Is "What's the point of this thing?" the new "What do you do in NMS?"
?
To have a cheaper 'basic' PS4 to sell alongside the 'premium' Neo. Pretty straight forward.

You'd think because of molds, economy of scale, existing inventory etc that it wouldn't make much sense to make such a minor adjustment. I get the practice generally, but I mean honestly how much cheaper can the PS4 get? I guess we could get to PS3 super slim levels lol.
It's really not much smaller compared to the original PS4.
This slim model's 'announcement' is probably like a slide with a price reveal. So you think they are happy about this? Even if they are spending money and time to set up a conference? Of course not only for that, but still...
Looks ugly af.
The PS4 logo does not rotate now.
The power and eject buttons are inconveniently placed
Why the huge space between the 2 USB ports?
Cheap chrome plastic lining? Back to 2004?
It is not even much slimmer than OG PS4.
Fail Sony, they rushed this thing out.
I wonder how much the guy bought it for? Or how much did the gumtree seller sold it for?
So we are going to monitor gumtree for leaks in the future?
What the heck is a gumtree?
Still don't get the complaints about "ugly". Looks like a black box that sits nice in an entertainment center.
Perhaps you're right, but Neo will be out of my price range :/Neo probably has benefits even if you have 1080 display. Not saying the slim is a bad choice doe, interested to see how they pitch Neo at the meeting.
So who's going to buy one? With iterative hardware now on the scene surely the market will be quite small for slim consoles.
£300.
I'm late to the thread but why are the USB ports so spaced out?
If you think this is ugly, just wait till you see the final Neo hardware. Your eyes ain't ready. I suggest everyone listen to a live podcast instead of watching the conference. Your eyes will thank me.
My guess is so people who buy a multi USB hub can have 5 usb ports instead of 4 because it usually blocked out 2 usb spots since they were so close together.
So is it only the one slim in the wild that this guy had or are there more?
My line of thinking here is that they're going to re-use the molds etc. of the OG PS4 for the NEO. Otherwise I agree with you, this doesn't seem like a change that would save them a ton of money based on materials.

The PS4 logo never rotated, this is a joke right? The PS4 logo does not rotate now.

Uhm, can I ask you how you know this?
I wonder how Sony will react to this.
That looks awfully ugly. Not that it really matters I guess
So this and neo coming out this fall?
I'm sure they're annoyed but this is probably far and away the least important part about the event on the 7th. It might actually get more pub being 'leaked' now than it would being a footnote in two weeks.So..? Still is a disappointment for the company to see the actual product still to be announced not only leaked but even SOLD.
I mean...I am not criticizing the almighty Sony, you know? I'm just saying that they have set up an Event for Sept 7th during which they would have probably unveiled also this HW (alongside the Neo: if there will be no PSP3, this would have covered more than 1 slide and a price, I'm pretty sure, especially if the Neo will skip the Fall '16 sales) and were probably planning a "WOW" moment with some sort of "available NOW in stores!" surprise, and they got screwed.
I'd be pissed of about this.
The lack of optical audio is really annoying.
Also, don't understand why the USB ports are spaced as they are. Its weird.
Ugliest piece of tech Sony has conjured up for a playstation. Love my og white ps4. Why do Playstations always get uglier sans Ps2 or worse through hardware revisions. Upgrading to the Neo, hopefully it will be Sexy af.
This, Neo and VR lol
seems like way too much HW at one time
I wonder how Sony will react to this.
The OG PS's always look better than the slims except possibly the ps3 imo. JHust them cutting a ton of costs for people meanwhile also allowing them to refine pieces of the product in the manufacturing process and make it more reliable.
This def will be hitting at 249. If they go as low as 199 I wouldn't be surprised. Then they couple that with the NEO they have two options for people to get into the PlayStation platform which is pretty cool.

The PS4's already slim and this is 2/3 the thickness.Doesn't look slim at all..
Nope he's just text me asking if I still want one.seller said he'd be selling more today. sony probably stopped him tho

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/insigni...lack/4694700.p?id=1219801836579&skuId=4694700Damn, no more USB ports ? It's a nightmare to juggle with all my USB equipment on PS4 (USB headset, 2 USB Fighting sticks, the USB charge thing...).
That looks so nice
