Jurassic World 2: More animatronics, scarier story, 'not about militarized dinosaurs'

Glad to hear it. I'd like to see more portrayals of the dinosaurs as animals and not just monsters. Jurassic World was this weird mix of both. You had the raptors with (well, underdeveloped) differences and personalities, but it was still improved treatment. The I-Rex is basically doing this because it's crazed from living in captivity and doesn't really realize what it's capable of yet.

On the other hand, the pterosaurs were bloodthirsty monsters and the I-Rex, still, was a monster, even if it had a decent motivation for being one.

"Scarier" made me think they'd have the carnotaurus cloaking scene, but they already wasted that in Jurassic World. I liked that scene and wish they made more use of its ability to camouflage.

Man I didn't realize so many people hated Jurassic World

It got pretty good reviews and everyone I know dug it. It was loud and dumb but a ton of fun.

It's far and away the most enjoyable Jurassic Park sequel. I pretty much got what I was expecting out of it and I hope the follow up is as much fun.

Kind of surprised by the militarized dinosaurs hate. It might not be the most genius premise, but it sounds more appealing and ambitious to me than: "Dinosaurs Eating Innocent/Stupid People on an Isolated Island Part 5".

The mention of preserving Winston's dinosaur aesthetic seems pretty funny to me considering the designs of the new creatures in Jurassic World were terrible and didn't fit the aesthetic at all. The Indominus, Dimorphodon, and the Mosasaur all look more like video game monsters, and the Pteranodon and the Apatosaurus were akin to muppets. The other plant eaters were all drab gray CGI lumps to fill up space. The poor Velociraptors didn't even make it out unscathed, fatter in the face, rubbery, and covered in warts. Bah. Was Crash McCreery really the artist behind their designs?

Jurassic parks effects dont hold up at all

I liked Jurassic world and now that I know the direction I didn't want isn't going to happen my hype level has risen.

I can breathe a sigh of relief knowing militarized dinosaurs are not going to be the primary plot moving forward. It sounds like remnants of that story may remain, but mainly as a macguffin to drive one aspect of the story forward.

I'm definitely pumped to hear about more animatronics this time.. plus I'm interested to see what they can do with motion capture on real animals!

Finally, a scarier and more intimate film in Bayonas hands sounds like the perfect Jurassic Park movie. Now just give me one feathered species of dinosaur and I'll basically have my wishlist fulfilled.

ALL of those things sound awesome and make me excited for JW2. Bring it! Went to a lecture with Jack Horner recently, he mentioned they left out a Stegaceratops from the final cut. Wonder if they'll feature it in the new one...

I really don't understand how JW was a misogynistic pos. So they had her wear dumb heels throughout the movie. But she ran the place and survived like a boss... in heels.

I want a clay model stop motion Chris Pratt.
YUSSSS

Militarization was naturally the next obstacle to hit after InGen's stunt in trying to control dinos in JP: TLW. Plus, it's so what power hungry humans would do in this day and age if we could.

I need to know if the parents saved their marriage.
Same, this was my biggest gripe with JW. :(

jk!

Did he go into anymore detail about the Stegoceratops? From y understanding the scene involved a juvenile, but it's next to impossible to find out anything directly.

I'll be curious to see if Horner end up involved with JW2 or not.

The new IDW comic launches early next year right? I wonder if it'll serve as a bridge between movies or it'll just be its own thing. The pitch TristaIn Jones did for a prequel JW comic was awesome, too bad IDW didn't have faith in the franchise, they should've lost the license like Hasbro did. The first comics being bad were their fault after all.

I actually ended up liking Jurassic World over The Force Awakens. Both were essentially remakes of the originals but I felt JW was more entertaining and had more new twists added to it that felt additive to the franchise.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
They were the reason the dinosaur effects in Jurassic Park still hold up today.

Bullshit. The animatronic parts look lifeless compared to the CGI.

-"We're actually looking at paleoart this time when designing the dinosaurs."

-"Will there be feathers?"

-"¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

Oh Colin.

There's nothing wrong with what he said, though. JW already addressed the issue, but people are conveniently overlooking the in-universe reason they gave. Depending on how they introduce dinos in JW2, you may or may not see feathers. And since most of the dinosaurs that were introduced were literally created in labs, it would be odd to see them with feathers. But they could probably explain/handwave that with evolution, or "life finds a way."

It's not wrong, but don't bother.

It's clear as day that they're considering feathered animals for the sequel, but he's unsure if it'll happen and therefore isn't committing to it. He certainly didn't dismiss it at all. It's all on ILM and Legacy Effects to cook up some good designs to sell Bayona, Trevorrow and Spielberg on the concept.

And from my understanding, it was Spielberg who felt strongly against feathers in JW.

Yes I think JW2 should have feathered animals, and wish JW had them also. But I think it's silly to pretend like it's it's Trevorrow who's rallying to keep them out of the franchise.

The success of others absolutely infuriates me.
I just want my giant land hawks, man. Been watching a lot of paleobiology youtube stuff and it's incredible that there's so much majesty completely untapped.

Some raptors could've potentially scaled vertical walls with their wings. The chase scene writes itself!

Colin Trevorrow: public GAF enemy no. 1

A lot more was also done with the dinosaurs in JW than JP. But I realize we don't give a shit about context as long as we can be super negative toward something new.

There is no context. With 'something new' are you referring to CGI? Huh.

The only thing 'new' here is that, like Star Wars, they are recognizing the appreciation (and sometimes need) for real practical effects despite the budgetary increase that that brings.

"Let's escape to these mountains, it's too cold up there and they couldn't possibly climb all the way up!"

While the protagonists start to climb something watches them from a nearby cliff:

i think there's only so much you can do with jurassic park, barring lame twists like "dinosaurs... IN SPACE" or whatever

world was fine but it just felt... there. like oh that's cool but i've seen this movie before.

I like animatronics. I just hope the writing will be better... who am I kidding? It's going to somehow manage to be even worse.

Kids who saw Jurassic World will be threes years older by JW2. A jump from 9 years old to 12 is huge. It's about making the story grow up for them, and it's why he's bringing in a Spanish horror director.

Jurassic World and the Chamber of Secrets... wait, shouldn't he direct the third film?

If you were making the movie for 9yos I can see why the movie sucked for anyone with a fully developed brain.
