I really have got to get into this series...

Yes indeed.

The origins of the series were two arcade games.

Another thing. I'm planning on playing 4/5/0 is there a continuing story?

Not particularly. There are references, some characters show up in several of them, but there is no overarching storyline. Bear in mind 0 is a prequel set before 5 (and 4 I think).

Not really.

There's a shared universe of Strangereal, but 4/5/0 and 6 are independent. The closest thing is that Belkan War (0) is a prequel; as in timeline wise it's before 4 and 5

Aw Fuck Yeah. I fell asleep this morning and missed everything PSX.

Ace Combat 7 looks very promising.

No More Dancing With Angels.

I heard that phrase one too many times. Ugh.

Does anyone have any idea when this will be released?

So since I'm bored went and did a quick breakdown of stuff in the trailer:

Erusian flag on the old man snake pilot dude

Drone pilot

"EASA" Erusian space agency? Also drone camera thing in the RIO seat

Markings struck from the Usean fighter

Game hud, so confirm the F-16 and Su-30 in the game. Beautiful cockpit detail too

Same struck Usean designation and the F-15 shooting railguns from the gun pods

Impressive reflections and please have some high altitude/edge of space test flying

Ma-fuckin' Stonehenge back in the game.

I'm glad they back to Strangereal setting. Unsung War is still the best installment followed by Belkan War.

I agree. I liked a lot of what it had to offer. It really was missing a lot by being out of the Strangereal universe though.

Also press triangle for fist raise was fun.

So, Erusea first got beaten by the ISAF, then got bodied by Mobius-1...and then decide to take on Osea? Erusean's military isn't the brightest bulb in the room it seems...

:D It was a decent game but ultimately trash compared to AC4 and AC5 and I bought it twice (PS3 and PC). Its soundtrack is definitely godly though, I love it. Not as good as AC5 soundtrack but still epic in its own right.

The only thing I absolutely despised was that even with
Helicopter pilot
Helicopter gunner
Markov
illich
Janice
Bishop
Gutierrez
French NATO commander
Russian commander

They couldn't give the other 2 pilots in your 4 pilot squadron literally a second of screentime?
Especially when it seems like one of them is freaking Nagase
640

(though possibly in Tiger or Coyote squadrons.)

Dude, badass compilation and impressions, +1

The VR demo is about 4 mins long and is about as involved as jackal. Infact the lock-on mechanics and push R2 to launch is the same.

So is this just going to be an add on or can you play the campaign in VR does anyone know?

For world reference. For those unfamiliar with the Strangereal world

AC4 is Erusea vs ISAF (Rest of the nations on the same continent)
AC5 is Osea vs Yuktobania
AC0 is Belka vs everyone around them
AC6 is Emmeria vs Estovakia

AC7 being Erusea vs Osea. And they say Erusea is a continent so possible they finally conquered the whole continent
Cause Mobius One died of old age probably or something like that

Assault Horizon was so bad, I'll check for this at some point though. More than anything I'm glad they're still making these games.

Since I started with AC5 I don't know anything about Usea, but lemme get this straight:

So the first four games mainly concerned what was going on on the Usean continent, which Namco then pretended was a fictional continent in our world? Then with AC5 Namco said "the whole world is now fictional" and retconnect the previous games to reflect this?

Man watching those trailers makes me wonder why I never got into the series sooner. Has just the right amount of cheese for me.

No, the Strangereal universe has been around since at least AC4. That's actually where the very first world map we got comes from.

The first two games in the series were called Air Combat and Air Combat 22.

Ace Combat 2 was the first one with the "Ace" name and was it's own thing. Its remake Assault Horizon Legacy brings it into Strangerea.

Ace Combat 3 was in the distant future where megacorporations and a UN-like group rule the world.

Ace Combat 4 was where we got the Strangereal concept really solidifying. An asteroid called Ulysses 1994FX04 breaks up in orbit, raining down pieces that destroy numerous places. In response a facility like Stonehenge was built in order to destroy any other parts that fall into the atmosphere. Erusea takes it over to grant themselves a huge anti-air weapon, a big advantage as they invade the rest of the continent's countries.

AC5, Zero, and AC6 simply continue to develop that world by jumping to other conflicts around the world. AC5 is two superpowers going to war because they're being manipulated by bitter Belkan losers. Zero jumps back in time to follow that very war.

Ace Combat X is in Strangereal and covers the war between Aurelia and Leasath, to the south of the Osean Federation.

That world is a big part of Ace Combat, and one part of why people were instantly hostile to Assault Horizon.

A lot of the superweapons in Strangereal were built to counter Ulysses. Most of them weren't completed in time and hundreds of thousands of people were killed by what Stonehenge couldn't handle.

Except for Zero: The Belkan War, every game set in Strangereal is part of the Legacy of Ulysses arc. We think the last Ulysses superweapons, the Chandelier, was destroyed in 6 but who knows with 7?

The Arkbird was originally an anti-asteroid weapon.

Oh. Fuck. Yes.

Now I just need an Ace Combat 5 remaster to complete this orgasm.

About that... Bandai-Namco held a poll a while back asking people which games from the Ace Combat and Ridge Racer franchises they'd like to see remade. Ace Combat 5 won the Ace Combat side, and Ridge Racer 4 won on the RR side.

So if anything comes from that, we're in for a AC5 remake/remaster.

Ah, you don't know how good it feels to talk about all this while we have a brand new, traditional AC7 on the way. FUCK YES WE'RE GETTING ACE COMBAT 7!

But yeah, we've got the Arsenal Bird in AC7 which bears more than a passing resemblance to the Arkbird but that looks more like it fills the giant aircraft archetype rather than the big superweapon of the game. Like others have said earlier, it might be that space elevator, maybe rigged with a bomb?

Have you played Infinity? That game's twist was that there were multiple Stonehenges built, suggesting a standardized anti-asteroid solution.

Not that I think about it, one reason why I like Strangereal so much is the freedom it provides. They're not constrained by real world national bullshit.
