Simon Parkin giving it a 10/10.

Interesting how the 4s and 5s out of 10 aren't showing up on Metacritic but they are on Opencritic

So the game really has a 72ish average. Metacritic seems to be omitting more and more reviews lately and they're turning into Rotten Tomatoes.

Opencritic definitely the way to go now
lmao...did you just ignore the 10's that came in as well?

Way to go to write your own narrative their buddy...

It's the man not counting the real scores! That's the truth!

Final Fantasy XIII has 83...

Then your logic should apply to every critically acclaimed game out there. You're essentially using FFXIII as a reason why scores shouldn't matter so it should apply to everything. But then that'd completely ruin the narrative you're trying to push.

It isn't.
But some people have been very influenced by "modern" game scores to see it.

I think this is counterbalanced by the sheer volume of media for games.

Lots of lets plays and word of mouth online will definitely garner positive feedback and recommendations. We didn't have this with older gens.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Yikes, those are some disappointing reviews. I was honestly expecting 90+ for this one. I loved Ico and SOTC and was expecting Last Guardian to join them as a true classic. Metacritic is even lower than FFXV (which is a train wreck) and it may drop into the high 70s once more reviews roll in. Really disappointing after such a long wait.

My last ounce of interest in the PS4 is gone (this could have been the game to rekindle my interest)

does anyone need me posting the suicide hotline or we good after a few 10's rolled in?

spoke to soon.

Has the Time 10/10 been posted?

"Masterpiece"
yea, it probably holds a lot of weight. But there's also some really low scores like 4/10 that bring it down. It won't go much further from 82 now. Either up or down one point.

I knew going in it would be divisive, just glad the game is getting more praise than anything. It really a genre/theme not touched on enough in the industry and hopefully this gives it some exposure.

Exactly the opposite:

53 reviews vs 37

edit: it seems average score on OpenCritic soon will be >80

I never went into the FF thread, but seeing the 84 average, I assumed that it was incredibly positive for fans.

I think anyone looking at TLG's scores will see the same. The overriding opinion is that these games were destined to be hellish and troubled, but its far from it

I don't expect modern reviewers to understand Ueda's vision so I'm not really perturbed by certain negative reviews.

You do know that Metacritic doesn't count EVERY outlet out there, right?

While the texture is organic, beneath the loveable frame, Trico is inescapably an artificial intelligence, one to whom you can only make suggestions rather than explicit directions. This, surely, has been the root of The Last Guardian’s development troubles (as indeed it has been in countless other games that have replied upon companion AI). There are few frustrations in the medium as raw as those experienced when you know exactly what you are supposed to be doing to progress through the scene, only to be stymied by a stubborn or confused AI. The Last Guardian has these moments (particularly in its latter, water-based stages) but they are rare, especially for the patient player who, rather than screaming at the beast to run hither and thither, issues clear, sporadic instructions. The pleasure when boy and beast work as one is as tactile and satisfying as the click and yield of a key in a door.

I think this is key.

But it’s far more meaningfully told through the action, which shows an unspoken, healing bond forged in real time by two underdogs together facing otherwise insurmountable odds. This theme alone would be enough to mark The Last Guardian out as almost unique in games. But it’s the execution that marks The Last Guardian and its creator out as singularly brilliant. Here is an exquisite gem, the brightest in Ueda’s enviable clutch.

joke post anyone? if not... ufff.

With the amount of technical issues with the base PS4 I honestly can not take anyone who gives it a 10/10 seriously.

I really think reviews need to at the least review with the base PS4.

Thread has actually been pretty mild mate, a few people debating how important frame rate is, what 80's score means today versus yesterday, and in general a regular review thread. I think the days of people getting banned left and right and "losing it" are kinda over.

There's been enough games that people adore that don't score a 90+

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
expected. the game was going to be divisive from the start unfortunately considering how times have changed since ICO and SOTC.

Not only that, but technical issues can hamper one's experience...even if people overlooked it in Ico and SOTC's case(i think SOTC basically ran at 20 to15fps at all times) they were not going to do so in this age.

It isn't.
But some people have been very influenced by "modern" game scores to see it.

I've been seeing the "here's the modern review scale and old school review scale" joke since I started reading the internet in the late 90's. I suppose things *could* have been different in the 80's and earlier 90's, but I have never once seen a game in the 5's get called or be acknowledged as 'Average', nor have I ever seen anything below that get called something other than trash.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Well, Digital Trends hasn't been counted on MC since 2015, and iDigital Times has never been on the site.

I dont know some people seem pretty upset with an 82 lol

Sounds like its flaws are similar to those of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus and that if you liked those games you'll like this one.

maybe because they weren't that big of an issue to the reviewer?

I can't take anyone downgrading a game severely because it slowed up at time serious. Or how anyone couldn't adjust to controls in like 30 minutes of playing. Or how a game designed around mimicking a real life animal would be annoying that it doesn't listen to your every command.

Opinions...

A lot of great reviews, and quite a lot of reviewers who are lost on TLG.

I get that people like the game.. but there are some big faults in the game..

- Control scheme. Use the same button for a lot of actions. And leaving lots of buttons on the Dualshock unused.

- Really bad camera. The camera is a pain .. even if you speed it up via the options it will be bad. It is a pain to control.. the camera was my biggest enemy in the game.

- Toriko/Trico. He responds fine most of the time.. but sometimes he is more than annoying.. Jumping back instead of forward.. not doing what he is supposed to do, because he stood in the wrong place.

Those three things combined ruined the enjoyment I had with this game. I like the core game.. but those things tore every ounce of enjoyment out of my body. I actually just wanted the game to end. It wasn't fun to play.
