Pokémon Sun & Moon |OT| Ultra Beasts and where to find them

KingSnake

The Birthday Skeleton
Isn't a bit early for OT? Trying to steal the reviews thunder instead of getting a proper review thread?

DualShockers Review is in!

www.dualshockers.com/2016/11/15/pokemon-sun-pokemon-moon-review-nintendo-3ds-new/

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are both fantastic additions to the series’ 20th anniversary. With an inspired new generation of Pokémon and a ton of variation, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are the freshest take on a tried-and-true series. However, just like a vacation, most changes are ones I hope are temporary — I’ll be happy to return to the formula again next year.

Anyone else's Amazon order estimated for the 22nd? That sucks so much especially since I have Prime.

Mine is estimated for the 18th, but is shipping today, which has me crossing my fingers that it shows up early. Typically when I've had release-date delivery on Amazon they'd overnight it the evening before, not 3 days in advance.

I pre-ordered and pre-downloaded Sun on my 3DS. I will be playing this first thing Friday morning.

I am also dressing up as a pokemon trainer for my airplane ride. I figure going through the air port with a POKEMON TRAINER hat and TEAM INSTICT t-shirt will be awesome for travelers to see.

I don't even get why it's released next Tuesday in Europe, lol.

We don't even have Tuesday releases, unless it's parity for a worldwide release.

Would have been a nice Birthday present if we got it the same day as US/JP. Sigh.

Edit: It's a Wednesday release even? THAT MAKES EVEN LESS SENSE!

When did you preorder? I've heard people who preordered the game on Amazon later gets it at a later date.

9/10. "Great evolution for the series, best story since Black and White".
Ehh BW story was garbage though. I mean it was "good" for Pokemon but...

Mine is estimated for the 18th, but estimated to ship tomorrow. Haven't ordered a release day-shipping game since I moved here, but hoping it gets in Early :p.

Curious if their distribution centers are just far from you since 3 days in advance is quite a bit.

There's a distribution center literally 20 minutes from me. We have Prime Now offered here. unless that center somehow didn't receive any shipments of Sun and Moon, that seems odd. I got charged for it and everything today!

I have the same.

I'm guessing it's either so much demand that they can't meet all the orders in time for release day, or something's changed in terms of release-date-delivery 'need to order by X' days.

I ordered about a week ago, to be fair, but it was kind of shitty to get an email update informing me of the delay when the initial email still said the 18th.

Oh that's really weird. I'm pretty sure I'm close to one (at least we have the Amazon delivery service these days) as well and I was thinking 2 days was quite a bit... hope you get it early then!

Gonna buy a copy of each Friday morning for me and my housemate.

I'm going Sun + Rowlet and he's going Moon + Litten.

So excited, think this will be a great return to form after whatever gen 6 was.

So I've been in the leak thread this past week reading impressions, I thought if people are interested here's a summary of the pros and cons of Sun and Moon. I haven't played them myself, but here's some key points that may effect your purchase...

No specific spoilers but still tagging them in case you want to go in fresh...impressions on scope of plot, difficulty, Pokemon, music, graphics, and post-game

Plot: I've heard it has the "best plot" of a Pokemon game perhaps, with some exciting moments and such, yet at the same time this also means more linearity and pushing the player along with cutscenes. The main game is better than XY at the very least. Decent amount of classic cameos, but nothing B2W2-level.

Difficulty: I've heard the game isn't super challenging, the opponents still use less Pokemon than before, yet with the level scale system back from BW it's harder to overlevel compared to XY. At the same time the Totem Battles can be tricky with some interesting combos, the opponents now actively target weaknesses and switch, and many of the New Pokemon are on the slower side so using them means the opponent will get in an attack at least instead of you just sweeping through them.

Pokemon: Not as varied as XY, but a decent amount of classics---the New Pokemon seem to have a "Johto syndrome" where they're a bit pushed to the side in many cases with low encounter rates and such. Also they're all pretty slow, including ones who you think would be fast. Some classic Pokemon got buffs (one got a nerf), including stat upgrades and new Abilities. There's not many non-Alola Dex Pokemon available in the post-game right now, so you'll need to rely on PokeBank if you're going for 100% National Dex. There's no in-game National Dex, presumably being saved for Bank.

Music: Varied and really nice, weakness music is possibly the default battle themes but everything else is good---"best OST since Black and White".

Graphics: Frame rate still takes a dip pretty regularly, and the addition of Trainers lead presumably to the removal of Triple and Rotation as well as Hordes. Otherwise the region looks nice.

Post-game: Neat new system that makes competitive training pretty interesting and fast, though requires some set-up. Multiple Legendary Pokemon to catch and a Battle Facility that's fairly challenging. About XY-level from what I've heard. Downside is very few non-Alola Dex Pokemon to catch and not a lot of new areas that open up. Do get to rematch various major Trainers though such as Trial Captains, and use more than just 2 Pokemon like the Battle Chateau rematches in XY.

Welp here is mine, but I've finished the game including about the half of the postgame content.

Story: it's okay, but the cutscenes are sometimes way too long and start to get annoying. I also hate that smiling guy Tali (that's his name in German). The UB story in postgame is too short and rather...lame. Finished the story in 17 hours. UB catching took 1 1/2 hours.

Difficulty: Hardest Pokemon game so far even though I played with EXP share. AI is good and can really wreck you if you don't watch out. Totem boss battles were are nice new addition and could stay. The leaders had too few Pokemon though. There is so much money in this game that you won't need to grind ever. The UB quest gives you 1 million after finishing it lol.

Pokemon: All the legendarys are lame this time imo. Cosmog is a strange case for me. :| The UBs lose their charme cause they are so easy to catch (literally not weakening them and throwing a ultraball will almost catch them all the time immediately which makes catching more of them (yeah, more than one!) even easier. The new Alola forms are nice to look at. The other new Pokemon are nice but felt too weak?

Music: Music fits the hawaii theme. Nothing more to say than the final battle music is amazing.

Graphics: Looks really good and I love that style. The FPS on the O3DS are horrible. So horrible. Sometimes it slowed down so much that I walked in slowmo in the game for more than 20 seconds. WTF really disappointed in that and it even uses all the 3DS memory....

Postgame: Catch 5 UBs, catch 4 Guardians, Battle Tree, Refighting people - that's it. Nothing spectacular and nothing that would make me play further except competive things which I don't sadly.

All in all I would give it a 7,5/10. The fact that the game feels like it's dieing in town made this decision easier for me to rank it lower. Story bits started to get annoying here and there. Everything else I am disappointed with is in the spoiler. Will post my winning team later.

Edit: Nobody should expect a good story in here...it's really not.

OP should probably add a spreadsheet as we get closer, but you all should add me for some hot trading and battling.

My 3DS FC is: 1676-3675-9388

PM or reply once you've added me, and I'll do the same!

Yo Pokegaf,

In the spirit of SunMo, I'll be trading mons early to anyone who wants anything when you finally are allowed to trade.

I got alot of different mons. Formantis, female Salandits, wishiwashi. I got cubones, dewpider, rockruffs, oricorios.

You name it, I'll get it to you.

Gamexplain confirmed major improvement for New 3DS.
This was kind of evident with the demo, but it's more apparent in the full game.

I am probably going to reset till I get a female Rowlet so I can breed easily. If anyone is going to do the same with Litten or Popplio I'd love to swap eggs at the earliest opportunity.

My fiancé wants to do this to get a female popplio, can you save between starting the game and getting your starter? Anyone know?

While a switch version might be a given for any other Nintendo property, past experiences with Gamefreak during generation transitions would say it's probably not happening.

It takes a WHILE before you get your starter.. Maybe 30 mins.

It's really not ideal.. You may want to reconsider and just wait till you can get some ditto

I don't know why anyone would assume anything with Pokemon, especially a "Switch" version. Nothing has been announced.

No, and it is pretty unlikely based on past Pokemon games and new Nintendo consoles.

That said, anything is possible.

Right. If anything, I'd expect a 3rd version or Sun2/Moon2 on the Switch sometime late next year. I don't think they would directly port Sun and Moon. Realistically though, I don't think we see Pokemon on Switch until Gen 8.

This is going to be my last Nintendo 3DS game purchase for the system. I'm pretty happy with my solid library of games for both the DS & 3DS, but I feel I also got my fill with what's available. I might get a New Nintendo 3DS to serve as a back-up for my system, but it depends on how the older games perform on the newer hardware.
