The Last Guardian: Review Thread

Exactly what I expected! lol. (One review 10, another one 4)
By my logic it means it'll get to the same levels of Ico and SoTC (the impressions helped with that too :p)

Jim Sterling shows once again how miserable of a person he is. The guy is soo impulsive with his decisions on games it's impossible to ever take his word on anything.

Also can GAF stop throwing one video of frame drops to constitute everyone's potential gaming experience with it?

Jesus fucking Christ people really leave their common sense at home at times.

Well, they're trying to meet a deadline.

The disconnect with reviewers is that they think they're controlling Trico, so a jump command from them should translate 1:1 to an entirely independent thing in a game.

Why is that?

Why is it that if you can not solve a physics-based puzzle then you accept that gravity as an outside force within the game has caused that, and try to solve it over and over,

while an AI which you have indirect input over is labeled frustrating?

They know they aren't controlling him. They are commenting on how finicky he can be.

Posted similar concepts here.

This has nothing to do with them meeting a deadline. This is commentary around how this ruined the enjoyment of the game for some of them. Spending hours getting him to just listen to you can make for a frustrating experience.

You always get that in these threads

Disappointing to hear Team Ico essentially skipped an entire console generation to bring us a game that's getting such a mixed reception.

82 metacritic over 38 reviews is definetly a very positive average, 70-75 is mixed.

And btw all the lower scores dragging down the meta are all down to the importance that reviewers gave to some technical issues, not about the game itself and its key goal of delivering an emotional journey between kid and Trico.

Edit: 83 with 39 reviews right now

DF is out.
dropse down to 20fps on Base ps4, performance seems rather bad.
Only version to run without problems is ps4pro in 1080p mode.

Not good enough for a 60€ game.

77 on OpenCritic with 36 reviews
83 on Metacritic with 39 reviews

I never knew Metacritic's weight system could account for such a difference in scores.

Gee I don't agree with Sterling but that's taking it far and kinda misconstructing him isn't it ? He's not a fan of ICO nor this, it's fine.

I'm more concerned of people riling up because it somehow is not getting scores like FFXV and I don't know where this is coming from ? I'm enjoying both immensely right now

His complaints sound legitimate. This isn't going to be a game for everyone.

God damn. None of the footage I have watched shows that, but I guess that it is just sporadic. That is worse than Blight Town.

I've played it on PS4, had few FPS drops but nothing THAT BIG. I've talked to other reviewers who played on Pro... and it seems like it's "normal version" issue only.

My prediction was 82 (metacritic), so it is exactly within my expectations. Hyped! I know these type of tech/control issues don't affect me as much as they do for some.

Steady 30fps is an improvement for many games released in this gen. Lets not act like TLG is some special case.

True, but not nearly to the extent of the previous gen, where even modern classics such as TLOU performed significantly under 30. A lot of titles at least juggle around 30 most of the time now, I played plenty low 20's PS3 titles. Not to excuse TLG, however, it is a legitimate issue.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

The fact Jim doesn't like it is good for me. He hates a lot of games I love including Ico, Vanquish, etc. He's one of those reviewers who I actually read because when he doesn't like something, a lot of times it piques my interest. He also does enjoy a lot of games I do as well but he really hates some games I love lol

Pro modes should offer improvements, not the baseline experience.

"Steady 30fps" shouldn't be an improvement.

The alternative would be having a PS4 that only does that, instead of people with the option at least getting a consistent framerate. This obviously has nothing to do with the pro coming out.

I'm not a fan of the guy but lmao at this, because a review?

Oh man, GAF review threads always deliver.

Very disappointing to hear about the frame rate issues on the OG PS4 as that is where I will be playing it.

It's scored about where I was expecting it to.

More 10's and 9's than I was expecting looking at the first page.

It's pretty obvious imo whether someone following TLG would like this game or not.

Another 4/10, now from iDigital Time

Opencritic at 77 with 32 reviews

Did not expect this tbh

There are no levels, chapters, major cutscenes or anything else to let you know you’re on the right path and making progress. The first hour of gameplay looks identical to the tenth.

Some complains about the camera... 4/10 lol.

They would probably give a 4/10 to ICO and SotC as well I guess, or lower.

I mean, I don't really care about reviews nowadays, but people shouldn't just look at the scores but actually read the reviews themselves. If someone gives a game a 2/10 with reasons you don't think would make a game a 2/10, and other reviews give a game 9/10 with reasons that you think are important, or viceversa, that's what matters more imo.

A lot of people just don't like this kind of game. Nowadays you need an expansive, open world, RPG-ish action game to get to 90+.

10 years for this?
I'll buy it on a price cut, maybe when it's around $5, they don't deserve more than that.
