Oculus' Palmer Luckey funds white-supremacist/misogynistic/anti-lgbt harassment group

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Why would you see a piece of evidence and immediately assume that it is the only piece of evidence unless you were strongly inclined to defend the person or the positions he or she holds?
Michael, that wasn't a trick...

.... It was an illusion!

He is finished though.
He certainly won't be able to show his face at dev conferences or game/tech shows anymore.
Oculus connect next month should certainly be interesting.

In hindsight, I regret backing the Oculus Kickstarter. I feel awful for other Oculus employees and the devs that work closely with them, because it's going to be difficult to separate their work from this mess.

What does Nimble even mean in this context? Is this some alt right code word I'm not aware of?

If I'm not mistaken, due to the meme/Internet based culture ideology behind the platform I think it's in reference to their embracing of "new" advertising strategies (memes, message boards, etc) in comparison to more standard advertising (TV, radio, etc.) Nimble = quick, unlike the slow versions of old advertising ("how do you do fellow kids?")

I could be wrong but that was my interpretation of it.

Thankfully he sold Oculus and when he's hoofed out of his mouthpiece role, everything will go back to normal.

Hey i might be "off-topic", but i'm a outsider ( Canada-french )

And why the media and like USA "online" in general let's these trolls trolling without almost saying nothing ?

For media i'm talking about the Trump surrogate, they let them talk and trolling without interruption ( Like they ask a question, they divert and troll ( litteraly trolling, lying to make a fake point of view ) and the animator often dont stop them. Why ?

The only anchor, i see start to "fight back" is Don Lemon ( he is hate maybe online ). But he started to cut mic and fact check them live on tv.

And online, why people let the Trump troll trolling that much? Like, they seem to don't have counter-attacker.

It look like the new South Park where i notable troll ( wont spoiled ) troll people, and people just go depress and quit ( except maybe a certain country lol ).

But just why ? lol, i go on reddit and not shy to fight off troll with my bad english. They "fight" back with grammar jokes but i dont care because i see them that they can't process/communicate/counter-argument when you expose their bullcrap. ( and reddit is more and more trolling btw, from my point of view ).

It's the first time i see a "Political Trolling mouvement" and i find it weird that nobody try to fight it.

I wish Bernie had won, so the "bernie bros" would fight back ( lol, they were good sjw-memers )

But it's very weird to see people let them lies publicly and do nothing. Even if only 2% believe their lies, it's too much.

Anyway, it was my rant xD

Unforunately, I predict there will be people. Granted it won't be packed, but there will be people because there are certainly those who support his ideals that exist. Though NImble America sounds like a scam no matter how you look at it.

I find it amusing that his girlfriend quit twitter given that she had posted something along the lines of how people like Zoe Quinn just needed to grow thicker skin. I saw that and I thought... well I'm not going to feel too bad about the harassment she gets. I hope she understands now that 'growing thicker skin' is an absurd thing to say to people suffering the wrath of the online hate mob.

So we should expect a statement within the next 40 mins right if we assume their business day ends at 5pm
PST?

Even Fox News will fact check their guests, not always but a fair amount of the time. The reason they don't just interrupt people is because that is terrible TV and it's also not the way to win a debate. Talking over people instead of letting them make their point and coming back at them just means everyone is talking over everyone and no one is heard so the decorum is to let someone make a point and then interject your own point.

People will interrupt occasionally but it's generally not the correct way to speak to a person on TV and in life.

I'd say a lot of it has to do with ratings, some people enjoy Trump being...Trump. But at the same time I can kind of see it as being ammo for Clinton, it just keeps building and building, she'll have so much shit to throw at him during the debate, which is why Trump doesn't want any moderators there lol. He's going to get shit on on live TV after all this time (hopefully).

Give me a break. There are thousands of people with livelihoods going to Oculus Connect because it's their job to. Now every single one of the attendees is part of the alt-right? Luckey is a douche, but you guys are starting to lose your minds.

Ok look.

The Oculus itself is a piece of technology, and while Palmer may have been it's visionary, he's no longer in the direct controlling role at the company. Depending on whether or not he's still at Facebook/Oculus when this event rolls around, determines how much "supporting the Oculus" is by proxy supporting Palmer.

Why do you regret it? He's a kid with shitty influences. Oculus itself is amazing technology brought together by a group of people dedicated to it.

While FB should distance themselves, throwing away everything Oculus has done because of this kid's shitty misconception and closed-minded view of the world is just as clise-minded.

Carmack is Oculus too, is he a racist?

He's a conservative so probably

Well, if we let some people said : The earth is flat.

It's not good for the whole society, because 1-2% will believe their lies. And bring down the bunch.

Here in canada, you can't do public hate speech, in USA it's look like it's ok. Because of "free speech" i think ?

for awhile i've felt like the guy wasn't a good fit for what oculus is now and he was kind of on his way out anyway. hopefully this just expedites things. i know its fashionable to shit on oculus atm but i'd hate to see the whole thing blow up over some looney tunes kid with money

And what are those ideas, do tell?

Being brown and wanting to pray

Basically the two most common factors in deciding whether a human becomes a muslim or not, it's not a conscious decision to follow a doctrine (for the vast majority)

But hating those peopel for their "ideas" isn't racist, right? kek

Given the amount of silent gamergaters in AAA, and FB's definite inaction (Peter Thiel on the board at FB) I don't think a lot is really going to come out of this.

I wish, i'm afraid that he win the crowd/public with a joke/bitching well place. But true, Clinton have so much stuff against him. But he is "good" at trolling improv.

Islam is not a race.

It is a religious ideology. It is a set of ideas.

Islamophobia is often racist. When people talk about keeping muslims out of the country, or thoroughly vetting them, they're usually just thinking of arabic people in general. There's plenty of white and asian muslims, but unless they're wearing traditional islamic garb, I really doubt anyone will treat them poorly. To a lot of people muslim=arabic—despite that being completely incorrect. So if you even look arabic, a lot of people assume that you're muslim.

Sorry, I edited my post out. While I am absolutely disgusted by Palmers rhetoric and actions I don't think boycotting Oculus is the right thing to do. He is a miniscule part of what the company is now.

I do hope FB takes action.

Again, between Peter Thiel and FB's alleged censorship of conservatives on Facebook News there won't be much they do other than distance themselves.

Palmer's definitely getting fired, I bet the Facebook lawyers are just poring over his contracts to go over their legal requirements for options, bonus payments, etc. I would be really surprised if its not announced tomorrow. Many rich CxO types fund crazy right wing or hate groups but all of them put in enough "buffers" between them to easily deny it, its insane how Palmer just straight up is basically "bring it on, bros!"

Its highly unlikely but I wonder if Oculus will offer refunds to people who bought a Rift and find his statements offensive. I would love to return my Rift, but I got in on the kickstarter wave so can't really find fault for spending $300 and getting 4+ years of hardware and two complete hardware kits and a bunch of software.

Can't believe there hasn't been a statement from FB or Palmer.

You'd think they would have PR guys surrounding them 24/7

Why are people worried about Oculus being boycotted? At this point there has been enough missteps since release and better alternatives that Oculus hasn't been the answer for some time. This can be the final straw for people. It's certainly mine.

People are absolutely free to not purchase anything for whatever reason. If Palmer isn't let go, I'm certainly not interested in giving my money towards a company founded and spearheaded by a white supremacist.

They do, and I'm sure they've told them all to keep quiet until FB and their lawyers etc have (1) decided on an initial course of action re PL, and (2) decided on the PR damage-limitation strategy. (Used to work in PR)

It's mainly free speech. In the US, even hate speech, as terrible as it is, is generally protected as free speech. Also the internet isn't regulated. The closest thing to speech regulation in broadcast is the FCC but the fairness doctrine doesn't exist anymore so generally that's why Trump's surrogates can spout bullshit lies on TV. That and the FCC can't regulate cable TV content/news.
