Media Create Sales: Week 41, 2016 (Oct 10 - Oct 16)

Dang, i was guessing 50k-60k LTD for PSVR o_O If we hadnt gotten that number, i would have guessed around 10k based on what Playstation VR Worlds sold.

Yeah, the retail software sales are really low. I guess providing a lot of demos has backfired a bit there.

Decent first week for PSVR. Did Summer Lesson not get a physical release? Expected that to be up there lol

Those numbers for PSVR probably represent most of the shipment.
It was sold out (almost?) everywhere a few minutes after the stores opened. Same with online stores. Maybe you can get it in the countryside, but in Tokyo it's impossible if you don't want to use resellers (85k+ versus 53k MSRP for the camera set).

I asked in a few stores and the next shipment date is "unknown".

So with this weeks numbers the PS4 is probably save from dipping below the 30k mark till like februari next year, no?

Also I don't think you can extrapolate the PSVR numbers to WW sales. 50k first week is pretty alright tho.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I never realized Sticker Star was the best selling Paper Mario game in Japan huh.

Color Splash debut is absolutely dreadful, at this point the Wii U is completely dead, is there any notable stuff coming to it besides Zelda ?

Good hold for MHS, might reach a "respectable" number in the end due to the holidays.

Okay debut for PSVR, totally going to outsell MHS guys!

The real question is if there's ANYTHING coming to the platform besides Zelda, let alone anything "notable". And I feel the correct answer is no, for now (well, Japanese versions of Skylanders/ JD and Darksiders haven't been announced yet!).

Yeah, Paper Mario: Color Splash's debut is truly horrible. Nintendo did a damn fine job at killing the Wii U this year, and they did it: even if we consider Sticker Star's reception and its possible influence for Color Splash, sales this low can be attributed mainly to a complete lack of interest for the platform, even from the owners themselves. Minecraft seems to be the only game still holding due to its status.

True. It didn't have a much higer installbase, but it definitely had a much more active userbase.

The problem of the Wii U is that it's pretty much become a Splatoon / Minecraft machine. There hasn't been a single retail release since Minecraft in June (well, there was Terraria in September... and it seemed to have sold as well as Yakuza 1 + 2 HD, while eShop sales seem pretty decent).

There may be 3m Wii U in the wild in Japan, but it's pretty clear that there isn't 3 million active players looking for new games to play on their Wii U. Those who are still using it seem pretty content with Splatoon and Minecraft. The rest either don't care and/or have sold it long ago.

Suck to say, but I am glad Paper Mario bombed. It's a beautiful game of course, but the mechanics need to seriously change or go back to its roots.

I can and I did. PSVR has only sold through to 1.53% of the PS4 base in Japan. The thing was sold out in 10 minutes.
Yep, you did and it still doesn't make any sense.

And yes, they sold what they had in stock = ~50k

Next task for you: Compare the PSVR sales with the iPhones sales numbers in japan.
I mean, you can play games on the iPhone, too. So let's go.

Yep

PSVR sold out everywhere, with stores in Akihabara trying to flip them for more than 50% over RRP. Many large stores didn't get any stock in the first place. I will probably end up buying one on impulse but my only chance was to line up on release day for several hours.

Tfw PSVR might have outsold XB1 on 1st week if it wasn't sold out everywhere

Edit: I think Harada mentioned Summer Lesson is digital only?

What is Japan using PSVR for? Those game sales are non-existent.

Demo disc.

Hmm... Minecraft: Wii U Edition has topped 150k at retail. I remember not expecting much of this version when it first launched, ha!

07./07. [WIU] Minecraft: Wii U Edition <ADV> (Microsoft Game Studios) {2016.06.23} (¥3.600) - 6.472 / 151.101 (-5%)

As for KIrby, topped 450k since launch... definitely going to end up in the 500-550k range.

14./12. [3DS] Kirby: Planet Robobot <ACT> (Nintendo) {2016.04.28} (¥4.700) - 4.504 / 453.580 (-9%)

Famitsu shows Xbox One price cut was effective, nearly 900 consoles sold.

I believe its the first time its outsold the PS3 since launch.

Paper Mario sold way more even on Gamecube that really didn't have that much higher installbase.

I made this point before, but it was pointed out looking at wii u games in 2016 vs GC games in 2004 shows the difference in active install base.

At the same time, I do believe mario RPGs have been damaged a bit as of late, considering Paper Jam as well. I guess if the next mario RPG looks similar to CS or PJ and performs poorly, we'll get a better idea.

Seems like the thirst is real in regards to PSVR in Japan. That's like the first few months of Oculus CV1 global sales scooped up in one day (and this merely one region the PSVR launched in last week).

Those are fine points. Still nevertheless even considering the situation of WiiU that is big bomba. Not even a sixth of opening week of previous Paper Mario so there is definitely something wrong with the appeal of the game too.

Nice hold for MHS, we'll see what happens next week!

Lol, the real winner this week:

13./15. [3DS] Super Battle For Money Sentouchuu: Kyuukyoku no Shinobu to Battle Player Choujou Kessen! <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.09.15} (¥5.300) - 4.816 / 23.645 (+29%)

Paper Jam and Sticker Star damaged the series to me. Bring back a real Paper Mario or a sequel to Super Mario RPG.

If PS VR sold more than 50K in Japan with so little software presence at retail, I wonder how it did in the UK. Here is the UK charts for comparison. Note that one of the most popular VR games (Batman Arkham VR) is missing from retail there.

#10 PlayStation VR Worlds
#11 Until Dawn : Rush of Blood
#14 RIGS
#17 EVE Valkyrie
# 20 Driveclub VR
# 26 Battlezone
# 36 Loading Human
# 37 Super Stardust Delta VR

On the Wii U (and in 2016 to boot)?

By the way, PMCS has... ok people, I need you to act all surprised and stuff here... the worst debut for a PM game ever, and by a large margin.

Honestly not sure it'll even manage to reach FW sales of Paper Mario on N64... A damn shame, but that's something you get used to with Wii U games.

Shame considering Colour Splash is supposedly a big step up from trash like Sticker Star. Tho I wouldn't know because I'm part of the problem. If Nintendo has half a brain they will give the game a second chance as NX launch title.

Nintendo 3DS - Road to 22 millions

LTD Sales: 21 299 550 units
Units left to 2m = 700 450 units
Weeks left = 11 weeks.
Needs = 63 677 units / week.

If sales don't drop too hard before Pokémon Sun and Moon launches, it should be somewhat doable. January 2017 at the latest, at least.

Do we even have confirmation that PSVR was sold out within 10 minutes in Japan? That's pretty crazy if true. Regardless, 51K seems decent.

Also, what's with the huge discrepancy of XB1 figures between MC and Famitsu?
