BioShock Infinite is like playing some homeless guy's vivid imagination
Looking for a good co-op game that my girlfriend and I can play. Something more casual and easy-going than hard. Thoughts?

Even though I'm done with the sale, there are still lots of gifts to buy people on my friends list.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Voting will open tomorrow for the fourth annual NeoGAF Steam GOTY Awards. Voting is simple, just follow these steps:
  • Choose your top 5 favorite games that released on Steam in 2016. See below for official eligibility
  • Award your favorite game (#1 choice) 5 points, your next (#2 choice) 4 points, and so on.
  • (Optional) write a few sentances explaining why you think your top choice deserves to win
  • (Optional) decide on your three entries for the DLC of the Year award and Early Access GOTY award (see below)
  • Multiple votes for the same game on a single ballot will be disqualified. If you list the same game multiple times, the vote with the highest point value will be used and all other votes for that game will be discarded.
  • If you have any questions about a particular game's eligibility, ask in the Steam thread and we should be able to help you.
  • Modbot is not eligible to vote due to the fact that he is a bot.
  • PM everything to jshackles
Here is a sample entry you can copy/paste into your PM:
GOTY:
(5 Points) - Game 1
(4 Points) - Game 2
(3 Points) - Game 3
(2 Points) - Game 4
(1 Point) - Game 5

I think Game 1 should win GOTY because...

DLC:
(3 Points) - DLC 1
(2 Points) - DLC 2
(1 Point) - DLC 3

I think DLC 1 should win DLC of the Year because...

EA:
(3 Points) - EA Game 1
(2 Points) - EA Game 2
(1 Point) - EA Game 3

I think EA Game 1 should win Early Access GOTY because...
Voting will close on January 16th at 4:00PM PST

Here is the selection criteria for each category. If you choose a game that doesn't meet these guidelines, your vote for that game will be disqualified.

This award will be given to the best game released on Steam in 2016 as chosen by our community.

  • Game must have have been fully released on Steam in 2016. Early Access games and DLC are not eligible in this category.
  • Re-releases, ports, and remasters are only eligible if the original source material was not previously available on Steam. For example, games such as Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster or Ty the Tasmanian Tiger are eligible because those games were not previously available on Steam. Skyrim Special Edition and Bioshock Remastered are not eligible because they are both remasters of existing Steam games.
  • Episodic games are only eligible if their final episode was released in 2016. For example, The Walking Dead: New Frontier is not eligible, because only the first two episodes released in 2016. However, King's Quest is eligible even though it came out in 2015 because it's final episode was released in 2016.

We are also soliciting optional nominations for our new category: "DLC of the Year". This award will be given to the best piece of DLC as chosen by our community.

  • The DLC must have been released on Steam in 2016. It can be for any Steam game regardless of the year the game was released. It must have it's own store page on Steam.
  • Individual episodes of episodic games are not eligible. For example, individual episodes of Hitman are not eligible.
  • DLC for Free to Play games, such as Fishing Planet - Monster Night Pack are eligible.

This year we are recognizing outstanding Early Access games by soliciting optional nominations for "Early Access Game of the Year" with the following criteria:

  • The game must have been released on Steam Early Access in 2016. If the game left Early Access before the end of 2016, it is not eligible in this category.
  • As this is the first year we're doing this award, all current Early Access games released before 2017 are eligible as long as they had at least one content update in 2016.

Let me know if this sounds amicable to everyone. I think it should cover just about everything that happened on Steam in 2016, but I'd like your guy's input.

Remember, voting isn't open until tomorrow.

This was the first sale i really took advantage of.
(Im new to PC as of jan 2016)

I bought 8 games and got gifted a free one from a cool dude here on GAF. (Thanx for FFIX!)

That sounds great! Seems like a nice compromise for EA stuff and gives a place to recognize great DLC/expansions. Can't wait.

Vote RimWorld

Thanks. I think it's a good compromise too, because it gives us a better picture of "here's what we enjoyed on Steam last year". I'm hoping we have enough participation to have some good competition in each category.

I'm excited to see what you guys come up with!

When are we getting a Windows Store game of the year category?

You should absolutely buy Doom 1 and 2. Doom 1 has some amazing level design (although I'm not fond of episode 2) and 2 has the best megaWADs. That said if you're really pressed for cash, download the shareware of Doom 1 and play it though gzDoom as the first episode was the best one.

I technically have both Dooms already via Doom 3 BFG Edition. But apparently they can't be modded?

Edit: Looks like I'm wrong! I thought I read a while back the BFG Edition couldn't be modded.

Just finished up The Walking Dead - 400 Days for my 50th perfect Steam game. Feelin' accomplished, man.

Mind you, knowing how Telltale worked, I felt a lot better just picking any option or staying silent for things cause it wouldn't make much difference. Still, I think I got a "positive" ending since everyone voted the same way in that final decision.

A bit of a year-end recap of Path of Exile over at GGG. I don't play the game a ton but I really respect how they handle their F2P model and the game they make. I'm glad it's doing so well.

Can I vote No Man's Sky and Street Fighter V in the early access category?

I'll have a look at RimWorld and Lethis (already got Factorio, Banished, and Prison Architect). Thanks!

Though I thought I saw a gamedevmaker-style game and does anyone know if Big Pharma is any good?

RimWorld is FANTASTIC. Great premise and gameplay depth. I always wanted to get into Dwarf Fortress, but the ASCII presentation was just a bridge too far. RimWorld offers a DF-lite experience that is actually approachable. Not as deep as DF, but no slouch either...likely the next in line for the genre. On a random note, has one of the best OST of the year.

On Big Pharma, it's interesting but more of a puzzle game than a management game.

Okay guys, real talk.

How much choice is there in Fata Morgana, if any? Because I'm not a "kinetic novel" kinda guy and if that's all you're talking up I need to know.

There are choices, 8 endings and a bunch of dead ends.
(If you played Steins;Gate, it's a similar game - single main route with some small offshoots).

I list here some good stuff that I have grabbed during these sales:

I suggest you check them out. Both have been a lot better than expected so far. B&B is incomplete and may always be, but still.

Edit: Actually, there are more good games which end up being good.

I like Trials of Azra, Rusty Lake Hotel, and both potential removed games (Judge Dredd: Countdown Sector 106, and Adventure Time: The Secret Of The Nameless Kingdom). All of these are a lot more polished than the price would hint at.
