NFL 2016 Week 8 |OT| - Plays of the Week

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 3m3 minutes ago
The #Patriots would have received a compensatory pick for Jamie Collins if he’d left in free agency. They get one this year in exchange.

Contract talks going nowhere. 15 million franchise tag a possibility - they just went for the pick now.

This season should have more Vikings and Raiders games out front - and not games against the fucking Chicago Bears.

College is able to move shit around at the last second so should the NFL.

How many prime time games have the Bears had so far? Three? Four? It feels like it's been a few too many for a team with one win so far.

Collins on the second play of the game does whatever he wants and Bills gain 28 yards. Been happening all year. It was not going to continue

Clearly Bill thinks whatever new cheating system that he came up with this year is so good that he doesnt need players to run it.

Ok but they are trying to win a superbowl this year...

Albert Breer ‏@AlbertBreer 1m1 minute ago
1 definitive lesson from 12 years covering them ... Presence of Brady makes you think "win now!" But Pats NEVER approach it like that.

How many division titles and Super Bowls the last 15 years? Everyon laughs and makes jokes when Bill does things like this but he just continues to win. I wish the some other team.....cough Texans would start to copy that blueprint

Man the media is so quick to try and coverup for any possible mistake that the cheat might make.

Not saying I agree or disagree. Just extrapolating the thinking behind it.

Also, considering the utter logjam of garbo teams in the league - its not as though the sledding will be /that/ tough for the Pats to get to the Super Bowl this season.;)

Belichick trading proven players for busts.

In all seriousness we're probably going to hear shit about him missing meeting or refusing special teams work. Still, With GM's Bill's 3rd round track record he should have held on tight and never let go.

Yeah if the Super Bowl was held today, the Patriots would win it all.

Our only hope (same hope as every year) is for the 16 game slog to wear them down and the pressure of the playoffs finally overcoming them.

I posted that article last week about defensive players and how little impact it had in losing a starter to injury. Belichick has been clear since Seymour that he won't give big extensions to defensive players. It works for him though I think he has cost himself a SB or two along the way with some of his trades

Lombardi is a BB sycophant.

Tough being a Bucs fan. We can't shake the perennial loser status. That defensive hold on 4th and 3 at the end of regulation was just absolutely gutwrenching.

Not sure if we'll ever be anything over than average. Just so many weaknesses on our team.

You mean the "we play in a division where the other three teams can't get their heads out of their asses" blueprint? Belichick is a genius for that one.

Asterisks would have 5 Asterisks right now if they had some semblance of a defense in 2011.

So.. we did something good.

Apparently they couldn't get a long term deal worked out.

If Browns can't sign Collins we gonna look silly as fuck. It's a 3rd found comp pick we traded so end of round
We have the money.. hopefully he likes playing with Ray Horton?

If we can get an extension done, then that might reduce the need for us to take a top LB in the Draft and can look at shoring up the secondary even further or look at possible Oline picks.

Please Sochi and company.. get a long term deal done and I will be happy.

NFL's Response to Cam Newton Calling Them Out

Per a source with knowledge of the league’s position on the matter, the NFL would contend (and likely will contend, if Newton follows through on his vow to speak to Commissioner Roger Goodell) that, as missed roughing calls go, he’s faring better than plenty of quarterbacks.

From the league’s perspective, the officials have missed three roughing calls on Cam since the start of the 2013 season. (Yes, that seems low.) Eleven other quarterbacks, by the league’s count, have had more missed roughing calls: Jay Cutler, Alex Smith, Geno Smith, Josh McCown, Andrew Luck, Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, Joe Flacco, Ben Roethlisberger, Case Keenum, and Ryan Tannehill.

Basically: Yes our refs suck, but they suck more for other guys!

I actually agree with what Dungy said last night. It shouldn't be Cam Newton's responsibility to fight this battle. He is the most important player in the history of the Carolina Panthers as a franchise. The organization should be riding for him, if not even for him, but for the team as a whole. But no one is a bigger company man than Jerry Richardson (there's a reason the NFL Logo is still on the center of the field) and I think if he had to choose between his biggest investment and not rocking the boat with his fellow owners, I think he'd take the league's side and would direct his GM and coaches to do the same.

Pretty much. It's funny that people slurp the Pats when they start the season with the division already won.

Pats are only in the playoffs every year because of their division record. Their record against teams out of division proves this.

Maybe Tannehill will start getting some calls

Also squick, I saw that post about defensive injuries. But defenses are not like offenses - their effective comes from their play as a unit.

Collins was arguably the best player on the defense, especially after Jones was shipped off. How good will the unit be without Collins cleaning up from the middle?

The jealousy driven narratives in these threads is amusing

I'm told Collins turned down $11m per year from the Patriots. Franchise Tag should be around $15m this spring

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 2m2 minutes ago
With Jamie Collins contract coming up, he was at one point asking for what one league source described as “Von Miller money." Von: 6-$114.5M

If you really think it is jealousy after all these years then I dont know what to say to you. Cheating is easily the worst thing you can do in sports and the Pats have been caught numerous times now.

Brady record and he plays the division winners every fucking year lol

Afc north 23-5
Afc south 23-5
Afc west 17-11

In the past 15 years

Patriots world championships: 4

Eagles world championships: 0

Texans world championships: 4 via being family

I win

That's nice.

Asterisks have no competition in their division.

Let's go round the league, shall we?

AFC North

Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals all good.

South

Manning went uncontested for years (though the Jags did make noise at first). Finally the Colts are getting grief from the Texans

West

Broncos, Chargers have been trading dominance for over a decade,

NFC North

Packers have the Vikings and Bears

South

Falcons, Saints, and Panthers

East

All 4 have won the division in the last decade

West

Cardinals, Niners, and Seahawks al have claimed the division.

The Asterisks have a lot of out of division wins, to be sure. You make the playoffs by winning your division though, and they haven't been given any serious challenge by any team in their division in almost a decade.

The argument about defensive players was really just that teams can adapt to losses. Play more zone if a CB is out, or blitz more if a pass rusher is out. But if you lose a WR or LT, then it is much more difficult to use scheme to mask that loss.

I am a huge Watt fan, but I would trade him (healthy) every day of the week for Julio Jones or AJ Green. Watt was one of the 5 best defensive players of the last 30 years but it just doesn't matter like a really good WR does

LOL at Rap Sheet's tweet about most memorable moment for Andre Johnson that was him pummeling Cortland Finnegan's face for sweet justice.

Also the NFL really need to get rid of Phil Sims. I can't stand watching games where he's announcing. He offers no insight what-so-ever and every call or decision on the field is always the right call. Nintendo Power used to be more critical of Nintendo than Phil Sims is of anything football related.

lol being traded to the Browns is a harsh punishment. Bellichick must have really hated him.

Phil Simms gives me brain cancer and CTE simultaneously.

If you take it back.. I will. Cheer.. for Arkansas in their bowl game..

Pls?

Arkansas is probably playing in the "Ed's Septic Cleaning and Plumbing" bowl in the middle of December so no thanks.

Also sounds like you guys are going to pay way too much for him. When was the last guy to leave the Patriots and play really well or even better after he left?

Talked to Bus Cook, agent for new # Browns LB Jamie Collins: “I spoke to him. He’s excited about getting over there.”

Bus Cook, Jamie Collins agent: “The thinking is, if they don’t want me, go someplace that does.” Collins knows the records. Still OK with it
He's ok with! Crisis adverted! Looks like I've officially done it.

Now they need to sign him quickly. I guess at worse they could franchise him and have 1.5 years to sign him. Need to lock up him and Pryor

Don't know how you can make this trade and not get the guy signed. Don't let me down sushi brown!

Ok. You know I'll come back to it if you wrong pleighboi!...... you didn't have to do this
