Halo 5: Forge - First PC Gameplay (Custom Match + 4K Map Flythrough)

These will just have your standard 4v4 halo game modes. There's no leveling system, just standard custom games. Most game modes have weapons spawn in specific spots on the map, at set intervals.

This particular game mode spawns you with two random weapons.

Surely custom games on PC are completely customisable and up to 16 players? It's not just standard gamemodes, this is the full custom games system AFAIK.

It drops sometimes doesn't it? If the physics don't break under 60fps I imagine they won't break over it.

Didn't know this. Interesting.

I remember digital foundry saying it was pretty flawless.

I don't know the technical side of 60fps animations and drops so I'll leave that to others.

No, Variable resolution. It's always 60fps.

I hope 343 change the art design for the next game. There is lots of nice detail there but it still looks disappointing.

I think Mercy is an example of excellent design. Halo always looked best when alien architecture was at the forefront. Halo5 relies to much in human constructs, and that isn't nearly as interesting.

It's funny seeing the mouse cursor in use when he's tweaking the sensitivity in the options, lol.

Enjoy PC players, the gameplay for Halo 5 is sublime, just feel so good!

By standard i mean the typical halo arena gametypes. Ofcourse you can tweak them to make your own rulesets and variants.

There's no Warzone in this release- which is new to halo and separate from the arena experience

Yeah definitely, always liked Alien themed maps but I'm not a great fan of their alien design either. It's still too Transformers and not ancient.

I feel that way about H5 forerunner stuff for sure. I think the covenant stuff was hit or miss this time around. But I think they nailed everything about Sanghelios.

Looks incredible, and I'm excited to play the game at a steady 1080/60, but I'd love it if they'd let us disable the framerate scaling on animations. I hate seeing animations of far-off characters running at 30 or 15 fps.

Fucking hype

Forgot how great the audio in this game is

And the texture quality compared to Xbone is ridiculous. Consider the fact that when making this game originally, they had no idea it would ever be released on PC, and yet the artists made all these high quality textures anyways just so they could be downgraded heavily for the platform being released on.

They actually not going to have a server browser?

what's the logic behind that?
Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm assuming it's P2P. So technically...

Not including MM is just outright stupid imo. If they offer a browser that would be okay, but I doubt that will happen.
Kind of feels like that recent release and fail of Halo Online for PC over in Europe, where they released a lackluster Halo game on PC, and because it didn't do well, that must mean PC gamers don't actually want Halo.

Give us a gimped game, and if we don't like it, we must not want the full thing.

Why are we crying for matchmaking and other stuff when this is free and let's pc players get their friends together for some matches.
Because PC gamers would pay for the full thing, and you can't really just say, "hey, if you want the full game, go play with a controller and low quality graphics for a monthly fee."

man i really hope the community will be big enough to play this.

Halo5 looks really great, its (was) just on the wrong platform :D

Everything is run on dedis so no P2P. And this is really a tool for forgers not average gamers, custom games is just a nice side thing, so they are not going to have a custom games browser.

Hnnngggg it looks so good. All of the technical comprises that had to be made for the XB1's silky smooth 60fps are gone, and I couldn't be happier. So damn crisp.

Why is it stupid? Its called Halo 5: Forge. Not "Halo 5 Arena: Sell your Xbox One Edition"

Why are we crying for matchmaking and other stuff when this is free and let's pc players get their friends together for some matches.

Come on I expected better from you faz.

File browser is confirmed to launch alongside the PC version for both platforms.

Sorry, I'm in class lol I meant to sell a matchmaking fee or something. That would be super cool. Either way, it's great that Xbox One owners now have a better way to create forge maps.

Btw, I don't mean a file browser (although that's awesome), I meant an old fashioned server browser so communities can be formed (a la TF2 or Counter-Strike).

Finished the video with the brief snippets from one of the Halo 5 devs.

Sounds a lot like Microsoft forced their hand in the direction of, "this isn't for PC gamers, this is for Xbox One gamers who want an alternate method to create maps."

Between that tuning of the controls for people used to using an Xbox One controller, and making forge more accessible to people who were afraid of its depth, it makes this sound less like a PC version of Halo 5, and more like a tool for the console gamers to use, which doesn't make any sense to me.

Because the forge community has been requesting this since Halo 3

Apologies for coming off rude in my post. I think selling dedicated server space using custom games browser would be kinda neat. You could have GAF buy one and then we just run Super Fiesta all day.

How'd you come to the conclusion that MS forced their hand? If they sought to add all the features you want, do you think the app would be launching on Sept 8th.

Also regarding controls, you got it backwards. They took a game that was completely designed around a controller, and tuned it for MK/b... Which is inherently more accessible for a map editor.

But yes it IS a tool for existing console forgers to use. I also imagine a number of people will use it to actually play customs... Even if they don't use the map editor.

It's something that's been on wishlists since Halo 3. Makes perfect sense to me.

By watching the video linked in the OP where one of the devs said exactly what I described?

Where this post before yours makes more sense as a response to mine:

Oh no, it definately is a tool for forgers (hence the name).

My question is: how did you come to the conclusion that MS 'forced' them to take this approach?

How does adding KB/m controls support that conclusion?

no worries, but thanks.

My post did look ignorant.

Because the dev said they had to make the kb/m controls accessible to those familiar with the Xbox One controls, which isn't something done for PC ports, but tools intended for console gamers.

But this opinion is clearly wrong assuming this happened because of the push Forge users were making for a PC version of the tool since Halo 3.

In the wake of all these other Xbox exclusives coming to PC, it just really feels like that's not the case though.

I'd rather have the Halo Master Chief Collection
And I think Microsoft would prefer if everybody forgot that exists.

Yeah I hope to see H3 and Reach on PC at some point... hopefully when UWP dies and Microsoft doesn't care about mods.

I understand not pushing the whole game, but for what you've already developed and plan on releasing, why not just include a Matchmaking/Server Browser system?

You have the game's whole Multiplayer in with the exception of Warzone, you're allowing players to group up and play matches through Custom Games, just implement a Matchmaking system and you'd be golden. Just seems like an odd choice.

Everyone who is currently a forger has been using a controller... We all agree that this app is for forgers... So why wouldn't the dev try to make the transition in controls smooth? That doesn't take a publisher mandate. That's just common sense.

He also mentioned that they needed to "add the depth inherent to KB/m" input. It sounds like 343i recognizes their audience will likely be a mix of console and PC users and designed the controls accordingly.

Yes there is a push to bring Xbox games to PC, but H5, which had been in development since last gen, wasn't designed to readily make that transition. It makes a lot of sense to start with forge and custom games.
