Yeah...the way he plays is not someone who is a big fan of 2d sonic games. Didnt seem to know the yellow spring has a max height and kept bouncing to try ans get higher lol.

I would consider myself a big fan of 2D Sonic games, and I didn't know that...

I would kill for an
unlockable sonic heroes mode, where you can play as all three characters and find extra goodies by using all three strategically. Like that one mod.

I wonder how the special stages works in this game
DZ5fNav.gif

If they can render everything, Sonic included, in 3D then I'll be mad hyped. Do a complete 180º flip on the retro visuals.
Because I always felt that's what the special stages were going for: total 3D, and completely different visuals to the rest of the game.

Okay, badniks time!

Here we have a donkey with a bumper for a saddle. I would call this guy Burrobot, but that's a Sonic 1 enemy ;P. It rolls around and if it sees you it revs up and tries to charge you like the Rhinobots from Sonic 3 and the bumper reminds me of Crawl from Casino Night Zone.

This new hawk/buzzard badnik perches atop cacti and other level elements and then swoops down when you get near. If you are near the ground it will hug the contours of the ground like Penguinator.

Caterkiller. It's a recolored Caterkiller from Sonic 1. This version wraps around poles and then lunges at you like Crawlton from Mystic Cave Zone.

Roller. A recolored Roller from Sonic 1. This armadillo has gotten a mighty upgrade. He will chase you like crazy until you hit him.

There was a tiny bit of concept art that came out a few years ago and it wasn't a desert stage (as people theorised for years based on the loading screen map), this also looks virtually nothing like Dust Hill from Sonic 2.
.

Yes that's what I meant. The scrapped CD level bieng a desert was just fan theory looking at the map. Even the ending includes an unknow zone that is not a desert (the one with the Sonic 2 8-bits look a like badnik)

Holy shit, man... That'd be an awesome twist / surprise.

I'm glad to see the concepts for scrapped stages have finally been reworked into something in a release. I'd love to see Wood Zone, Genocide City Zone, or even Sonic 2's Hidden Palace Zone get molded into something that will appear in Sonic Mania. The wait for this game is going to kill me. I need a demo NOW

Yeah I hope they release the demo they have been showing. I would no joke play that demo pretty much non stop till the final release.

Sonic 2's HPZ already showed up in the iOS/Android remaster. (And it owns.)

Why the hell the definitive edition of Sonic 2 is a mobile exclusive baffles me to this very day. Especially since in the past Sega has put Sonic 2 on anything that can possibly run the game.

SEGA actually bothered to port the new version of SONIC CD to consoles. I always wondered what was the reason for not doing it with SONIC 1 and 2.

At the time I think they were under console exclusivity with Nintendo for new Sonic projects. Sonic 1 and 2 remastered were released in that time.

As of now, it's probably down to marketing and Taxman & co. working on Mania. We'll get it eventually, I'm sure.

Burro-bot.

man if only this was Sonic 4 instead
It can be Sonic 4
in our hearts
.

Or just accept that it's the first of a new line of 2D Sonics that goes beyond the trappings of the 16-bit architecture it was born on: Sonic Mania, Sonic Mania 2, Sonic Mania 3 & Fang, etc.

new 2D sonic via cartridge on a portable console in 2016

what is happening

new 2D sonic via cartridge on a home console aswell. What a time

I really like what I'm seeing. I hope special stage can mix Sonic 2 and Sonic CD special stages in some form.

Nah, just give me another batch of half pipe, run to emerald, rings checkpoint based Sonic 2's bonus stage with a catchy music like Saturn's 3D Blast bonus stage and I'm done

Amazing! Tails and Knuckles look great! I can't wait until March. Hopefully Sega will put out a demo of it or something. I would love to play this now.

First game I have fond memories of playing is Sonic 2. Going to absolutely get this Day 1. It has something that no amount of expertise can reproduce; actual passion for the series.

It just looks absolutely, unconditionally great! No Sonic game has looked this good since 1994, with the exception of the ace mobile ports of Sonic 1/2/CD and the sadly-abandoned PlaySega Sonic Maker from seven years ago.

My only regret, is that it isn't called Sonic The Hedgehog 4.

I absolutely cannot wait to play this!

What's up with the screen door effect in this video?

Are they playing with some kind of video filter on or does the whole game look like this?

Never played the first 3 Sonics and i honestly should someday, but this looks amazing i will surely get this. Nice of Sega to do this with a fan project.

Wish Nintendo would have done that with AM2R.

I'm going to buy it, but im not really excited. This looks like a really well-managed sonic fangame.

I'm sure it'll be good, but ive been played out of 2D sonic at this point. The last game to actually shake the formula up was Sonic & Knuckles and there have been few significant changes to "classic" sonic gameplay since then.

This game is brand new but it already feels like ive beaten it 100 times.

There are confirmed to be CRT filter options. This footage is using one.

They mention it in the video too.
A poor video in that respect. Scanlines don't play well on YouTube and they didn't even bother uploading at 60fps. Disappointing.

So she confirmed there's 7 remixed Zones. There's 14 levels right there since assuming all have 2 acts. Assuming there's 7 new zones that's 24 levels. Let's throw in that there's probably two smaller hidden zones when you get all the chaos emeralds, that's 26.

Sega said there will be more remixed zones than new zones.

I remember that browser game. Always loved how much the stage art looked like something you'd see in an official Sonic game, even if it was cobbled together and/or directly inspired by existing sprite work.
