Sony’s Andrew House Found Microsoft’s Response to the PS4 Pro “Quite Intriguing”

It does not support native 4k games.

The only native 4k support is by third party media apps, which they advertised at the PlayStation Event because gaming comes first I guess.

Of cause it supports native 4K games, it just depends on the game. Less hardware intensive titles can very well run in 4K.

I know that. I'm just saying the pro is just ps4 wih more grunt, what made og ps4 succesful is the 4thegamers concept, this strategy will continue with the slim n pro brothers.

Any changes will come with the ps5

Competition between companies only benefits consumers. It would be horrible if they were buddies and colluded together somehow.

Simply stating your console have something your competition don't is stepping over the line?

That's tame as all hell, especially given the ways I've seen hardware manufacturers, not just console makers, taunt each others over the years, e.g motherboard brands.

Its all lame at this point.

The war for this generation was over before it even began thanks to Microsoft putting a double barreled shotgun in their collective mouths and pulling the trigger with all the garbage they wanted to launch the original Xbox One with.

I dunno Sony did the whole thing about lending used games and all the features on the E3 stage during the PS4 reveal and there were people who felt that was over the line.

Way I see it anything that's not illegal is fair in love, war and business

Yep.

The only good aspect of midgen refreshes: it keeps the console war hot and constructors can't get too complacent like at the end of past gens.

Nintendo is the classiest company of the three of late.
Not only have they said nothing about the competition's products, they haven't said anything about their own.

Mario on iOS buddy. You miss that news? I somehow doubt it. Real classy of them, failing so hard that they had to go to a mobile 3rd party.

Such a wierd comment, but an even weirder discussion.

It's not low or disrespectful in for a company to highlight a strength their product has over its competition. Marketing products is a vital part of competition.

I'm not sure why House would be "intrigued" by this (since everyone does it). And I'm not sure how it marks some "return" to poor behavior on MS' part.

I agree. As I asked earlier in the thread:

I would like to see what people consider to be "console war talk" and normal advertising. That twitter ad is about as tame as it gets by "console war" standards (that's what people are mad about, right?). I guess the timing of the ad is what makes people the most upset...?

Put another way, I'd be curious to see what people think MS is allowed to say/do if they have a policy of being "above console wars"? How would you run the group if you held that policy? I suspect most advertising just wouldn't happen, right?

And is it impossible to be humble and advertise your product?

I find this whole thing to be a giant non-controversy, but I'm really fascinated by the ire it's generating and would love to understand the psychology/logic behind it.

For what it's worth, I don't think advertising your features is console wars, even if timed with a rival announcement. At face value, I wouldn't describe the 2013 used games video as "console wars" either - just smart advertising and capitalization (even if it was done smugly).

That's it I'm selling my PS4, I cannot be associated to this sort of......mud-slinging. I remember when console wars used to mean something

The age of Sony is done

Reggie and Miyamoto have no problem talking shit about their competition's need for better graphics and VR. They laughed at the idea of consoles going online.

If I pulled that off, would you die?
It's a show. I sit back & watch these guys snipe each other, and reap the rewards. My dollars aren't accounted for. Deliver what I want and I'll throw money at you, doesn't matter if it's Sony or MS.

My sentiments exactly.

Damn good entertainment though.

Because Microsoft advertising (probably in combination with some Sony decisions) shook people on here to their core apparently and left them disoriented.
It's absolutely insane how some think advertising features is console wars.

Phil Spencer getting called out. Flip flop on his "console war stance".

Never believe him. His disingenuous tweets to make himself look like a good guy, all a stupid PR ruse.

It wasn't over the line at all. MS was ready to force DRM on anyone who bought a XB1. They got what they deserved.

The fact that people are comparing something evil like that to PS4 Pro missing a non-gaming feature is hilarious to me. Like MS has anything to capitalize here.

While I do agree that Spencer comes across a little too squeaky clean, at least the guy's completely consistent. He said that he wasn't a fan of the tweets on the Xbox account.

It does support native 4k games. Naughty Dog have already confirmed they're bringing TLOU remastered to the system in 4k.

You say this but your brethren obviously feel the sharing video is a pot shot and as did most reasonable people. So do you feel the 2013 video is just advertising the features of the Ps4 and had meaning or ill intent towards X1?

Also lol at shook to the core and disoriented.

The people calling Andrew House a hypocrite are idiots. Andrew never said he disliked taking shots at the competition. Phil Spencer, however, did.

What? He's actually pretty much the only one that said nothing. Did you see his tweet about it?

I feel like people are taking things to personally lol.
Stuff is just marketing.

I really dont get it he was asked a question and barely said anything.

If you read the original quote too, the "short-lived" comment is a jibe at UK politics. Yes, it's tacitly implied that he's referring to Microsoft, and he probably shouldn't have answered the question, but I think if the conversation was filmed that part of the interview was probably done with a wry smile and a laugh.

The tone doesn't come through in written text.

House's comment is so lame. C'mon man, Sony was dunking on Microsoft for 2 straight years after the Xbox One reveal fiasco. He should laugh it off instead of dropping that lightly-salted comment.

Disclaimer: Competition is good for you, the gamer, it means your voice gets heard and companies push that little bit harder for your money

Coming from Sony who mocked MS through the XB1's unveil? Mic drop? "This is how you share games on PS4?"

Get the fuck out of here. They've been congratulating and giving Sony props for their releases since Spencer took over. A light jab highlighting that their console supports 4k Blu Ray doesn't invalidate any of that.

I mean, he's not wrong.
Yep. I understand what Andrew House meant. I would be amused, too.

After getting steamrolled by the PS4, they got rid of Don Mattrick and played the 'we are all gamers' card. It was all about 'Humble Microsoft'. They congratulated Sony after the launch of their big games (Bloodborne, Uncharted, etc.) and Sony congratulated them (Shu even played Halo). Phil Spencer even mentioned how he hates fanboys and that fanboys aren't real gamers.

Since the 'Project Scorpio' Powerpoint presentation, it looks like we have the 'old Microsoft' back. I guess they think ~1.8TF more means they have a new chance at 'winning'.

Well, I think I know why MS is acting like they do right now. Microsoft's Xbox marketing team seems to be aggressive as hell since Phil Spencer's ban on all 'Erotic Schoolgirl Dancers'. They HAVE to vent somehow. I mean, come on, cut them some slack.

House isn't saying that Sony did not take shots at the competition. They most certainly did. Sony's 2013 press conference was Jack Tretton throwing haymaker after haymaker.

House is pointing at Microsoft's comments from the past year about the "console wars" not being important. He is saying that mindset was short-lived compared to what has been the history of competition between Microsoft and Sony since the Xbox 360.

Andy House is not saying he is not the Pot. He is saying the Kettle is talking like the Pot and Kettle again.

Basically Microsoft was acting like they were above this and the console competition when everyone was saying they were getting their ass kicked and House found it amusing.

The brutal truth. Well put.

I think what he's trying to point out is how "empty" all of that very purposely public back-slapping has been.
