Sony’s Andrew House Found Microsoft’s Response to the PS4 Pro “Quite Intriguing”

I'm surprised that not many people have realised that it was just a Twitter account that said this. It's like how the Sonic Twitter takes jabs sometimes, and the guy behind it, while an absolute genius, doesn't really have a high up job at Sega. In fact, I think most big gaming companies have a social media advertising department or something like that.

This begs the question, how does some of this stuff get through? Again, look at the Sonic Twitter. They got away with that attack helicopter tweet despite it sparking controversy. There really wasn't anything harmful about the tweets, some of the things listed were things that the XB1 arguably has over the PS4/Pro. I'm surprised that Sony are willing to respond to this but stay radio silent on the Bethesda mods situation to be honest.

The day the competition reveals that their product is missing features is PRECISELY the day Microsoft SHOULD mention they have those features. You think they shouldn't take advantage of the situation because they might hurt feelings?!
😂
Wow no one is saying goes they should not do it. Just don't spend a year saying you are above that stuff and then suddenly start throwing potshots at the first chance you get

Kinda sad that they can't even confirm if the PS4 Pro will support Sony's own 4K streaming service.

Really, you're leaving it up to Netflix to be the only source of 4K video on a console whose purpose is to serve 4K owners?

I never said he was hypocrite, I said he is salty

You're mistaking salty for bemused.

Salty is about losing, being angry/ upset and being envious.

PS4 far ahead in sales, even in the US? check
PS4 still the most powerful console? check
PS4Pro will be more than 3x as powerful as the next Xbox One? check
Scorpio more than a year away, and likely outdated within 12-16 months with a PS5 leak/ announcement? check

Now did Sony possibly mess up with no UHD drive in the Pro? Imo yes. But for the greater market, that still remains to be seen frankly.

If House had wanted to be a smart ass about it, he could have said he was glad to see Microsoft so eager to advertise their willingness to participate in Sony's patent/ royalties income with the UHD format, but that's neither here nor there.

House is not the one that mentioned wanting to stay above the fray and that this kind of behavior was now in the past (Spencer), while obviously still having your minions taking shots every chance they get on twitter to amuse the (fanboy) gallery.

So ... no lies (or salt) detected ?

Advertising a feature that your competitor doesn't have now constitutes a "pot shot"?

Meh, I would probably find more entertainment from this if this generation hadn't just been nothing but remasters, smaller 8/16 bit styled games and hardware reboots. For me this gen has been a disaster for the number of new games that push the hardware on both sides.

MS: Look at all these features we offer on the Xbox

This is a great summary

I always felt MS '180' face turned was rather forced and faked. That Phil Spencer dude suddenly talking about 4thegamers, when he was one of the rats in Xbone DRM-TV-TV-ESRAM team.

So im not surprised about their recent antics and House is right to point it out for awareness.

The "Humble Microsoft" thing is all down to Phil Spencer's industry commentary, right? Or was there a division-wide "let's all be friends" PR campaign that I missed?

Well, thats probably how he felt :p

Just wondering, what was funny about that?

We looked at that and said that's probably where we should place our emphasis.

But I don't think you should extrapolate out from that to say that's now going to change our philosophy around other areas of the business.

Will the PS4 Pro support Sony's Ultra Streaming service?

I think that's a 'to be determined' at this point.

The gap between "emphasis" and "to be determined".

I think Phil himself is a very pleasant and aimiable fellow, he is quite a long way from the smarm of Peter Moore, Jack Tretton and Shawn Layden.

Let's be real though, there is no response to that question that wouldn't have been construed as "petty" or "arrogant"

"Just concentrating on what we're doing, and not what the competition is saying, has served us well so far"?

Just off the top of my head.

Seeing the number of people still smarting from that 'used games' thing Sony did (in this thread even) all these years later, it appears so.

You're only allowed to mention things if mad?

Correct. Shouldn't mention them if you're asked directly about them, even.

"Just concentrating on what we're doing, and not what the competition is saying, has served us well so far"?

Just off the top of my head.

Then you'd just get some variation of: "Ignoring what the competition is doing? Typical arrogant Sony!" or some such.

There's always a way to spin these things to fit how you want to react to them if the need is strong enough.

If Samsung came out on the same day and talked about how their phones have regular headphone jacks unlike iphone7 when Samsung had absolutely no announcements of their own to make, would that be a pot shot?

Lol, where do you think you are?

We are in a thread that will reach triple digits about a tweet.

Ah ok, i see. Is that service still tied to Sony 4K TVs only? Maybe thats why he couldnt give any definitive answer. Would be strange if it doesnt come to PS4 as well some time in the future.

Also runs on PCs featuring 7th-gen Intel Core PCs. Sony Pictures is scared of pirates.

Its 4K in games since its a game console first.

I think there is a mis-perception of Ps4p within neogaf. Ps4p is not a next gen console, its not a blur the gen console. It is more like a Ps4 slim bigger brother. Think of it as the usual Sony mid-gen refresh, now with a choice of smaller footprint or more grunt.

Indeed. I mean putting the effort for something like backward compatibility, Xbox Play anwhere and better revision/upgrade products.. That's for the players and not just a slogan. Funny how things turned. I sometimes regret going with Sony this gen.

Lol he's not wrong.

But I don't think anyone here on GAF really ever bought the whole new MS, we don't want to be about console wars act though. I remember virtually everyone saw it for what it was: not wanting to compete because they were losing bad.

It does not support native 4k games.

The only native 4k support is by third party media apps, which they advertised at the PlayStation Event because gaming comes first I guess.

Nintendo is the classiest company of the three of late.
Not only have they said nothing about the competition's products, they haven't said anything about their own.

Such a wierd comment, but an even weirder discussion.

It's not low or disrespectful in for a company to highlight a strength their product has over its competition. Marketing products is a vital part of competition.

I'm not sure why House would be "intrigued" by this (since everyone does it). And I'm not sure how it marks some "return" to poor behavior on MS' part.

Yep, and they took plenty of shots toward MS too. Gotta take it, if you dish it out. Really, this is all very mild, and mildly entertaining.

I don't think House is at all saying he can't take it. I think he's just pointing out that MS's holier than thou stance about console wars for the past 2 years or so was basically BS.

Which again, I think was transparent to pretty much anyone. Companies will take little shots at their competitors until the end of time.
