Is the game good?

Bought MGR: Revengeance a few days ago and I'm almost done with it and enjoyed it a lot. I liked Bayonetta 1 too. I only ever played a bit of DMC 1 a lifetime ago but can't recall anything.

Short answer: Yes. It belongs in the library of every action gaming fan.

Long answer: The game features what is arguably the deepest combat in an action game to date. There are few games that match the action sandbox that is the Bloody Palace mode. In terms of the campaign, there are some significant pacing and backtracking issues, as well as some archaic puzzle and platforming sequences, which is why many consider DMC4 to be a diamond in the rough, but it's definitely a gem worth owning. The SE has released with Turbo mode, LDK mode, and 3 all new characters to play around with, as well as a revamped economy for quicker leveling. It's also on sale now on Steam for like $12, I think.

Someone said something funny in a recent thread that the curse of V has made FFXV, MGSV and SFV (arguably) unfinished or disappointed products.

My first thought after seeing that was "hopefully Capcom won't name it DMCV then," hahaha.

They can call it Devils May Cry, like Silent Hills, and make the s look like a 5.

And Happy Holidays, guys. It's been a slow year for DMC, but we're almost there.

I haven't talked a lot of DMC4SE this year because I kinda lost my enthusiasm by not being able to play it for much of last year, and I didn't really get my enthusiasm back. I feel guilty about it because seyavesh lamented the lack of DMC4SE talk. I can't promise anything for the next year, but I will try to contribute to the community however I can in ways other than just talking about DMC5. That's my end of the year confession, lol.

Love you all.

Yeah, Happy Holidays everyone. I wish you all a great time.

Hopefully DMC series will have much much better year in 2017 as well.
Wondering if Itsuno would make another tweet and give us a little bit of update.

Happy Holidays everyone. Hope all is well.

The game will get announced next year, and it has a good chance of being great. Even it's DMC2's long lost brother we can always play mission 12 and bloody palace in DMC4 for the 12423233223535th time anyway. This game is never gonna die lol.

Need some advice , got a decent laptop for christmas , i wanna pick up 4se for PC as i want to utilise training mode to get good (am a ps4 scrub atm) , just wanna know if the spec requirements for 4se are high. The laptops got 8gbs of ram with an intel pentium 4450u 2.1Ghz cpu, if that isnt good enough i could always pick up vanilla 4 since iv heard that it can run on a toaster but it isnt on sale funnily enough.

The requirements are really high for some reason and the game is poorly optimized compared to vanilla DMC4. But if you have a decent graphics card alongside those specs you mentioned then it should perform okay. You might have to adjust a couple of the graphical options and mod out God Rays, depth of field and/or the motion blur, to ensure steady 60fps.

Is there any benefit of getting the Steam version of this over PS4, like any really interesting mods, or better performance, or are they basically identical?

There's not much of a difference; the main thing would be whether the couple of existing visual mods (including the aforementioned removal of the occasionally-intrusive additional post-processing effects added for SE) and/or cheat tables/trainers which allow for enemy swapping + spawning, Doppelganger, ingame character swapping, training mode, boss rush etc. interest you at all. It does make things a lot more convenient if you plan on replaying it a lot and want to skip the more annoying non-combat aspects, but for the most part you're missing out on very little by playing on console.

If you have a good PC get the PC version. No reason to get PS4 version unless your PC cant handle it. Mods, etc. I wish I had the bloody palace mods on PS4...

Training and Boss Rush are things that the game could've benefited from greatly. You can get those through mods and trainers on PC.

can someone point me to a link with trainers, boss rush or other mods and how to implement them?

much appreciated.

Also regarding dat Itsuno tweet, I think he was hoping for the E32016 announcement because he was somewhat active with this twitter account till then and it also matches the rumors we heard previously. Here's hoping he posts something DMC related in the coming weeks.

Apparently these guys (Red Fly Studios) tried to pitch a DMC project to Capcom. Who knows what it was, though. Seems like it was for a Wii port of DMC4, going by the use of DMC4 Dante, associated animations, the environments, and the UI. The use of Marionettes is a bit curious, though.

It's a bit surprising that this has been on YouTube since January and absolutely no one caught on to it before.

This is just a prototype, seemingly part of the pitch for the project they made to Capcom. It's just to convince the execs "DMC on Wii can work, and we can do it". It's like when id made a Super Mario Bros. 3 prototype level to pitch to Nintendo. It's not part the actual game or port they would have made. They likely would have started development from scratch (for a new game) or using DMC4 assets and code (for a DMC4 port). Maybe DMC(4) on Wii would have been crap, but it would have been different from this.

I think the reason we never got a Wii port of DMC4 (internal or outsourced) was that Capcom wasn't interested in one or didn't think the time, money, resources and manpower needed wasn't worth it . The fact they only ever published small games like Zack & Wiki and Spyborgs, and ports of Monster Hunter, instead of ports of their bigger titles like DMC4, RE5 and SF4, for it speaks to that.

After an hour of fiddling with the game , its config file and a hex editor ive managed to get it running smoothly on the laptop. Its like the devs forgot what optimization is.

They didn't forget. Devs that were in charge of 4se had no idea what optimization is to begin with. Their own games run at single digit framerates.

Managed to download some trainers and ive been having a blast using practice mode, i feel like i can do a whole lot more now that enemies dont die. Windows 10 built in capture device makes it really easy to record clips which is also pretty cool. Looking back at some of the basic combo vids i made a while ago im sure that i can do much better.

I thought this was interesting. DMC4 originally came out in February 2008 and from then till now, Yakuza (RGG) series have had 10 home console releases (8 of which are completely new games). That's just really puts into perspective, just how long has it been since we've had a new DMC release.

IF, DMC5 comes reveals itself in E3 2017 that means it'll probably come out in 2018, the next year.

Another game sequel that took 10 years to come out lol.

Yeah it's really crazy when you think about it. I was 14-15 years old when DMC4 came out. Feels like a lifetime ago really.

Speaking of DMC5 actually, here is what Kobayashi had to say about 2017 in the 4Gamer interview.

"2017 will be the year of all kinds of preparations"

Hopefully that means something for DMC series.

If you want to hear something even more crazy: More time has passed since DMC4 released (3256 days) than the series' entire public existence from the announcement of DMC1 in November 15, 2000 to DMC4 first released in January 31, 2008 (2634 days). 622 days, to be exact, meaning almost two full years more. By E3 it will be two full years.

Anyway, I don't think it's a coincidence that we're seeing so many major titles from Capcom all in a similar time frame instead of being more spread out. Capcom admitted they had a delayed responce to the current gen, and they were busy for much of 2013 and parts of 2014 restructering.

That and I doubt Capcom even have the money to fund a full DMC game. Back when Capcom had money and made DMC4 it was still lacking in areas.

That's why I'm expecting partial exclusivity with Sony.

And if they do, I hope it's like with Shovel Knight where we get to fight Kratos as a bonus boss. Or even better- Bloodborne bosses.

^^
Actually, have Capcom released any big games this gen without having some sort of deal with bigger companies going on? RE7 is the only thing that comes to mind and even that has some sort of timed VR exclusivity thing going on with Sony.

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if DMC5 was an exclusive title or at least a timed exclusive one.

I think another reason for that late start might've been them not having that much faith in the 8th gen consoles. Jim Sterling said that about SE and other big Japanese publishers in one of his shows and I think he was right.

Also, yeah the fact that DMC series have been more dead than alive is really mind boggling.

Nah, but this is the first time in a long time in which Capcom didn't release/announce a bunch of titles for a generation. They took time to get away from outsourcing and started focusing on internal development at the start of this gen. Plus, given the direction of RE7 I'm sure the developers took a lot of time to figure out what they wanted to do with these franchises first before making something.

I don't know. Maybe they weren't as negative about 8th gen as SE, but I don't think they were that keen on it either. Remember how Capcom was during the beginning of 7th gen. But this gen even before Panta Rhei went to shit, the only game Capcom had announced for PS4 was a F2P dungeon randomizer.

When was the earliest team Itsuno could have begun pre production planning for DMC? DMC4SE?
I think pre production stuff probably started during 4SE or even before that but contrary to what Itsuno said, it wasn't decided whether they would actually make it before they saw the sales of 4SE. Hence that tweet in January which is probably when they got the green-light for full development.

In this case I'm inclined to believe Reuben over Itsuno. I'm sorry lord Itsuno, but you do say some not-so-true stuff if it means Capcom saving face.

Still betting we get DMC5 soon. Honestly I could see E3 2017, and it being a january release. Capcom seems to wanna get back on having less compeition for their releases which is smart.

Hopefully they structure it similarly to how RE7 was. Reveal the game at E3. Then have the HD rereleases of 1-3. Don't think they would release them individually. But all of them for 40 would be a good deal.

Yeah you're right. They weren't over the top positive about this gen, but after seeing Marvel vs Capcom Infinite pop up out of nowhere with gameplay to showoff I'm starting to believe that maybe they have more games in development than most people(including myself) think.

As far as the Itsuno stuff, idk the things he said around the time of DMC4SE seemed genuine. I don't see any reason for him to lie about the circumstances around a $25 remaster.

One problem (Sesha actually brought this up in another thread) might be that DMC5 will most likely have to compete with GoW PS4. That game is not coming out this year and judging by the history of past releases in GoW series, Q1 2018 seems like the most likely candidate.

They will no doubt be different but to the casual eyes they both will look like melee games in which you hack through enemies with a sword/axe so the similarities are there. And this is an absolute fact that DMC5 won't be able to compete with production values of GoW PS4 (especially when it comes to animation and visuals). So GoW could potentially affect the sales of a possible DMC5 if they are released close to each other.

When I look at MvCI, for the most part I see Marvel (and Disney) trying to fix their mistakes in gaming scene. I don't think that's a good game to look at if you are trying to judge how Capcom is doing and what they might have in store for us.

I have no doubt that he was telling the truth when he said that if DmC was successful enough, then it would've replaced DMC entirely. Or that he was happy that the game turned out the way it did. I believe him on those accounts as well. But what Reuben said about Capcom trying to test the water with DMC4SE and gauging interest made much more sense to me than Itsuno saying that company isn't looking at 4SE to determine DMC's future. I think the reason he said that about 4SE was due to that little backlash they had with the (incorrect) news about Itsuno saying that you have to buy 4SE (physical version in Japan) and do the paper survey that is inside the game's case, in-order to let us know if and what you want from DMC5 or something along those lines. He and Capcom most likely didn't want to have another one of those backlash situations at their hands so he said that the future won't be decided by 4SE to avoid any further backlash from fans.

I know this is starting to go into conspiracy theories and tin foil hat stuff, but that's what I genuinely think happened. Especially when you think about how it has already been a year and a half since 4SE came out and Capcom still don't have anything to show (or say) for the next DMC. Even though Itsuno claimed that the future of series isn't dependent on 4SE, meaning that they should've started working on the next entry even before 4SE was out.

Capcom has been doing that for their other games too since, only exception I can think of is SFV, which again was rushed to release. Take MvCi and RE7, both came out of the blue (RE7 did have the kitchen demo shown much earlier) same kinda goes for the new dead rising. Obviously Capcom doesn't want the long wait most companies do for their games from announcement to release for the fear of hype dying out, which makes perfect sense.

To me DMC5 had pre-production done by Jan 2016, which is when Itsuno had that tweet indicating him working on a project. E3 2017 seems perfect time to announce the game and have it release Jan/Feb ala RE7 schedule.
