New Nintendo Direct upcoming Live on September 1st at 16:00 CEST for 3DS

If they know then why not announce at the very least a timeframe? What they're doing now just annoys people at best and creates pessimistic predictions of delays and/or incompetence at Nintendo at best.

You know what would actually be incompetent? Ignoring 60 million people just to please a vastly lower amount regarding a product that isn't launching until March anyway.

Also, the direct hasn't happened yet. Chill.

Nintendo is not 'trolling' anybody. Nintendo is a business and their current most successful product, the 3DS is a main focus to them regardless of the arrival of NX or not. Some of you act as if they should just dump the 3DS and pretend the thing no longer exists. Sorry, but you would be very wrong to think that - they're a business and will do what businesses do - strive to make money.

NX is coming, be it September, October, March or even the backend of the year, just be patient.

I think there's still a good chance that the NX reveal is not too far down the road. This direct feels like the final send off last-gen-oriented communication/promotion from Nintendo.

Next announcement from them will probably be NX focused.
... I hope.

I'm pretty sure they said "No NX news" for the last direct they did earlier this year too because they know people are hyped for it.

Yes, but that's what I'm saying. They have to KEEP saying it, and they KNOW we're hyped for it, so maybe...idk...give me a lil something something, Nintendo.

Why is it one or the other? Sony announcing the Playstation Meeting isn't somehow stopping them from releasing info about upcoming PS4 games, why would it be the same for Nintendo?

I find it funny that so many people are upset by Nintendo showing support this late in the 3DS' life cycle. I mean don't you want a company to do that? Weren't people raving about how Sony didn't just up and abandon the PS3? Would you rather they treated it like the Wii U? Chances are this direct will be DQ and Pokemon heavy, but that's not a bad thing.

I think people are more upset by the wasted potential of the direct and disappointed (again) by the fact that it's now September, the rumored month of the NX reveal, and the first Nintendo news we hear is the company clarifying that their new console (and games) are not going to be revealed yet again.

It's cool that we'll see a new pokemon or two, but nothing noteworthy will be announced because they're not going to announce a new game, outside of localizations or virtual titles, this late in the life cycle. Almost all development effort is being placed on the NX.

They've already done fairly heavy Pokemon and Dragon Quest coverage, so while it's not a bad thing to show off again, it's certainly not something to get excited over at this point.

I saw the thread title and got shocked. I then find out it's just a 3DS direct because they have no Wii U games to show.

There aren't any upcoming wii u games. Nintendo could barely handle developing for two systems as it was. There was just no way they could ever do 3 (Wii u+ 3DS + having compelling nx stuff on time for the first year).

If you have to cut one of those 3 options, it's a no brainer to drop the Wii U support for the last year.

If anything, this announcement should make people happy, as it'll probably be the last time a Nintendo Direct isn't focused on NX. I'm glad this is occurring at the beginning of the month.

If I were Nintendo, I'd announce the NX reveal date the morning after the PlayStation Meeting.

Yeah of course, I was mainly replying to Retropie's assertion that us knowing the NX announce date/timeframe would somehow prevent Nintendo from doing this Direct.

You guys think that Detective Pikachu is gonna get localized soon, or do you think they'll wait for the movie to have its cast before they localize it? If nothing else, the existence of the movie gives Nintendo & The Pokémon Company an excuse to spend more money on the voice acting budget.

This is illegal. If it's delayed, it will be due to circumstances that actually caused them to miss their target date, not because they lied.

I imagine that happens a lot in business. Should Nintendo come out and say at a later date that the NX has been delayed to Q2 2017, how would market regulators be able to prove that they knew all along that the system wouldn't be ready by March? It's very very difficult. This sort of thing probably happens yet its unreported most of the time because it can't be proven

I think people should stop looking at rumors as facts. Nintendo didn't promise a September reveal. When the time comes they'll tell us.

I don't think they care what a forum thinks right now. Or maybe they are letting PS have there meeting first to not lose the spotlight. Whatever it is, I don't think we need to be impatient.

Then again I wonder how you guys would react to a delay?

You don't know that, there could still be a mobile focused Nintendo Direct for prolonged suffering!
Though I am really interested in what mobile Fire Emblem will be like.

I personally think Nintendo doesn't care about the Playstation Meeting at all, and they're just going to schedule the NX reveal for whenever. They'll always march to the beat of their own drum, for better or for worse.

I feel like it would remove the point of the direct to mention the NX at all. This is the last hurrah for the 3DS and it should get the spotlight all for itself. Then, as soon as NX coverage starts Nintendo can exclusively talk about it from that point onwards.

Basically OrbitalBeard is spot-on. And if you want an announcement for the announcement, well they can do that in any way shape or form really.

Hmm.

I wonder if MyNintendo will finally get a serious rewards update, given that the direct and the update should be same day. Been massively disappointing with just stuff expiring the last few times, that I already have no hope for the service (and will still somehow be disappointed)

Idk. Nintendo is really doing this ZERO talk of anything NX until they're completely ready and that includes reveal dates to consumers (who've been following NX news on a daily basis and losing their minds lol).

I'm on the wagon of this is the last of the 3DS news to get out of the way, so they can finally talk about NX.

Also, Rosti had mentioned in a few closed NX topics ago how Nintendo had a little trouble with the NX and it was all good now (I can't remember what he exactly said. I believe it was related to them revealing the NX)

Yes, but that's what I'm saying. They have to KEEP saying it, and they KNOW we're hyped for it, so maybe...idk...give me a lil something something, Nintendo.

I think they will give us NX talk after this 3DS info is out of the way. Just remember the Nintendo of Canada president said they wouldn't talk about NX until fall and fall doesn't start until September 23. In my eyes it's lining up.

The NX right now is included in their sales projections for the fiscal year. Its very likely they would take a massive hit in their financials if the NX was to miss the fiscal year on top of the legal issues blatantly lying to investors would cause.

Except they did mention the NX, thereby acknowledging that they know people want to see it enough that it not being in a Direct deserves a special disclaimer. It's the "Streisand Effect", by simply not telling us anything about the NX outside of "we have nothing" they're taking away attention from things like this 3DS Direct. It would work so much more as a last hurrah if people knew the NX announcement was coming at a certain date.

People have no patience.
Its not patience for me. This thing comes out in March, MARCH! ITS SO SOON!

But I need to know a PRICE!! Thats the important thing. I have limited money and I need to know how much I need to save because I MUST BUY THIS DAY ONE!!!

HOWEVER...You may be just asking "well why not stop buying stuff?" The problem is I CAN'T!!!! I see somethibg and I buy it, even now theres the new PSN Indie sale where I want 3 games that equal $20. I need to resist, but with no news about this mythical make believe system its hard not to say fuck it and biy other things.

BUT I CAN'T BUY OTHER THINGS!!!!! IF I DO I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET NX DAY ONE BUT I HAVE TOO BECAUSE ITS A NINTENDO SYSTEM!!!!!!

BUT I CAN'T SAVE MY MONEY BECAUSE I'M WEAK!!!!!!!

Nintendo literally has me in tears because I can't save money for this supposed system. I don't even have the will to captilize letters anymore. :(

So tired of this. Just need a price, fuck the launch lineup just give me a price. I need to spend money now damnit. :(

We should have those avatar bets (think Ash Ketchum) for when the NX launches because I'd totally put my shitty avatar down for late 2017 at this point.

They've been mentioning the NX won't be in Directs for the past year. That's the downside of announcing it so early.

I really don't understand why people need to know when it's going to unveiled right now. We know it's going to be shown soon, so just be patient. If we're in like mid-October without a peep on the system, then sure, start freaking out.

Of course people don't need to know, but Nintendo's radio silence (as in, saying the NX exists and nothing more) so close to the supposed release of the thing is wearing people's patience down.

EDIT: Changed it to not sound so dickish, didn't realize until I read it again :p

Lots of things that could be in this Direct.

  • Monster Hunter Stories coming West/Trailer
  • Pokemon Sun/Moon new info/trailer
  • Dragon Quest VII releasing reminder
  • Dragon Quest VIII stuff
  • SMT4-Apocalypse Releasing reminder
  • Yo-Kai Watch 2 releasing reminder
  • New Amiibo info
  • Ace Attorney 6 releasing reminder
  • Chase: Cold Case info
  • Ever Oasis New Info/trailer
  • Mario Party new info/trailer
  • Indie Stuff (Runbow, Azure Striker Gunvolt)

That's probably enough for a direct right there, although I am sure there will be a surprise or two in addition to that stuff. With a JP direct announced and most of that stuff already being released there I do have to wonder.

God the 3DS seems like it coasting on fumes at this point. Really not I to a single one of those franchises. :(

The movie won't come out for another 3 years or so. The current Detective Pikachu game is episodic and not that long altogether. I'd say there's a decent chance it'll release this year, but very likely before NX release.

By the time the movie releases there will be at least one more new Detective Pikachu game.

I understand why they would focus on the 3DS at this moment. They have nothing else this holiday, so they need to rely heavily on 3DS hardware and software, but this is the root of everyone's frustration in this thread. This is the reaction to not just a delay , but multiple delays. The NX is coming, The NX will be revealed at E3, The NX reveal TBA but it's definitely coming in March!, Zelda is coming, Zelda will release 2015, Zelda will release 2016, Zelda will release 2017, etc.

Nintendo has been delaying for years. It's old hat and is also the cause of rampant speculation and fan frustration/disappointment. When you can't stick to your own deadlines, the only thing anyone can do is speculate at what is happening/going to happen.

Lmao the actual title of this thread is just trolling at it's finest. You got all hyped reading the title until you finish it with "for 3DS". Never change GAF, never change.

And stay turned for another Nintendo Direct exclusively about Wii U!

Maybe people are being way too pessimistic about the NX, but the line of reasoning that the NX can't be delayed because that would be illegal is really strange.

"We mentioned last year that we were going to launch the NX in March in order to prepare enough software to drive those initial sales. Unfortunately we were not able to prepare an adequate amount of software that would meet our needs. This is mainly due to the new architecture that is no longer compatible with our previous ones. For that reason we'll be launching yada yada yada..."

I don't think the investors could sue you for that...

You may just be deceived by your environment here (aka this forum). As enthusiasts, people are undoubtedly on the edges of their seats. However, I can guarantee that most potential NX buyers aren't, at all. So unless Nintendo keeps their silence until next year or something ridiculous like that, it frankly won't matter much.

And they know that they have you as an enthusiast by the balls anyway and that you will keep up with the news as long as it's needed until the NX gets revealed. So they have your attention at the end of the day, frustration or not.

EDIT: Dark Cloud nailed it. After Animal Crossing or whatever gets announced as an NX launch title, everyone will rejoice anyway.

It doesn't matter whose patience is running thin. When the day comes for Nintendo to reveal the NX all of us nerds will be there with hype machines and hype trains and forget Nintendo ever made us wait this long for the reveal lol.

It'll be fun for the "I waited 2 years for this?" posts.

I guess you are right, I'll be hyped to all hell when it finally arrives just like someone who's fine with Nintendo's silence. However that doesn't change the fact that so many people here and on other gaming sites are frustrated with legitimate reasons for being so. We need to let people be frustrated because saying "just be patient" only makes things worse.
