I've been playing for an hour. Just an hour. It unlocked at midnight and of course I started right away.

This game is already blowing my mind. The planet was rocky but it had a lot of plants and animals, it had giant roots or tentacles stretching up into the sky, out of view. I called it Halleluiah. I got my ship in order and left.

On arrival at my second planet, just my second, I encountered acid rain for the first time in search of a beacon. I have gone no further.

The beacon is inside a massive, massive building of some sort. It looks like terrain, I mean it could be terrain but it also looks like a man made giant pillar. The old kind you imagine in your dreams finding on Mars.

The beacon is inside. Has anyone come across something like this? I went all the way around it in search for an opening and there was nothing. There's a cave system underneath it.

I'm uploading a video right now but I thought I'd include you in the mystery too. I literally had to stop playing this game an hour in because I had to talk to people about it. My imagination is running wild.

I'm about to take my ship and fly on top of the giant building/plateau. It's too high to get there.

I'll let you know what I find.

Here's that thing I talked about:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xxIK-k5U_s

Anyone else seen something like this?

I got inside.

But I did something really stupid.

Video to follow.

How does this even work? I got all the tick marks for animal species on the planet and uploaded them but the upload 100% with the bonus unit message keeps blinking. Do you need to scan all plant life too?
Not too sure, I get the same thing as you. I just make sure I scan and upload everything.

I'm still overwhelmed with the information the game's given me. but if I'm not completely wrong, you can find map rooms that point you to a specific location, they all happened to be in those where you have to shoot the door open. unfortunately, they're all too far away, I need a better hyperdrive.

this is my main motivation so far.

Amazon still says "Shipping Today" which had me worried, but luckily it was there when I got home. I'm going with Best Buy next time for new release games. Since it was shipped so late it got here in the evening. I'd rather not have half the day gone when I'm anticipating playing on launch day. I had work today so it was a minor issue this time.

Can't wait to start it up and see what starting planet I get.

kinda off topic, but does anyone know where I can find some standard size dvd cover for this game? That I can print out at home?

I have a PC physical copy but I want to replace the box art.

Can you get an entirely new exosuit (aside from the starting suit)?

I'm about 6 hours in, still on my first planet but it looks like I've filled up all the available space for empty slots in my exosuit.
