Not sure if this is mentioned already but I remember Kamiya apparently tweeted and said "those shits at Microsoft are they fucking with me?". This was back in 2015 so it seems like things haven't been smooth behind the scenes for a while.
On this I definitely agree.
I think they're on track to sell to their expectations. The demo is very well received.

'big' projects get killed quite often, that's nothing new, and many studios are working on games that might never see the light of day. Sometimes the developers themselves kill it before costs run out of control, sometimes it's decided by the company that is paying the bills. But yeah, it's a pretty rare story when a game gets cancelled that has been pretty far in development and has been shown to the public on multiple occasions, so in that regard this is quite 'something'.

I disagree with this. Platform holders need to create a diverse portfolio of games to attract a wide range of gamers. Not every game can, or should, be a mega hit. I don't think Microsoft have ever understood this.

This is the exact reason why I can't stand list wars and console warriors. People kept listing all these games coming out for the Xbox One as proof that it had such a great upcoming line up. The first red flag should have been when Ryse didn't live up the hype, but it didn't stop fanboys from continuing the list wars. Xbox marketing was running ads on how it was the place to play the best and the biggest blockbusters (they were showing off games that weren't even released yet, INCLUDING Ryse). Scalebound may have been on some of these later ads - I'm not sure.
And yet here we are today. Another exclusive loss. Now it's obviously not all about exclusives. There are certainly some benefits that people care about, especially for a slick console like the Xbox One S capabilities and Xbox Live as a stable platform for gaming.
But for me it's about the games more than anything and I've commented many times on how I'm seeing that investment into development studios being made to offer something unique. I can get plenty of that from Nintendo and Sony, but it's been lacking from Microsoft. A lot of general consumers don't care as long as they can play their Madden, Battlefield 1, and Rocket Leagues, with friends, but I do care. I don't have as much time for gaming now a days and I want only the best experiences I can get because of my limited time.
It's great that Scorpio will be very powerful and allowed for the visual fidelity and hopefully frame rate that we would like from our consoles, but I don't give a shit if they don't come along with the exclusive games. I have a gaming/HTPC to handle all of that if it's on both platforms.
This is going to be an interesting year both for the Xbox brand and Platinum. The Xbox division has essentially nothing for this year and after Nier, so does Platinum. This was a game that both parties needed to work. I can't begin to imagine how much of a fucking mess this is for everybody.

I see a YouTube video featuring Andrew House introducing Kamiya and a new IP coming to PS4. 
It's not like Scalebound would sell that much more.
I think in the past they got deals because they were known for quality titles. They had a good image which was making great games relatively fast. But lately with disappointing games and now this news I'm not so sure if that will go on much further anymore... I think a lot relies on Nier.

Actually if you look at the profit margins for games this gen that model specifically not only is the most profitable, but it's what most developers in general are leaning towards. Sony's been doing it too, with the shit ton of grinding/MTs in the MP of ND's games which are among their most expensive games to produce.
Three Activision licensed titles, one of which was at least solid, and Star Fox Zero with most of the design work done by Miyamoto/Nintendo. I'd say Platinum's supposed fall from grace is mostly overblown baloney.
It's time to save a new game Nintendo!
It's missing the "amiibo" logo.
Either way game's dead now.

I mean, this is their first game that this has happened to. MS decided to no longer want to be a part of this. So they cancelled it.

the only game that was remotely interesting just died. would be interesting to see how it turned out, oh well. i feel bad for platinum. so much time and creativity wasted. this must suck big time.
All they had to do was SIT IT OUT! That is all MS HAD TO DO! So yes it bloody well is their fault. Kamiya would have finished the game and I would have had it in my grubby hands. But noooope, MS being MS.. they probably wanted some Microtransactions in there or some other thing that made Kamiya go "you know.. fuck this shit.... I'll go make a Nintendo game instead".
It was literally the ONLY Japanese Developer they HAD that made an exclusive for them!
SO you bet your damn arse it is their fault. If it is your only one, you pamper that studio! You don't chase them off. You don't go acting like Nintendo in SNES days, when you are Nintendo in Wii U days!

Combined with even their good games like w101 bombing it's shocking they're still afloat.

I'm legit shook for the Scorpio now. Only UHD BR, third party, BC, Halo, Gears and Rare keeping it afloat (still a decent amount of content but not enough).
Game deader than F-Zero.
I don't think that's too uncommon.
The official videos are pretty much just marketing for a game that doesn't exist anymore, there's still all the re-uploads and other channels with the same footage/trailers.
Now, if for some reason they started doing DMCA takedowns of those videos, then that'd be some bullshit.
They need at least 2-3 new internal studios working on *new* AAA IP.
They have Crackdown, Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 left (where only the first one looks like AAA)
