ACE COMBAT 7 PSX 2016 trailer

just wanted to point out that ace combat was always ace combat on ps1. it was renamed air combat in the english versions

Well, we're talking about the series as a whole not just the PS1 entries. Air Combat and Air Combat 22 were kind of their own thing, with the latter being the actual sequel to the first game.

Saw this on reddit:

My initial analysis of the trailer/general speculation thread

<<IT'S TIME>>
Some Notes/Speculation from the trailer thread, now all compiled:

* Old dude being helped by two women is Erusian, as seen by insignia on his sleeve. Physically appears similar to Yellow 13. Later appears in trailer as enemy ace, flying a * Su-30. The woman and child seen here and later in the trailer looks like his spouse and child. Flight suit looks more advanced then your standard NOMEX fare.
* Prison camp I'm guessing is Osean GITMO equivalent, as the guards are wearing current day USAF uniforms, as the OADF is an analogue to the USAF.
* Osean planes have identification bort numbers crossed out, with only low visibility roundels present, similar to in teaser trailer. Protagonist(?) at 0:21 has no insignia or ranks on flight suit, aside from a red armband. This supports my theory that the protagonist OADF unit is a Special Operation squadron, which operates with some form of plausible deniability. Later convicts are mentioned in the dialogue, indicating the protagonist unit may be a penal unit sent on dangerous and dirty missions by the Osean government with no hope of survival (We some kind of suicide squad?).
* F-15 at 0:26 is equipped with some sort of dual laser/plasma gun pod system. This indicates that advanced directed energy weaponry has proliferated widely. Expect to see aircraft such as the Fenrir, FALKEN, and CFA-44 in widespread use. Since we are fighting Erusea, expect to see hostile X-02 units.
* F-104 woohoo! Note: no markings. Appears to take off from the same desert that the Su-30 landed at.
* Orange tailed Erusian Su-30 is likely antagonist aircraft. At 0:15, note the EASA markings on tailfin, may indicate advanced technology prototype.
* At 0:45, Super Hornet is equipped with railgun, similar to the one on the CFA-44. Again, advanced weaponry from AC6/ACX has proliferated widely. HUD states it is an EML, indicating it is indeed the same model from AC6. General design looks a lot like the Chandelier.
* Flying carrier is named as the Arsenal Bird. OADF has to destroy it. May have been hacked by Erusea.
* External weapons pods are heavily used by OADF. Expect 8AAM and 12AAM, get fucked Erusians.
* Assload of drones.
* Stonehenge at 0:48 and Ulysses fragments and impact craters are seen. Maybe a flashback, could relate to prison camp scene.
* At 0:11, we can see that the back seat of the antagonist Su-30 has a drone module, possibly ZOE/NEMO influenced. Along with unmanned aircraft, expect Deus Ex/Ghost in the Shell/Yukikaze style trashumanist themes to appear.
* Waifu bait may be Erusian royalty. Note Erusian roundel on aircraft behind her.
* Protagonist (?) (Some calling him Cup Lord) looks like either Archer or Grimm from AC5.

Ace Combat is traditionally a PlayStation game.

Ace Combat 6 / Xbox 360 exclusive / 2007.

As revealed in Famitsu early that year.

But Ace Combat is back in blue.

Famitsu on Ace Combat 6 - From last year's reveal trailer.

That drone thing seems like a really clever way of adding cheap/easy COFFIN type advantages to an older airframe. Sucks that we don't get the cool looking sealed cockpit look, but imagine if the twist is that Eruseans load it up with combat data from Aces that defeated them in the past.

It's really, really cool that we're seeing a proliferation of the high tech stuff that was often only seen in the experimental aircraft in previous games. Hilarious that the Oseans got the Arkbird hijacked back in AC5 and may have also lost its successor to enemy hands.

VR demo impression

http://wwg.com/2016/12/03/playstation-experience-ace-combat-7-vr-hands-on-highway-to-the-d/

The gameplay feels like vintage Ace Combat, with great controls when it comes to flying, slowing down to corner faster, and getting out of a “stall” if you end up going too high too quickly. (You probably don’t want to crash in VR, just saying.) The targeting system adds a nice touch in VR, though it’s bound to be more traditional within the main Ace Combat 7 game. Still, it’s a nice demonstration for the PlayStation VR, if you’re into those sort of experiences.

As for the visuals, they looked very good, running at a steady frame rate in the headset (they looked great on the TV monitor as well, indicating that the game will keep that frame rate with the full release), and the explosions are highly detailed as you swat enemies out of the sky. The sound wasn’t bad either, with some rock tunes playing in the background (the Ace Combat tradition!) and solid voice chatter with your co-pilots.

The voice acting leaves a little bit to be desired. It’s not every day you get to hear someone be so incredibly calm when they’re shot out of the sky (“I’m going down.”), but fortunately, Bandai Namco said it’s working on improving for the final release.

While we would’ve liked to have seen more of the full Ace Combat 7 game in action, the VR demo definitely feels like a strong entry in the series, and could lead to bigger things to come when the final game arrives for PlayStation 4 in 2017. We’re not sure if it’s coming to other platforms yet (without the VR demo), but it’s certainly possible.

No, the Strangereal universe has been around since at least AC4. That's actually where the very first world map we got comes from.

The first two games in the series were called Air Combat and Air Combat 22.

Ace Combat 2 was the first one with the "Ace" name and was it's own thing. Its remake Assault Horizon Legacy brings it into Strangerea.

Ace Combat 3 was in the distant future where megacorporations and a UN-like group rule the world.

Ace Combat 4 was where we got the Strangereal concept really solidifying. An asteroid called Ulysses 1994FX04 breaks up in orbit, raining down pieces that destroy numerous places. In response a facility like Stonehenge was built in order to destroy any other parts that fall into the atmosphere. Erusea takes it over to grant themselves a huge anti-air weapon, a big advantage as they invade the rest of the continent's countries.

AC5, Zero, and AC6 simply continue to develop that world by jumping to other conflicts around the world. AC5 is two superpowers going to war because they're being manipulated by bitter Belkan losers. Zero jumps back in time to follow that very war.

Ace Combat X is in Strangereal and covers the war between Aurelia and Leasath, to the south of the Osean Federation.

That world is a big part of Ace Combat, and one part of why people were instantly hostile to Assault Horizon.

I just needed to be cleared up on the Usea stuff and I guess the Ulysses stuff. I've only played:

5
Zero
X
6
Assault Horizon
Legacy

A short bolted on experience - WTF Sony!

Ace combat uses a fucking first person cockpit view at the very least let us just do that?? We don't need helmet tracking missles.

Holy shit that's two major games now that are now coming with VR experiences attached to the game instead of just being another control option

I'm gonna wait for some official confirmation, but that wouldn't be a good sign for PSVR at all ;(

with this news and biohazard 7 removing all full-body animations and transitions in vr, my excitement for the platform is circling the drain :(

http://www.shacknews.com/article/97...-a-new-trailer-at-playstation-experience-2016

I absolutely love the Ace Combat series (especially 0 and 5), and I can't explain how pumped up I am for Ace Combat 7. The new trailer that dropped today at PlayStation Experience 2016 was only a minute long, but it showed some of the beautiful airplanes we've come to expect from the series.
Ace Combat 7 is a direct sequel to Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation so we'll get to see more of the Estovakians and Emmerians, and hopefully even see Yuktobania, Osea, and Belka again!

And the Razgriz as well, hopefully.

What does that mean?

I want to play the game without vr and don't have to live with any compromises because of that.

That hasn't been the case for like 8 years. Ace Combat 6 was XBox 360 exclusive and Assault Horizon was multiplatform.

Of the 12 Ace Combat games 9 have been only on PlayStation platforms.

Air/Ace Combat - PS1
Ace Combat 2 - PS1
Ace Combat 3 - PS1
Ace Combat 4 - PS2
Ace Combat 5 - PS2
Ace Combat 0 - PS2
Ace Combat X - PSP
Ace Combat 6 - 360
Ace Combat Xi - iOS
Ace Combat JS - PSP
Ace Combat AH - PS3/360
Ace Combat AHL - 3DS
Ace Combat Inf - PS3

Let's not beat around the bush though, the reason Ace Combat 6 was on 360 and exclusive was because it was one of many series of games that were considered "PlayStation" that Microsoft spent money on to try and bring players over with.

Direct sequel? Was 6 even on ps3?

He doesn't actually know that he's just generalising it looks like, he's just saying it's a sequel to the last main game.

Is Sony funding this? I'm surprised Namco is going full-hog on an AC game again with CGI and stuff.

(actually wish they would rein in that shit :p)

yea this was certainly my favorite thing from this year's PSX.
Really excited to play it, and try out on VR as well.

Incredibly Naive
VR was never going to be the full game or even a cockpit mode, too many resources would be needed, and would need different design.

Uh, didn't expect a direct sequel.

Amazing to me that people still haven't grasped this.

Very disappointed you cant play the whole game in VR.

very glad that is the fact, name a vr full game that.....actually works out well so far D:
I am honestly not comfortable with this franchise taking a risk that big. If I were in the dev's shoes, this is the most I'd settle for.

Thank god this game isn't full vr, whew.

Considering the game's designer team is now the B team (some senior team members are no longer around. i.e. designer Isaki or other aircraft artists etc. etc.), rather than the old A team and VR's difficult/tricky development workflow.
On top of that, a good chunk of this game was built in Singapore.
This is essentially the best outcome we could have asked for. Given the circumstance and development resource, this game could have ended up far, far worse. What we are seeing right now is more or less a miracle.

Hearing it closer to classic AC is great. Hopefully like 5/0 in terms of feel, Inf feels too twitchy and AH was just terrible. As far as the chatter hope they strike closer to the semi-realistic of AC4 with narrative bits in.

You ma' man!

I played all the ACs but I really loved Assault Horizon too even though it was a light departure. I like how it was so grounded in reality for a change. I had alot of fun. The graphic Fidelity was out of this world. I bought it again for the PC when it came out and played it with a joystick. Had so much fun.

The original trailer will always have a special place in my heart I never get tired of watching it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN6DHx-XME8

The soundtrack is far and away the best part of Assault Horizon. The only good part, maybe.

Even if the combat was decent though, I could not endure the cut-scenes. Awful.

As a lover of Ace Combat 5 and Zero, this game caters my interests completly.

Being an exclusive would probably mean I will play on my friends ps4. Not going to buy one only for this game, as much as I loved 5 and Zero.
Or maybe I do like with those 2 games and buy them years later with a second hand ps4 lol

Do we know what the main team members worked on previously?
