Lmao at the first 3 pages of people coming at Andrew at something he was ASKED ABOUT out of nowhere.

Sony's getting a little too arrogant. You've had a lot of success this generation, don't let it get to your head and fuck things up lol.

Wow, you can clearly tell that either he personally is really bothered by what Microsoft said, or Sony as a whole is, if his comment is anything to go by that is.

Of cause it supports native 4K games, it just depends on the game. Less hardware intensive titles can very well run in 4K.

At least Microsoft didn't blow their load prematurely with hardware that isn't truly ready for 4K gaming.

Pretty much. All is fair in war, and this one, despite its outcome having been known for more than two years, is still raging...
It is normal for MS to fine tune their messaging in light of their position and competitor's decisions, just as it is fair for Sony to raise that inconsistency...and vice-versa! Who cares, really? Do you think that either Phil's or House's words will have any real, tangible impact? Who, outside of enthusiasts' forums, will know about it, and, even if they were to know, why should they care?

Though I agree, look at how big this thread is. Hardcore clearly care. As does the interviewer.

House just exposed Microsoft's "nice-guy, gamer first" attitude as fake, which may (or may not) negatively impact their rep with core gamers (and by extension, their sales).

In other words: he's doing his job.

House isn't saying that Sony did not take shots at the competition. They most certainly did. Sony's 2013 press conference was Jack Tretton throwing haymaker after haymaker.

House is pointing at Microsoft's comments from the past year about the "console wars" not being important. He is saying that mindset was short-lived compared to what has been the history of competition between Microsoft and Sony since the Xbox 360.

Andy House is not saying he is not the Pot. He is saying the Kettle is talking like the Pot and Kettle again.

Basically Microsoft was acting like they were above this and the console competition when everyone was saying they were getting their ass kicked and House found it amusing.

There's no need to explain. Xbox stans will see what they want to see.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Scorpio running some current gen games at native 4k? Sure

But games like the Division, Battlefield and The Witcher 3 etc wont be native 4k

I can't decide who I dislike the most in the industry. House or Cerny. They both have their own style of serial killer vibe.

Has anyone from MS beside Phil Ever said that they're not doing the console War stuff? Either way, pretty stupid comment from House. You'd think an executive from a big company would know better what to respond.

I think he's confusing what Spencer said about his own behavior for MS as a whole. AFAIK, Spencer has stayed true to his word on the matter.

At least Microsoft didn't blow their load prematurely with hardware that isn't truly ready for 4K gaming.

They didn't?

~6TF hardware isn't truly ready for 4K AAA gaming either, PCs are just getting there.
They also announced it over a year in advance lol.

I agree with your overall point, but as for your last question...the hardcore clearly care. As does the interviewer.

Well said.

I dunno. Spencer openly told of his distaste at certain comments made by his staff after the Pro launch.

Hmmm I mean they kinda made multiple comments and also Greenberg pretty often makes those kinds of comments. So Spencer has no control of the people under him? Doesn't really sound believable.

I mean companies and division typically follow in the footsteps of their leader, unless the leader is impotent and has no power to direct the people under him.

Part of me would have loved for Andrew to say something like:

"How many Xbox's have they sold?"

"I'll wait."

Nah, I'm kidding lmao. This is too good though.

This.
And even after the stuff he pulled Penello is back at it as well.

That would've reflected even more poorly on him. It would suggest Microsoft managed to get under his skin DESPITE the massive gap between sales. Like all those millions behind but still within touching distance.

Yep. I understand what Andrew House meant. I would be amused, too.

After getting steamrolled by the PS4, they got rid of Don Mattrick and played the 'we are all gamers' card. It was all about 'Humble Microsoft'. They congratulated Sony after the launch of their big games (Bloodborne, Uncharted, etc.) and Sony congratulated them (Shu even played Halo). Phil Spencer even mentioned how he hates fanboys and that fanboys aren't real gamers.

Since the 'Project Scorpio' Powerpoint presentation, it looks like we have the 'old Microsoft' back. I guess they think ~1.8TF more means they have a new chance at 'winning'.

Well, I think I know why MS is acting like they do right now. Microsoft's Xbox marketing team seems to be aggressive as hell since Phil Spencer's ban on all 'Erotic Schoolgirl Dancers'. They HAVE to vent somehow. I mean, come on, cut them some slack.

^^^ so much truth, I'm guessing no one actually read between the lines of what he said

What holier than thou stance? MS didn't have much to say, so they were fairly quiet. But they aren't mum about their strong suits (EA access, back compat, and now 4K blu-ray).

I'm not referring to touting their features at all. All companies should be doing that.

I'm referring to when they were saying how they disdained all the overly competitive console war stuff when Sony was doing the touting in obvious reference to what Sony was doing.

At least it'll work better, I guess. I agree that Scorpio can't target proper native 4K either. Everything that's happening is just confusing to me. Why even release PS4 Pro and Scorpio with such a focus on 4K? What, exactly, is the purpose of these products?

^The fact that only some people here see this despite it being the absolute truth proves that House handled this question like a pro.

Must be why he earns the big bucks.

Oh definitely lol, it would be extremely low and childish haha but it would be hilarious no less.

Damn House is a little sensitive, like MS screwed up thier momentum with Xbox S and Scorpio making both PS4 Slim/Pro look like poor offerings in comparison. Seems like he's seeing them as a threat now.

The smartest thing MS have done under Phil is offer more options in the Xbox ecosystem and put the onus back on Sony regarding gamer rights. Cross play (dev houses blaming Sony), Mods (dev house blaming Sony),UHD Blu Ray (Sony), BC (Sony), poor network reliability (Sony).

Competition is neutral, the results of competition is what is good or bad.

As far as this it's good on Microsoft to point their strengths and, in turn, emphasize competitor shortcomings. House is right though that the MS we've seen for the past year or so is not the same we've seen recently when they've gotten the leg up.

Did Spencer actually say he was going to make his team not do it? IIRC, he used the word I when saying he wasn't going to feed it any more.

He did say I. If the people underneath him want to engage in console war stuff then that's their business. That's not a reflection of his personal views on the competition and their games. That said, I think there's some poor reading comprehension/shit-stirring going on in this thread. Houses comments don't seem salty at all. He's not wrong and it's not as if he denied Sony doing the same early on in the generation in the same breath either.

u can tell peeps have a lot of pent up resentment towards Sony... xD

Yup. The last week or so has been eye opening.

I think people want to believe that Spencer has some hive-mind control over every single person in the Xbox division.. to the point where they don't have individual and functioning personalities.

I want crossplay between the consoles and PC. Enough of this draconian bullshit.

I am tired of gamers being hurt become they chose a street. There is no reason why we all shouldn't be able to play together. Microsoft and Sony and developers need to sit down together and decide that there should be cross multiplayer features and friends lists communication across the interfaces.

Android and Iphone games speak together. As do Apps. There is no good reason why the console war is kept secular in this manner. It hurts the consumers and it breeds fan fanaticism. And we don't need that in gaming.

keep the competition to price wars, innovation and competitor with games. Eco system wars is petty.

But he's their boss. What he says goes especially for the lowly people on the xbox twitter. I think it's pretty naive to think a boss is going to be entirely against how the product he manages is marketed, yet he's just gonna let the marketing people just "engage" in whatever they want.

Remember MS fired Adam Orth.
