And this is one of the games that's been marketed as being one a part of the greatest game line up in Xbox history, home to the console with the "best exclusive blockbusters"...

I hate this marketing campaign and Microsoft shouldn't be advertising like this until their games are actually critically acclaimed. There's nothing wrong with saying that you have the best games, but they've doing this shit before the games are even released for mediocre titles such as Ryse.

The game barely even had marketing. What are you talking about?

I just bought it. Read some reviews and seems to be fine for $40 to me. I can live with the loading times and bugs as long as it's not game breaking. I'm liking the more oldschool aproach. Only thing i'm not liking is that it sounds like all the difficult platforming is at the end. I'm hoping the difficulty curve isn't too easy and then suddenly too hard. I hate those spikes in games and much rather have a smooth curve.

Anyway i can't wait untill tomorrow, i need a new game untill all the big hitters releases.

Also i'm not sure why some people expected an AAA game for $40. Seems to me it was always advertised as a AA game.

Because Microsoft said it would be a AAA game.
"We wanted there to be no barriers. We wanted to be able to give you a great AAA that gives you $60 of value but if you aren't sure, not let that be the barrier of a tradeoff of, 'Hey there's a $60 game and there's this game.' We wanted you to be able to get in."

I expected it to be 72 meta. Either way, it seems like a decent game to pick up. I'd personally wait for it to drop to about $20 though.

lol

That was never going to happen with this game.

It's actually had quite a bit. Hell, Xbox UK's Twitter account even had a 'ReCor-gi' takeover recently, and as he said, it's been touted as part of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history. The marketing has been pretty heavy since E3, just not on the same level as Gears or Halo. I think they've done a better job at marketing it than Sony has done with some of their 'smaller' titles.

I predicted 71 at best. But expected many poor reviews. Everything I'm reading doesn't fill me with dread. I've never been bothered by fetch quests.
To the point they pad the shit out of the game? Might be the kicker for me, that and the spiking in difficulty at the end my two most hated things.

Damn, these reviews are disappointing.

Really hope Microsoft doesn't send this game to the back burner indefinitely.

Give Rare or something a shot at a sequel with proper funding and whatever engine they are using for Sea of Thieves.

Not sure if true it's had a strong online push and I've seen it a lot on posters etc, they didn't send it out to die at all but it wasn't a quantum break level of ad spend either.

Above average is a bad game? I mean I've not cared much for it but scores and people making this out to be super bad is stupid. Please.

Except it's not scoring above average. Per open critic, at its current score of 63, it's in the bottom 23.7% of all games scored on open critic.

In games a 63 is way below average.

Game looked pretty bad from the videos, auto-lock aiming in 2016? That was never going to work.

People tend to shit on Microsoft for their reliance on Halo, Gears and Forza but at least, those games deliver. I'm very much for New IPs but get some quality studios to make them.

those 2 example also give a hint you where you must focus on to have good review : presentation with not challenging /demanding gameplay ...(but poslish is also to blame here)

All those 'Darks Souls' games getting high scores must have been a fluke then.
Some of you are reaching.
Ratchet and Clank got great reviews, not only for the polish, but also because it was pure FUN throughout to play and the pacing was spot on..unlike this game.

People keep saying this. 63 is not above average because video game scores aren't uniformly distributed. If you look at opencritic, they show a score distribution. this game is in the bottom 23% of games. So it is way below average. It's not even better than a quarter of games out there.

If you make 7 the average reviews need to start at 2 and go to 12, which would move this games goal post to between a 8 or 9 still being above average.
No. If the class average in a class is 70%, that doesn't bump the highest possible grade to 120%. That doesn't stop some student from getting a 0% in the class, they would just have to be a major outlier.

Every other R&C game has been full priced from my recollection. The quality there was fit for a full priced game. I'm not saying cheaper games can't be of quality, but I stand by the reason we got a cheaper price was to promote the movie at the time. Since it is a tie into that.

Regardless, the game was good and the price made it even better. I'm not saying anything negative about the game.

I definitely remember Into the Nexus being $40 when it came out.

I can't Imagine what the game was like when it was supposed to release at the beginning of the year. It probably should have been delayed again and had someone take a ax to all the pading bullshit.

Because it's a small 15 minute slice of gameplay from a dungeon? I mean most of the complaints here are about performance issues like long loading screens and bad pacing with the core fetch quests. How would anyone know any of those things after playing at E3? Come on

At E3 it was looking far from hot, and it didn't certainly play like a solid game. On the contrary, it was giving away very low-budget, underwhelming vibes.
Was it a 15 minute slice of gameplay from a dungeon (of a product still in development)? Yes, it was (actually from 2 dungeons, one shown behind closed doors and one playable at the Xbox Event at the Galen Center).
That said, I think you could legitimately tell this game was certainly not gonna be the next big thing, or the suprise "Zelda X Metroid Prime X Megaman" hit that some said it would be.

Average doesn't always have to be the arithmetic mean. In many cases (such as this) you use the median.

A games rating system goes from 0 (bad) - 5 (average) - 10 (great) for its time. If you're gonna rate games outside that this whole system falls apart and is meaningless.

Sounds like an Xbox equivalent to the recent ratchet and clank titles. Will def give it a shot. I want to support cheaper new games

I saw gameplay for the first time recently and it didn't look it played well. That comment about it being a PS2-era game isn't meant as a compliment.

No, the whole curve is just skewed because quality control exists somewhat and publishers/developers try to release good content. Or rather, they try not to release bad content.

Congrats, you've cracked the code of video game review scores ;)

As for the game, shame it isn't a home run. I'm still excited to play it though, so I'll pick it up this week and decide for myself
