Scalebound cancelled [Platinum Games and Kamiya have commented]

Well, there's always Kickstarter. Obsidian seems to be doing well without a major pub. I mean, not to save Sacalebound, but to keep the lights on. If it comes to that.

Before Microsoft cancelled Fable Legends, they threw 75 million dollars in to that game.

I wonder how much they throw to Scalebound, it's not like MS only give a game one chance for the develop milestones.

I can't stop laughing.

my fiancée bought me the xbox one for my birthday because of 3 games that I wanted.

Halo MCC
Halo 5
Scalebound

and now this lol. Halo MCC a mess, Halo 5 mediocre, Scalebound cancelled

god I'm sad >.<

Holy crap! This was by far the most interesting looking Xbox One exclusive for me.

A cancellation won't hurt the console as much as some think, but this is definitely a blow to the first party lineup.

Was this going to be the first game from Platinum Games that didn't use a proprietary game engine? I wonder if that shift had an impact, because even Nier Automata is using their in-house technology.

Ha ha ha brand suicide. Please, this will barely be a blip in their stock price, you need to step back from the extreme fandom dude.
Hahahaha.

LMAO, are you serious?
Jesus, give me a break. Okay, maybe "brand suicide" is a little exaggerated statement, but this is still bad PR. Microsoft needs to release clear statement about situation around this game, but we all know how clear MS can be with their PR pieces. I'll be surprised if they'll tell us details about what happened.
Microsoft just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Kamiya fans (I'm an expert), but expecting tons of funding for poor selling games is a huge part of it. It's not like it is with other devs where you can become successful by having a marketable concept. If you cancel a Kamiya game you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is that Kamiya's dozen fans, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase an Xbox One, nor will they purchase any of Microsoft's games on PC. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Microsoft has alienated like 12 or or so people with this move.

Microsoft, publicly apologize and uncancel Scalebound for Xbox One or you can kiss your business goodbye.
Oh well, here goes this meme. Goddamit people, why you are so cruel, I'm still learning english!

Damn, that's rough :(

Can someone explain to me the implications for Platinum Games? How bad a situation would they be in if this report turns out to be accurate?

Looking at the footage I don't even blame Microsoft.

Imagine it from their perspective. They probably thought they were getting Vanquish, and ended up with

SBE3.gif

That dragon literally covers half of the screen. What the hell!

Do you get my dislike for Spencer now, Spencer believers? Do you fucking get it?
Why because he possibly cancelled a game that looked like shit in every viewing ever for it? If anything he's ending a disaster before it even takes more money that he can use for something else. Nothing is wrong with that but I see your hatred for Xbox so that's fine in your eyes.

People thinking Nintendo is going to spend a single cent on this are being idiotic. Not sure why Sony would bother either.

If anyone in this industry would do that I'd expect Kamiya to be the person who would. Just because the game didn't have a hardcore anime inspired vibe or a waifu character doesn't mean that it wasn't the game that Kamiya wanted to make when he literally stated the opposite multiple times. In fact I imagine it was probably refreshing to produce a game at that fidelity on next gen hardware. At least until development hell started to crop up.

Don't you know that "isekai" trash is extremely popular in Japan's otaku scene, right now?

Xbox Japanese support is basically done. They will only get some multiplatform titles from Namco and Capcom at best.

Oh for fuck sake. If Microsoft have some brains they won't do this, because outrage will be huge. Lionhead and some free2play garbage is one thing, but canceling Kamiya's dream game is brand suicide.

Yeah, you're right. Microsoft is going to make a generational leap in GPU power but not touch the CPU.

Come on, man.
I'm sure it will be better, but not to the extent that it will bridge the gap of jaguars to cloud servers.

Besides, nobody making Xbox one games is going to have any incentive to build different code for cross compatible software. That won't come until they axe XB1 support.

Considering Plaitnum's workmanlike ability to get solid games out under pressure I'm more likely to believe this is on Microsoft.

Not going to lie but my interest in this diminished purely because it took so long to come out.

If this does happen, I might be done with MS. For me, it's the nail in the coffin. As time goes on, they've been getting worse and worse when it comes to Japanese games exclusives and even exclusives in general. Like, KI and Forza Horizon are amazing, and I liked Sunset Overdrive enough, but that's pretty much it for me. I never liked Gears, and Halo has been going downhill since 4.

Scalebound was one of the biggest reason I got the fucking thing and I thought since it had multiple showings at presentations, I thought it was a lock. I love Kamiya's games and I thought the game looked really good. This really hurts.

Outside of people like you and me who follow this kind of stuff, no one will care. This game was never going to be a big seller.

Sadly this. I was looking forward to this game but even then I knew the game didn't look all that good and I wasn't necessarily sold it on from what we've seen to this point. I wasn't 100% sold, so I wasn't even going to get it Day 1, I was just going to wait and see if it bombed to get it cheap, which is probably the end result if it's not cancelled.

I don't think they care that much.

You don't think they care that one of their most anticipated titles, of which millions was sunk into had to have the plug pulled on it? Stop it. The narrative you're trying to push in this thread that the blame is solely on Platinum and it's no big deal is weird.

Scalebound should have just been Bayonetta with being able to ride dragons instead of Jets. It would have sold like hot cakes. What it really looks like is a slow plotting fight along side a dragon game with some weird rave looking hero.

How often do publishers ever provide extensive details on a cancelled project?

Games are expensive and Microsoft are about fast results. They want that big new franchise like Halo and Gears were and they aren't getting it. It's also not like Sony where they want to build a big and strong first party, otherwise they wouldn't have shut their studios or downsized them over the past decade or more.

Best wishes.

This game has been in development for 3 and a half years though.

Almost twice as long as any other game Platinum has made

I'm not sure them wanting "fast results" is a factor here

Platinum has really killed the value of their reputation in an incredibly short time. They're like Techland where you hope you're getting the good Techland and not bad Techland.
