As a Wii U owner I feel betrayed by Nintendo. Am I the only one?

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
The Wii U is only 4 years old but won't receive any more support by Nintendo (except for Zelda that should have been released many time ago).
In addition many Wii U games will have enhanced ports on the Switch. Enhancements that I'll probably never have on my Wii U games.
So I feel a bit like I've been a beta tester for the Nintendo Switch all along. Am I the only one?

P.S. sorry for the bad english

I'm not. The Wii U has given me a lot of great games and I still have a lot to play. I feel my inversion has been returned greatly.

come on. they already gave a great support for the system, even though it was clear it wouldn't take off at all.
I'm a WiiU owner too, and I'm happy they go for something else.

N64 owners felt the same thing when the Dolphin was announced.
Gamecube owners felt the same thing when the Revolution was announced.
Wii owners... well, I don't think they minded when Project Cafe was announced. People really wanted a "Wii HD" back then.

It's part and parcel of owning a Nintendo console, OP. Enjoy your Wii U. Just because a new system is coming out doesn't mean you can't still enjoy the many great games that did come out for it.

Betrayed? Yeah, nah.

I've had a Wii U since day one, I celebrate its death. The enjoyment I've got from Splatoon and Mario Kart isn't diminished with Switch ports.

Yes you are, we aren't entitled to enhancements of ports, we got what we paid for and it's not being stolen from us. Ports are a thing that happen all the time.

As for the 4 years, personally I'm ready to move on, I was sick of the Wii/360/PS3 generation lasting for so long. 4 years is enough for me, time for a fresh start, and I'm ready for Nintendo to go crazy on the Switch with the handheld and console divisions.

No, love my U but it's time to move on. To be honest I wouldn't even release Zelda on it, use the full power of the Switch instead.

That's consoles, I once bought a CD-32 just before PlayStation launched, it happens. Don't be sad it's over, be happy it happened at all.

Given the catastrophic sales figures, it could be argued (from a purely business perspective) that Nintendo should have pulled the plug on the Wii U far earlier than they have. Instead they kept supplying it with high quality titles like Splatoon and Mario Maker. I can understand your feelings but I think that Nintendo really did try.

It was dead on arival. everybody who had the hopes that this console will have a long life was delusional.

They created an underpowered frankensteinesque Konsole without a support from outside and without an idea how this concept could succeed.

Don't feel betrayed, feel happy that Nintendo still tries to compete. And this time with a usable hardware foundation.

I don't feel betrayed, only a bit worried that I won't have many new games to play during first year after Switch launch because majority of games will be ports from WiiU.

The Wii U is nothing but miss opportunities with new possible styles of gameplay but what can you expect from a creative bankrupt gaming industry with the sole emphasis on "power". It didn't help that Nitnendo never released the Gamepad as a stand alone product and create a few multiplayer Gamepad games. Doesn't help that a last few games were very barebones by Nintendo.

They provided good support considering the sales. I still believe the concept was a good idea and a lot of games could be unique experiences (Luigi's Mansion, Metroid, racing games, adventure games, rts and much more) but the stupid marketing and design decisions, coupled with a weak console destined it to fail. It's a shame but there are many great games that Nintendo released for the system

No. It's time to move on. I'd say the Wii U had a good run, but it really didn't. Nintendo released some really good software for it but it just didn't sell and third parties weren't interested in it.

I just want some really good VC support on the NS, but only 32GB internal memory may but a real damper on that.

feels bad OP. I imagine thats how it feels being a Vita owner that expected first-party support for years

They supported the thing as long as they could. Be grateful it didn't get the Vita treatment.

Third party support?

Vita still has games coming out for it at least lol

4 years is pretty much a full console lifecycle and I'll have 26 physical games for it when all is said and done, and Nintendo's efforts were masterclass on the console.

I'm satisfied.

Why should I feel betrayed? The system received some of the best games so far this generation, so it's not like they didn't try, it's just that people didn't care.

If anything, I feel betrayed by gamers who chose to play shitty endless runners on their tablets instead of playing great Wii U games

Yeah...no. WiiU was okay for me and had the best exclusives of them all. The WiiU will go the same route as the now beloved Cube. 2016: it was disappointing. 2026: it was awesome!

The system will be 4 and a half years old when the Nintendo Switch comes out, the last year of most Nintendo consoles are really bad, honestly I'm surprised this one isn't. Old Nintendo would have launched the Switch in holiday 2017 and left you to play your Wii U without Zelda until Nintendo Switch comes out in the holidays.

To be perfectly honest though? I'm just glad Nintendo isn't going to put their hardware owners through multiple device hell. Wii U having to split resources with the 3DS and then Switch is what put us through those droughts. The device was just a poorly conceived concept. I've been gaming with Nintendo since I was in diapers and will probably be with them long after I've returned to diapers, but I didn't buy Wii U at launch, that is how bad it did, I waited until Wind Waker HD just because it didn't feel right to not own a Nintendo console.

Besides, I'm way too happy that I don't have to game on a 240p screen anymore, thank you 3DS but I'm gonna Switch.

I'm fine, I played a lot with my Wii U and had so much fun. Also, can't wait to buy Switch.

I would be really pleased if Nintendo will do some kind of deal for people that already have MK8 and Splatoon on Wii U and want to rebuy them on Nintendo Switch, even if the Switch versions looks like improved versions.

Also, I've still to buy Xenoblade X and Paper Mario on Wii U, but I'm not sure now, because maybe they'll port it to Switch.

"betrayed" ...

you got a shit ton of games, most other companies would've jumped ship way sooner. no botw at all, star fox canned, TMS#FE not localized and written off, paper mario moved to switch, TPHD moved to switch ...

you have not been betrayed. at all.

Nah. Had 20+ game for the system so i am more than happy here. And of course, 4 years is not bad. It is just the reality that Wii U is dead there.

I can see where you're coming from but I don't share this feeling. Wii U has brought me hundreds of hours of fun. Those won't go away because there's new hardware out. When it comes to the enhanced ports I'm glad they exist so I can just continue playing Splatoon/Smash/Mario Maker/Mario Kart. FOREVER. lol

Don't worry, i'm sure when those enhanced port will be there on Switch for multiplayer game, it won't be "like before" ah ah.

We were the one going from patches to patches in Smash 4 with some greatly enhance the competitive community. We saw HooHa and Greninja being nerfed. We saw Mewtwo being annonced as DLC for the first time which opened a lot of possibilities, then we saw Cloud and Bayonetta in there and we could play day one with the excitation of the community.
We saw the new release of Mario Kart 8, everyone going crazy for that licence again, found the new circuits with F Zero and Zelda stuff in it. Found the 200cc for the first time which was crazy before it was slightly nerfed to be a little slower.
We participated at Splatfest when it was still fresh and the game becoming better and better freely months after months.
And of course, we could played a lot of game which most likely will never made it to Switch like Lego City Undercover or The Wonderful 101.

I loved all those moment which are some of my favorite gaming moment of all time now. I don't feel betrayed, i just think Switch will have to have "its own games" which may be hard... Mario Kart/Smash have the most content the serie ever has and a licence like Splatoon don't come that often.

Nah, we are good.

You just need to compare it to Sony's treatment of Vita to see that Nintendo took care of what little username they had. They just didn't have an army of third parties to back them up.

I'm more than happy with what I got on the Wii U.

No, it was a great console with great games, not all of them are guaranteed to be ported to the Switch and even if they were I can still play Wii games and Gamecube rips (via Nintendont) through HDMI output and that even by itself would make the purchase worth it in hindsight.

Remember that before the last generation, average lifespan for a console was ~5 years.

By the time the Switch comes out, the Wii U will be pushing 5 years old. Yeah it's coming up short, but it's not that big a difference

Besides, Nintendo supported the Wii U like crazy. Far more than the others would. I'm not disappointed or betrayed at all

"Am I the only one?" LOL.

I can't tell if this is a bash Wii U thread or not. If you enjoyed playing games on the system, you shouldn't feel betrayed even if its lifespan was short.
