Lmao. 14 years with these garbage EJ motors. Can't/won't even release a new motor for the STI. They honestly don't give a fuck.

I'm surprised that they haven't tried to wring even a little bit more power out of it this gen. I'm guessing it's a reliability or fuel economy issue or both.

Fuck oil changes ! Go to oil changers. It's almost the same money as buying the oil and filter and the do it in 15 minutes.

But you should YouTube uh.. .. try changing a starter and see if that looks comfortable to you. If so, you can save a lot of money with that level of work.

I prefer to have my car in the hands of minimally paid techs as little as possible, so I do my own oil changes. Not to mention I enjoy doing it as it's the perfect time to inspect my car while I have it up. Also when you factor in synthetic oil, you can do it cheaper yourself.

Picked up my Jag from the dealer finally. It was a broken vent clip that kept making noise on the passenger side. It's such an uncommon part that it took a while to receive it. The car is much quieter now apart from some normal creaks here and there, which I'm going to handle myself. I'm going to lightly spray a silicone lubricant anywhere where two plastic parts meet and rub.

They also updated my software and the infotainment system runs even faster than before. But what I thought was really cool was they swapped out my rearview camera for an all new one. My original one was having some screen tearing issues and stutters. Turns out this is a known issue on early model XFs like mine, and the entire processor is mounted to the camera itself, which makes it a simple swap not requiring any coding. But what's so cool is that this new comes with on-screen parking graphics (which is standard on 2017s now). So I got a 2017 camera retrofitted into my 2016. Nice little surprise there.

In any case, Jaguar Corp has been extremely supportive of the case. If I really want to get a new XF, they will give it to me. Going through a lemon law would be a bad look, as it will kill the value of this car once it heads to auction for the bank. Or often times they give out a few months of reimbursements. So that may be another option on the table.

So right now, major thumbs up for Jaguar USA.

It's good to hear Jaguar is taking care of you. Is this typical of luxury car manufacturers? At least that's what I imagine part of what you get from paying for a luxury vehicle.

That's probably for the best. I just cant be arsed anymore when I could sit in my car and let them do it. The one botched oil change I ever had was actually at a nissan dealership on a new sentra. They had to replace the engine. I suppose if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.

I do all other off warranty work myself but the oil change I probably do 3 out of four at an oil changers these days.

I remember when I was so excited about the BRZ and was sure I was going to get one. Then it was going to be a So-Cal AP1 S2000 likely with No Love's help and then I ended up with a my E46 in 2012 after trying out 20+ cars.

Nice, I love E46s. I think if it were only up to me I would be going after an AP2 or Miata, but this will be a car mostly for my wife and we would need to fit a child seat in the back (it works apparently) on occasion. She has never had a sports car before or much less driven one, but we have been going to cars and coffee together and she wants in on the hobby. I think the BRZ would be perfect for all that.

They depreciate pretty hard. I think a lot of people fall in love with them but quickly realize its not that great as a practical car. I got mine (2014 limited) with less than 20,000 on the clock for $22k CPO.

Yeah not too worried about practicality with this one. I have to decide if the 2017 updates are worth it or not. So far, I have only driven a 17.

I sometimes envy the life of normies... I was at Best Buy last week and a goddamn neckbeard got into a heated discussion about FFXV's microstutters on the PS4 Pro with a guy who was planning to buy a PS4 Pro and FFXV after a BB sales guy basically closed the deal.

Funny enough, my asshole buddy got annoyed to shit with the guy and walked up to them and told the neckbeard to fnck off... as in he literally said: "Fnck off you little shit, go back to Reddit or your basement!" I burst out laughing when he did this and I thought there was gonna be a fight so I started pulling my buddy out of the huddle, but of course it's a damn neckbeard... there was no chance in hell there was gonna be a fight haha.

But anyway, I'm getting too off-topic so here's my Miata after it snowed a little bit earlier today:

And yes, it does snow in Texas lol.

LOL. Wow.

And yeah, Florida decided not to participate in the snow. But we are a bit chilly (58!) with bursts of rain. It's pretty shit outside.

It's good to hear Jaguar is taking care of you. Is this typical of luxury car manufacturers? At least that's what I imagine part of what you get from paying for a luxury vehicle.

Nope. BMW sucks at this. When E90/E92 3-series issues were plaguing the customers, many wanted out of the cars and BMW didn't really care. Cadillac is also not great about it, as I have a neighbor who has a brand new Escalade with some weird transmission issues (which Cadillac has even admitted there's version 2 hardware in 2017 models) and they are telling him he needs to take it to the dealer numerous times before they take it back. Why would Cadillac want to do this? A lemon stamp will destroy the value of the Escalade.

Audi is also pretty bad about taking back cars, especially when the earlier 2.0Ts were failing and even when the earlier 3.0 Supercharged motors (like the one in my 2012) were losing oil constantly and blowing through jammed thermostats before 10K miles.

Jaguar seems to have the common sense to know that if I actually spent $700-800 for a lemon lawyer, the car would be branded with a "lemon buyback" stamp on the CarFax, when, let's be honest...the car is NOT an actual lemon. It just makes a few creaks and some noises inside. Instead of taking the car back as a lemon and losing a ton of value because of the CarFax, they're better off acquiring the lease off of me and taking it to auction or having my dealer buy it.

That is why I believe on the follow up call they will ask if I'm satisfied and then possibly offer me a reimbursement or another car.

Car seats will fit but it will be a pain if it's a daily thing. I have one kid in a booster (5) and one still in a full seat (3) and we put both of them back there with the wife in the passenger seat and drove around the block.

It works in an emergency but is far from ideal. I have done one kid and no front passenger a few times and it's fine, I worry more about them trashing the interior then anything. They love riding in it.

I haven't driven a 2017 to comment on the suspension/gearing/hp boost but I hate the new gauge cluster, old one is much cleaner - although you don't get as much info.

I would like the brembos... but I really have no complaints on the brakes. Some say they are a little weak if you are auto-xing or tracking it but I haven't really had a chance to do that yet.

If the stars align I am taking it to the tail of the dragon next week should be fun. :)

But can it run Crysis?

Seriously though, no wonder why Audi's MMI is super fast compared to BMW and MB. My dream car interface is a blend of Audi's responsiveness, MB's screen layout and BMW's iDrive control.
.

The GPU could yes. If it was attached to a decent CPU etc. TBH I only know about the GPU chip and screen tech. I have no clue what else is in there. One thing that's become apparent though from long term use is that a really smart set of people figured out the long term ergonomics - you can do everything with two hands basically all the time (except on full turn lock) and functions like "go back" and "play/activate" etc are not only rational after a week or so, you start to understand why the surfaces and actions are the way they are - slide, click, turn etc, all have ergonomic UI meaning withing a decision tree. It's really amazingly well thought out.

However the software is still buggy and lord help you if you rent or borrow one (my experience of BMW iDrive, for the most part) and don't have time to become accustomed. It's still more logical in flow than the 5 series I've been renting for a decade, but it's just as hierarchical and complex.

I never got a chance to use the Merc stuff except in test drives. And the Caddy stuff was ahem, limited in the rental vehicles at least. And goddamn those pretend silver/haptic buttons.

Audi forums are a black hole of info. I'm desperate to find out if there's a meaningful firmware/software update coming. I want a "free" car upgrade like Alpha next time I go to the dealer.

Also, I'm at 4.5k miles, and I'm freaking out about oil change. Schedule is 10k. I am not supposed to touch the oil until 10k. Great on paper but terrifying for a car owner of my vintage. I put windshield fluid in it last week just to feel manly.

I have ZERO regrets and picked the best possible car for me, but Iprobably should have test driven the Jag. But Mrs. Stinkles would NOT have entertained it, and I could only afford the XE.

Edit. Ooooohhhh....

Nice. Electric alternative to the new QX30/Merc whatever that is.

Glad it worked out for you. Good on Jaguar to step up and go the extra mile for your satisfaction.

In theory, would it be fine to ignore any hiccups, relating to the luxury goodies? Work on the engine is important of course, but I wouldn't feel the need to fix any superfluous items.

I decided to take the Lincoln. I did a bad job caring for my first car, so hopefully I can treat my second car with proper respect.

Probably, depending on what it was. Always go on a case by case basis with that kind of thing. Anyway, good luck with the Lincoln!

Weird thing about the Lincoln is that for as MASSIVE and long as it is, and ostensibly a limousine, the rear seating and legroom are oddly cramped, relative to what you might expect. BUT there's something floppily comfortable about long distance drives in those luxobarges.

And the equipment isn't that complex or ostentatious. To be honest it's beggared in that regard by any loaded Kia these days.

But that's still a bargain and has character. You could always murder it out or VIP style it for laughs.

Went to the autoshow today and got to drive the fiat 124 around the block (lol) and it was quite nice. Really liked the interior but I still definitely prefer the Miata overall.

I just discovered a few new changes after my software update: automatic parking brake engagement. And enhanced audio settings, clearer audio.

The I-Pace is quite bigger than a QX30, which is about the size of a BMW X1. The I-Pace will be closer to an all electric F-Pace.

Holy fnck.

I didn't think anything was wrong with this picture until I saw the hehehe and No Love's comments... I still couldn't figure it out until I saw the URL.

That is fncking convincing.

It is a pretty good likeness.

I don't know how a tercel drives, but aside from being a knock off job, it looks pretty good like that.

Just installed the new M performance steering wheel on my M235i and it feels like pure sex when you hold it. It costs around 1200 euros but my friend who bought it sold it to me for 600. A steal at that price

Looks lovely! Is the wheel diameter any smaller than standard? I've picked up my M140i now and would be even more comfortable with a slightly smaller wheel.

Thanks! When I put it against my old wheel it was the same diameter but the shape is more square-ish. It's way thicker though and fits your hand perfectly. I seriously can not go back to the old steering wheel now, if I ever get another BMW swapping this steering wheel is the first thing I'll do.

OMG! I thought we were laughing at the headlights and wheels on an M3...holy shit.

But the grainy and shit resolution of the picture aids to the deception.

My heart just about sank when a witness came into Starbucks and asked if I drive a blue VW Golf R, because a Corolla had backed into it (as if I didn't already hate Corolla drivers enough).

Went outside and found little to no damage (maybe a slight scratch), but confronted the couple about it anyway. The man made it sound like it's okay to park "by feel" as long as there's no visible damage sustained. A simple apology would've sufficed, but at least I have it recorded via dashcam.

I really really hate the vast majority of Corolla drivers here in Vancouver, Canada.

You should've closed your eyes, extended your arms with keys in hand, tell him you're going to walk around his Corolla and say "it's okay for me to walk and feel with keys in my hand that are scratching your entire car right now".

What a fucking asshole.

Wouldnt a e36 coupe be cheaper than modifying a Toyota?

Today probably. That picture could easily be ten years old, tho.

Never bring your car to san francisco. I drive a corolla there and you can my handywork on every other parked car, most curbs and the occasional pedestrian.

I feel overwhelmed looking at it, seems like there's too much going on. Definitely would make me do a double take if I saw it on the road though. The interior is fine for the most part but I feel the same way about the center dash. Huge plus for making it rwd but I don't know how good the automatic transmission kia uses is. I'm indifferent towards auto or manual as long as it works well.

Was having a fun discussion with my wife, curious what Auto-GAF thinks.

How much do you think you'd need bring home a year before being comfortable buying an entry exotic (example Hurucan) or any car around that range (so $250,000 - $300,000)?

Nice looking car. Official reveal is less than 15 minutes, guess we'll have some more info/pics then.

Profile looks like an optima impersonating a BMW 435 and an A7 and the interior looks like a bedazzled inner tube. Kia makes such nice cars but I wish they and Hyundai/genesis would stop aping other cars and add their own flair.

I'm not sure. I feel I'd be more looking at my net worth than income, because I don't think my normal guideline of double the price of the car really applies at that price level. Why I say net worth is because I really don't have a frame of reference for what other expenses would be like. That price range is like 3x that of my house, but I imagine I'd be living in a higher cost of living area if I made enough to afford an exotic.

Definitely see the A7 in it, and the interior looks like a legit Merc knockoff.

Of course the first time my car refuses to start is 2 months after warranty expires and 1 day before I need to drive to Chicago for my appointment at the German consulate. -_-.

I fixed it by disconnecting my battery cable and then jumping it after. Still don't know what caused it, will need to pull codes once I get back.

I've got a question, but I'm not sure if this is the right place. But pretty much I'm interested in studying auto mechanics but I'm not sure where to start. I know there are plenty of courses available, but I want to dip my toes in the water while also learning a decent amount through self study, I'm open to books and online resources. I pretty much want to start it off as a hobby and see if I like it, if I do, perhaps take it further. But I also feel that its a useful life skill to have.

Are you mechanically inclined? Do you fix bikes or build models or anything like that?

I'm not sure how to answer that. One part yes and one part no. I like working on stuff, I've dabbled a small bit in working on electronics and i enjoy working with my hands, I've always liked building stuff since I was little but I've never worked on bikes or anything like that, but I mean, if I knew what I was doing I'd love to start working on motorbikes and the like. The only issue is I currently don't have either a car or bike, but that'll change by the end of the year, and I'd like to be able to care for them and work on them to the best of my ability for practicality and just personal interest.

Do you have room for a spare car? Or failing that, a motorcycle?

I've actually got a car in my garage that's totally unused that I forgot about, so yeah I've definitely got space (and a car I guess). It's not owned so I can do whatever I want to/with it.

Well you can start by working on the car. What kind of car and what year?
