intrusive PC store fronts and playing elsewhere

Out of curiousity, does anyone who plays on PC choose to play an inferior version on consoles due to the implementation of uplay and origins?

I have come round to the idea of Origin since they have improved a lot in recent times, but I find myself buying Ubisoft games on consoles because uplay is terribly implemented when I've had the misfortune of using it.

No. I play games, I don't play a store. I've got no problems with using either Origin, W10 Store, Steam, Battle.net, GoG or Uplay.

I'd rather deal with uPlay than 30fps, so no. I do wish they'd stop forcing me to use it even when I buy the game from Steam, though.

UPlay is ok these days I think, at least in my opinion. Only played The Division and Assassin's Creed Syndicate lately and there was nothing really wrong at all as far as I can remember.

My prior experience with it was indeed horrible, which includes not letting me launch Valiant Heart, and corrupt my savefile for Assassin's Creed Unity.

i bought Watch Dogs on PS4 because i couldn't be bothered having yet another client installed on my PC. steam/battle.net is enough for me. at a push i'll install origin but that's it.

While slightly inconvenient, either store offers the game in an ultimately better version than on console so... that's a pretty weird thing to do.
Mind you, I only have Steam booting up with my PC since I use the other storefronts so rarely that there is no point in having them constantly updated and on hand.

Only store where I would agree is Windows 10 Store because it's such a mess and hassle to get simple stuff done. But then again, most upcoming games are Play Anywhere so you can try your luck on PC or else fall back to console without any hassle.

Uplay has been a system hog for me in the past - an really, why is it even needed if I purchase through steam already?

I mean, the experience is much less shitty now. You even get free games that are sometimes better than the paid "free" rentals you get on consoles for paying to use your internet connection. And you still generally get the better experience and price on the open platform to boot.

There is nothing wrong with uPlay or Origin. They even do some things better than Steam. Zero issues using them and no I'm not playing a inferior game just to avoid a launch program.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what is the problem with Uplay?

I've been using it alongside Steam, Origin and Battlenet and it seems... just fine?

Same. Gaming will all be app based eventually so might as well get used to it.

I use all of them and I have no issue with any store because frankly speaking even Steam is garbage for the most part. Also I can't really say that PS4's store is any better than any of PC stores so I can't understand why you would prefer a console version of a game anyway.

A game has to be heavily discounted (under £5) for me to buy from Origin/Uplay/Windows Store...etc. Otherwise I just stick to Steam and GOG.

Uplay used to be aboslutely terrible. Plenty of reasons to be burned using it.

It is ok to use now but Ubi took a long time to get things in order. They also used to have plenty of terrible DRM schemes. Out of the big 3 console publishers they still have the worst PC infrastructure imo.

I bought ME3 for my PS3 back then when i did not want to have any relation with Origin.
I also bought Diablo 3 for the same system because i want to have an offline option.
Nothing was missed.

The only issue I've ever had is Origin always wanting to update, other than that Uplay & Origin are grand.

PC is only GOG or Steam for me. Never tried the other stores coz never had the need to. All the games I want to play on PC are available on GOG or Steam.

Apart from W10 store, I don't really have an issue trying other stores. As long as I can install mods and customise controls, I'm good. Consoles are always the last resort due to lack of customisation.

No, and in the case of Uplay and Origin, one is rather unobtrusive these days and the other seems very light on resources. The Windows store I avoid.

Uplay was fixed in the September 2015 update. I did actively buy all my Ubisoft games on consoles before that, but now I love my higher frame rates.

The only problem now is that I'm trying to catch AC Syndicate season pass on sale, but it's never on sale.

The only place I actively avoid is Windows 10 store, and that isn't because of not wanting another store, but the UWP app format.

Never installed Origin on my PC, but I (rarely) buy EA titles from time to time on consoles.

I'm ok with most stores though getting things on steam is definetly my preference.

The Win 10 store is the only one i won't touch.

Uplay made me stop playing Blood Dragon a few years ago. What a pile of shit.
Launching your separate shitheap client on top of steam should be considered a criminal offense.

For you.
EA fucked up Origin after the latest update.

I remember when I literally couldn't play Splinter Cell Conviction for three months because Uplay would always fuck up.

I am ambivalent about other clients, but I will try them out so long as I can launch the games through Steam without any faffing, and the client disappears and doesn't annoy me. This is pretty much essential for me as I use Steam Big Picture on my PC.

I've managed to get UPlay and Origin games to run from Steam, so I'm okay using them if necessary. Running UWP games through Steam is pretty much impossible, so I don't buy games from the W10 Store.

I did have an Xbox One to pick up the slack on UWP games, but I realised that none of the Xbox One exclusives weren't doing anything for me, so I sold the system. So I don't really think I'm missing much in regards to UWP not working on my PC. But in the very unlikely case that I can't add the game as a non-Steam game, I would definitely get it on PS4 instead.

I only don't like that Windows Store.
Uplay is great, it really is imrpoved since it's launch. Origin was OK but after last update I hate it's layout.
Steam could use some update because I think it is a little archaic.

Why on earth would I want to do something as nonsensically ridiculous as that?

I was going to agree with this then I remembered I'm doing exactly this with Forza Horizon 3 at the moment by playing on my Xbox One to avoid the windows store and its shitty UWP initiative.

For the Windows store I deem this practice to be valid. Anything else? No.

Uplay almost made me stop playing Splinter Cell Blacklist with some ridiculous patch times some years ago. Thankfully it's been smooth sailing with Rainbow Six Siege, rather invisible.

I don't really understand this approach.

To me, a console is inherently more intrusive and restrictive than anything on PC (with the potential infamous exception of encrypted UWP -- in a way it's impressive to fuck up that much).

I mean, I haven't played anything on Uplay since Might & Magic X, but when I did I still had full control over my input devices, output resolution, rendering, framerate, and save files. And I could use most any 3rd party tool with it, including my own. Same for Origin or any other publisher-specific PC client.

If it is a solid store page, I don't mind using it.

Due to GFWL I will never use a Windows store willingly. I had tons of problems with Uplay so I avoid all Ubi games on PC.

The only store I try and avoid is the Windows one, uPlay and Origin are both fine, no issues with using them.

I use all the stores depending on price and ease of use and access.

Most of my games are on steam, cause it's almost like a monopoly on the platform and I usually purchase games for it because I already have tons of games, friends and it's easy to use in that regard.

uPlay & origin is only used for exclusives to the store or if a game I want is like 50% cheaper than the other options.

As for Windows store I hate the limitations and whatnot but I will buy the games that comes to it that I want (play anywhere) because I don't mind the store itself that much and rather not wait 6+ months for a potential release on another platform.

Battle.net is my rotation of the occasional Blizz games.

GOG Galaxy is just here for most older games in my case, quite ok to use as well.

So really, it all depends, but the console versions I find hard to navigate and use. Quite honestly I hardly use my consoles and would probably do fine without. 30fps games I avoid.

That's it. I don't have any problems, and if I have, then I simply turn the clients ingame overlay off. Though that doesn't mean, I like the W10 store... but still I did not have many problems that'd disturb my gaming experience.

Origin and Uplay are fine now. They had problems for a while but now they work pretty well. Sure, it's a bit annoying to launch a different client for certain games, but still much better than having to buy expensive proprietary hardware to do the same thing. Windows Store is total garbage at the moment but if MS updated it enough to match the competition I'd have no problem using it (I doubt they'll drop the UWP bullshit though).

Apart from WinStore, no store front on PC is as restrictive as a console. Not even close.

For games that are console and/or windows store exclusive, I simply don't play them.

UPlay and Origin don't bother me at all. Uplay improved a lot in recent years, and now when used along Steam it's almost invisible. The only store that I will not buy any game whatsoever is the Windows Store.

I'm mostly a Steam user, but am open to buy from GOG if they had friendlier regional pricing.

I tolerate Battle.net as far as running my hard copy Blizzard games, it's less of a storefront and more of a DRM wrapper.

I gave UPlay a try via Ubisoft's Ubi30 promotion, and it just feels... not bad, per se, but clunky.

Origin... not even once. Any EA game purchases I make (which is not too often) are on PS4.

Edit: I forgot about the Windows 10 Store... as I should.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
I've got no problem with having other platforms as long as they work fine. Hell I actually think Origin runs better than Steam.
Uplay was awful for me when I play trials, not the most recent, the one before that (i think). Took me many app restarts to get it all to recognise I now had the game and actually boot up. Though I guess it's better these days.
