Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel |OT|

So were all the new weapons, armors and spells included in the last patch (so all players could see them in multi) and the actual level is the separate download? I'm surprised it wasn't all included in a patch like Old Hunters

review sites were giving this DLC around a 7...seems like the short length is what lowered the scores...do the people that have played it here agree with 7/10?...or is the game under-rated?
would say it's probably the worst souls DLC. most dlc's in the series and bloodborne elevates the game to greater heights. this just feels like it maintained the status quo of the base game.

I just finished it:

I'm disappointed by the length and by one of the two bosses (wolf guy isn't difficult) but I generally like the new area even though the part with a lot of soldiers is kind of hard to navigate.

I'm waiting for someone to write up the lore and what this DLC has added to it. I'm hopeful that the next DLC is in Londor and much more substantial.

Wolves suck. I've honestly never understood why people have trouble with dogs in Souls games. Now I do. At one point I had at least 10 of them chasing me, they're just really annoying.

Those assholes with the claws are the worst enemy in any Souls game, I'd take a combination of the Fishing Hamlet shark giants and Winter Lanterns over those guys. They remind me of the red-eyed skeletons in Carthus with their ridiculously fast attacks. Just not fun to fight at all.

Other than that I've been enjoying the DLC. First area is kinda just there but the second area has been much better so far.

Yeah, was expecting something more difficult than vanilla as well. This seems easier.

I totally forgot I had to download the DLC... I thought this was like The Old Hunters and just installed on the last patch they made.. seems like not.

Now this sluggish PSN will last 6 hours to download 1.6GB... How did they managed to get out with making PS+ even more expensive??

Just backstab the claw things and immediately follow up with a charged R2. It's super effective!

Got the DLC. I have just one thought
FUCK THOSE FUCKING ARCHERS. WHAT THE FUCK. AHHHHHHHHHHHH.

The level is absolutely beautiful, but those things are infuriating.

Depends when you do it. I started at 65 with a +7 weapon. I had to go get a few chunks and kill a few bosses because I was getting annihilated. Now I'm watching Oroboro's playthrough and it's obvious that it's completely trivial at high level with a +10 weapon. I'd say the
Claw/rapier enemies
are the hardest in the game.

Fantastic to se the online community for the main game alive again. Can't bother with the DLC when so many people want help with the end game bosses!

HALP. Wolvies and their owners are so mean. :(

Testing out the C
row Talons
against the first boss and enjoying it more than I thought. While I wish it borrowed more moves from the enemy that uses it, the weapon art is pretty handy. It broke through the shield of the enemy I was fighting and got 1 or 2 extra hits in. It's great for holding the enemy in place while a co-op buddy lands a heavy attack. Running L1 also does a mini leaping slash.

Is level 93 too much for the dlc? I'm still at the beginning of it but I feel like I'm killing everything way too easily.

Having just cleared the DLC, I gotta say this was really easy. The only place in the entire DLC where I died at all was against its main boss, which killed me four times or so before I took it down. The area itself is well designed with some interesting encounters though, it feels like Bloodborne's midgame (Chanel Road and the early parts of the Forest) in how it would put enemies out of your reach and you had to run around and kill them quickly.

Yeah, I'm probably too high a level I guess. It's a shame though, because being too high a level was actually a problem I ran into my first time with The Old Hunters. Basic ass enemies right off the bat were wrecking me, and I loved it.

I did notice I was getting summoned more for any covenants that auto-summon you. Dunno if it's because of a peak in player population, they finally fixed matchmaking, or both, but it was happening so often I had to make myself a Sun Bro to just get through the rest of the DLC uninterrupted.

Didn't get too far tonight, will probably finish tomorrow though with as much free time as I'll have.

Only trouble I had were the second boss and Millwood Knights. Millwood because if they gang up on you + wolves then good luck lol.

Second boss was hard but like always, memorize that shit.

Im lvl 120 in NG+ and so far early in im steamrolling everything. I may have to switch to my lower lvl in NG and try it out.

Or I suppose the calamity ring will work.

I guess I value things differently because to me 15 bucks for more quality Souls content is always worth it, even if its ~5 hours (which is how long a ton of 15-20 dollar indie games are anyway)

Most other people are comparing it to previous From Software DLC though, which has built a reputation of being higher quality than the vanilla game that it's for. This is the first exception, and it's disappointing because of that.

Thats fair but I'd say this is better than Dark Souls 2 DLC

Got 4 bonfires in, so far the enemies have been pretty obnoxious. Trees that summon 20 fire spells that follow you and can 1HKO you if they clump up is pretty stupid. Dogs suck.

The voice acting is good, though. And the NPC's all seem to greet me as
Hollow Lord

Damn this area is BIG. So many branching paths, and it'll be easy for people to miss parts if they're not really thorough.

Why didn't the dlc just automatically download? Really annoying that I had to select to download the content. Did Old Hunters work like this? I'm pretty sure that I pre ordered it and it downloaded as soon as it was ready to go.

Wow, I can't believe all the lack luster impressions of the DLC. This is the first Souls anything that I've passed on.

I'm glad that From is working on something entirely new. I thought I'd never see the day but I've tired on the souls series.

What the fuck is up with
the dude with the greatsword in the chapel just after the enemy that comes down and attacks the multiple bird like humans
dear fucking god he's ridiculous.

Is it known yet if there are any items that require another game cycle to grab, or can you get all the stuff in one playthrough?

So I stopped playing for a while. Did they ever fix the online issues people were having?
I'm wondering if I should play on my main steam account or the account I had to make to let me play with others online.

Spend a good 2-3 hours in the DLC, found quite a bunch of new stuff in the game. Lots of different type of environments and enemies within those few hours. Haven't fought a single boss yet.

The atmosphere and visuals are breathtaking. Level layout and design is pretty good too though not outstanding.

Some of the areas give a very Bloodborne feel to them and the creep factor is definitely dialed up.

It's not particularly difficult though. I am playing on NG+4 with a 130 level character and am generally breezing through it. The hardest part for me so far was the
Crow looking dude with the Rapier and throwing daggers.

Also there should've been at least one extra boss in this DLC.
Preferably something creepy or weird like a Crow style enemy or a boss based on those fly/maggot enemies.

Item distribution is kinda wack too.
Beat a hard ass red eye Viking looking dude on top of a tower and get a Titanite Shard for your troubles.
From Software at maximum levels of trolls.

I feel like if this DLC was priced lower no one would really complain about it but at the current price it's definitely steep. I can see the criticism but I am enjoying my time, can't wait to dig into it again tomorrow.

But the Dark Souls 3 base game was better than the past DLCs.

Really bummed there are no new trophies.

I think I'm going to make a new character to play through this.. Shouldn't take too long to get there.

So, im not sure if anyone tried this, but what happens if
you attack friede before the final fight? is the boss fight negated, or the game doesnt really care you killed her?A friend of mine mistakenly killed her, and is afraid it fucked his save.

I was discussing the shitty loot with a freind of mine and he says that you have to keep in mind how some new folks might play the dlc very early so getting titanite shard might explain that.

Then again there is a message right in the begining where it says that this is the road of the tough/conqueror lothric first etc.

So I just fought
Ariendel/Friede
. Is that it? I haven't found any other bosses, but
Friede
definitely seemed like the main boss of the DLC. That's really underwhelming if so.

2 and a half hours and still haven't encountered the first boss. It's a bit on the easy side, but I don't get the complaint about it being too short. Are people rushing through the game or something?

Gotta go to work now, today's going to be a painful work day.

EDIT: Item placement is kinda crap though, why hide homeward bones behind 3 knights and their wolves?

She just magically disappears and will reappear when you travel back to the area via bonfire

really enjoying the DLC (except the loot, wtf?)

well if you count dark souls 2 that's not true, iron king was nice but not much and ivory king is the worst thing in the entire series, especially that gimmick shitty final boss. Fuck that.

Sunken King is amazing, tho
