Behold Nintendo Switch (March 2017, Hybrid w/ Dock, Detachable Controllers, Nvidia)

So trying to play Skyrim, Zelda on the go/mobile would and should give you a 3 hour battery life.

Playing hand-held type games should give you hand-held/tablet battery life.

If you were to take your PS4/XB1 out of the house it would be clumsy and near impossible. You need the console, brick, controllers, TV/Monitor, outlet, etc.And not to mention some suitcase type custom carrying case to lug it around in.

This with just an AC adapter solves all. Earbuds which everyone already has, the controllers built in/stored, local play type software built-in and good to go.

You couldn't do a 360/PS3/XB1/PS4 on a plane, in a mall, on a bus/train, in a car, etc. as easy as the switch setup.

This is not replacing 3DS or next hand-held system.

So the switch is a home console with mobile ability not a mobile with console ability.
Sorry but this will moist definitely be there next handheld. One system, one set of games that work an everything, no splitting the games up. It completely makes sense especially with the popularity of tablets.

Stupid question incoming. Pretty tough keeping up with this thread.

Can we expect an AC adaptor to be included with this or, at least, made available for purchase? Obviously, the dock will charge the unit, but while it does so you can only play on the TV. When I game on handhelds, I only play at home and stay plugged in at all times. If my wife wants to watch TV and I want to play Switch, I'd like to be able to play on the handheld unit for as long as I want. From what I've been reading, the battery life doesn't sound like it's going to be very good.

By AC Adapter you mean micro USB port+cable that can charge the device like any modern phone and tablet uses? Hopefully yes. If Nintendo is going to keep those AC adapters from their handhelds in this day and age than they're insane.

I'm really freaking hoping Nintendo supports Bluetooth headsets.

The only device i still use that supports wired headphones is my 3DS.

I'd love to use my LG Tone's with Switch.

Ya, I'd agree that the marketing was the biggest factor in WiiU being a huge failure. It's just strange to me that they're sticking so heavily to the main features of the WiiU instead of going for something drastically different to differentiate itself.

I don't know that you can really do that much different with a gaming console other than making it something else entirely. Now VR is hitting which some see as the next step but Nintendo isn't interested as of now. I don't think the Wii U in concept was a bad idea, and here they're basically doing a much better job at selling people on something with a similar basic concept but with far better functionality. Like for example you could take the game pad and play games but only for a certain space.

Anyone notice this? There seems to be more triggers on the inside of the slidy part of the Joy-Con!

I don't think it's been confirmed either way. I really hope they actually go for a standard micro USB port for charging the portable, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a proprietary cable.

Thanks for the replies. I figured nothing was confirmed yet. Really hope Nintendo includes one or makes them available at retail. I think they would be crazy not too.

Looks about the size of a Amazon Firestick remote, which I have held in this orientation for clarity, and it seems potentially comfortable enough? The trigger on the back could act like a Wiimote B button I suppose

Because of the emphasis on "home console" status, I expect Nintendo to announce a lower-powered, dedicated handheld device that can play scaled-down versions of the same software with longer battery life. But we'll see how feasible that idea is in time....I could be way off base.

Are we expecting games like the next SMT to be more ambitious and 3D battles?

and are we expecting less games with terrible chibi artstyles(I read long ago that chibi artstyle due to specs limitations and low res) ?

Bigger games and JRPG goodness with an actual appealing art style might make me consider buying it even if it doesn't have Bayonetta 3.

A number of years down the road I could see Nintendo releasing a smaller, cheaper portable only version of the system, and a tv only version without the screen ala PSTV. But I don't see this happening for at least a few years. For the foreseeable future the marketing has to be focused on the hybrid aspect of the system.

God I hope they go USB-C

I've warmed to the NX over the last 24 hours. I'm not in love with it but it's okay, and after skipping the Wii U I'm looking forward to getting back to some top Nintendo games. My Mrs quite likes it too surprisingly, and both our little nieces are getting one too!

My main concern though is the native resolution for docked TV play. I hope it's 900p minimum and preferably native 1080p across the board. With the Tegra chip boosting it's clocks while docked to make it happen.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Yes this has been pointed out and can clearly be seen in the reveal video when the two girls are playing on the rooftop. They're absolutely triggers.

Didn't know we had a clearer picture of those triggers. Well well well, I hope they are confortable to use indeed.

Now that I think about it, this means that, when you use the JoyCon L and R in the Wiimote / Nunchuk setup, you can potentially have a shitload of buttons, lol.

You know, looking at the shape of that thing I would actually say that is not the inner side of the Joycon, but the outer side of it that we see even if its connected. Just look at the round angles on the sides.

And I'm not sure at all that I se triggers there, but could be.

If Switch gets proper versions of FIFA/PES/NBA2K/Madden I can see this being very successful.

I'd wager that most regular sport gamers have dreamed about being able to continue their league on the bus to work and once home, continue playing on the tv.

I hope Nintendo is pushing these companies to not half-arse it.

The amount of ingenuity in this design is such classic Nintendo. Clever, inexpensive solutions to solve real design problems. Exact opposite approach of Wii U.

It has to be the inner edge otherwise the stick would be flipped.

So what I want to know:

Will the Switch allow me to play digital versions of WiiU games which do not get a full-fledged port (not just Mario Kart and Splatoon).

In other words, if I do not own a WiiU, can I play its games without buying one?

highly unlikely since it doesn't look like you can play on the tv and tablet at the same time. So some games would need some major tweaking to work, though obviously not all.

One interesting point about Switch is that 3rd party ports will have an additional incentive to be bought on it. They will not be the best looking out of all, but you can play them anywhere you want.

Think of all the online MP games that you can't pause or just shortly pause when you need to go to the toilet. Now you don't need to ruin your bladder and health anymore.

The way you hold the Joy-Cons when separated from the system mean it is the inner side.

I'd imagine the most plausible scenario will be 720p output on the handheld and 1080p whilst docked.

The framebuffers of individual games will vary, I'm sure we'll get lot's of native 1080p games, and likely 900p, dynamic resolution etc third party games.

But in terms of output, it will be 1080p, the same way the Xbox One S outputs at 4k, and games have their own framebuffers e.g battlefield at 900p etc

Although Nintendo have some surprises right? What if it's like an Xbox One S and outputs 4k lol. Yes games won't be native 4k but so what, it's a positive enough feature on the Xbox One s.

Black Ops 2 on the Wii U was fantastic.

Shield TV can output in 4k HDR, so it should be possible.

I used to think it was a shame that Nintendo didn't feature the SNES coloured buttons on the controller/slate, or a similar flourish.

But now I get it.

This isn't Nintendo looking back at past successes or banking on nostalgia.

This console is all about Nintendo moving on and looking forward.

Haven't read anything what type of 720p screen it is. But I hope they will go OLED. It's not that expensive, as some would expect. Vita had OLED at the lunch price (and I believe Sony sold it at a profit out the gate) and I have two Dell Tablets that have OLED screens. Didn't pay much for them either.

I think the art direction with Nintendo Franchises...with their smooth framerate would look amazing on it!

But kids would be the main audience they'd cater to, so probably not... but I still hope so!

Worse case scenario, could just hook up dock to a OLED TV.

One thing I was thinking about was the inevitable amiibo-crossover-platformer game a lot of people anticipated for the WiiU; do we expect something like that for launch? Something similar to LEGO Dimensions or Skylanders.

I'm of the belief they have missed the boat on something like that, but at the same time, there's no way they haven't been developing a game like that.

Absolutely. This is actually a very momentous occasion. This is Nintendo attempting to reenter the mainstream after having left it since the Playstation was released.

The N64->GameCube->Wii era was them attempting to do it on their own, third-parties be damned. The Switch is their attempt to being everyone else back with a very appealing product that allows other developers to being what they are already doing and want to do to a Nintendo console.

Wish I had one NOW

Me too. I hate that it's being released in March.

I'd have loved it to be released this year. I'd be fine with waiting until March for certain games, I'd have happily picked one up with Mario Kart switch and Splatoon.

I wonder what's caused them to wait until March, waiting to launch with more games, hardware production not ready, or something else?
