Washington Post said:
The head of the D.C. National Guard, Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, said Friday that he has been ordered removed from his command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.

Schwartz’s forced departure will come in the midst of the presidential inauguration that he has spent months helping plan alongside D.C. police, the U.S. Secret Service and other top District officials. He will turn over command to an interim as power transfers from one president to the next, and just before the inaugural parade marches down Pennsylvania Avenue.

“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.

“My troops will be on the street,” Schwartz, 65, said. “I’ll see them off but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said that he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”

A little more background: he was appointed by Bush and retained by Obama.

Update:
From the Washington Post:

Washington Post said:
The transition team for President-elect Donald Trump asked the head of the D.C. National Guard to remain in command throughout Inauguration Day after media reports that he would leave in the middle of the ceremony created controversy, the Guard said.

...

As is customary for presidential appointees, Schwartz had offered his resignation after Trump was elected. In an interview Friday, Schwartz said he learned he would be replaced on Jan. 20. He said the transition team ultimately asked him to stay in the job for a few additional days, but only after the report of his departure had been published Friday on The Washington Post website.

Schwartz said he turned down the transition team’s offer because, by then, he had begun packing up his office and notified his staff. He said he believes the offer came only as a result of the negative attention his departure attracted.

It's really weird how they want a clear out day zero. Is it like a Hydra mop up crew or something. Do they think if they get in day zero, nobody will be able to stop them.

This is so insanely petty and by extension so very Trump. His lack of respect for American and the political system extends to just randomly being shitty to people for no reason. Is there any sane and logical reason for booting this guy mid-inaguration? Childish posturing.

President for all Americans but fuck you if you were willing to work with Obama.

Trump's massive ego at play; wielding as much power as possible the second he's in office.

There is zero reason to do this other than to stroke your own power boner and send a message that you plan to wreck shit. Trump will likely spin this as what he meant by "drain the swamp".. pointlessly clearing out people who have non-political jobs while handing out important positions to the richest / largest conflict of interest possible.

I bet he'll be issuing executive orders as soon as he's in his armored car.

This is what dictators do,wielding all the power so only they can do anything.

But that's the best way to keep the enemy guessing is if your own side doesn't know what's going on! Commander-in-Chief DJT knows this.

A guillotined exit of current officials is on the schedule. Much more troublingly, the US ambassador to the EU will also leave his post on inauguration day.

Euractiv: Trump staff asked EU officials which countries will leave the EU next

Gardner said questions from Trump's staff to EU officials about which countries will leave the bloc reflect ”the perception that Nigel Farage is presumably disseminating in Washington. And it's a caricature".

The US ambassador will be ousted from his post on 20 January, the day Trump takes office. Gardner received a message from Washington on 23 December informing him that he and other political appointees must leave their jobs by Trump's inauguration day.

That marks a ”breach of precedent that's been established for decades", Gardner said. Earlier incoming presidents have allowed diplomats to stay on for weeks or months before replacing them, according to the diplomat, whose father worked in foreign missions under two US presidents.

”The human impact of a guillotined exit on January 20 is substantial," he said.

Expect bounds of administrative, clerical and diplomatic fuckery in the coming months. It is going to be more of a purge than a transition.

Americans don't care.

All this shit he's doing is fine because we simply don't care.

Trump is entering his term having lost the popular vote by several million, as one of the least popular presidents, ever, amid a controversy that could destroy his presidency.

We do, in fact, care. Just the wrong people in the wrong states didn't a few months ago. It doesn't mean Trump is indestructible.

I just know I recognize Trump and his cronies as traitors. Americans seem to be in "wait and see" mode but I have seen enough.

Trump is one of the least popular presidents of all time and he's not even in office yet. I have faith you Americans will remove him in due time

Fucking hell this is unbelievable, if people do not see this since this is work of a dictator in process, it starts slow look at how it happend at trump tower with that press conference. Removing lots of key people at important jobs is another thing to rain more power...

I'd just like to point out that this DC National Guard commander was appointed by George W. Bush, not Barack Obama.

I kind of suspect at this most of us have already gone "nope, get his ass out ASAP" and now it's more that our collective hands are tied. If there was a hypothetical vote between Trump and Pence I kind of think Pence would stomp him as the not-Trump option.

At this point I'm half expecting a movie-style coup where on inauguration day, all screens and TV feeds are suddenly replaced with Putin giving a supervillain speech while Russia's military swoops in unopposed.

How exactly are out diplomatic relations going to go with Trump just kicking out seemingly all ambassadors in foreign countries immediately?

It takes time to replace all these people.

Trump is not worried because Russian diplomats are already in these foreign countries.

There was a period of time where I was okay with Trump, because I dreaded the thought of Pence in charge.

Now? Trump is just sheer chaos. I may nopt agree with a lot of Pence's ideas, but at least I know what they are, and I know he'd generally uphold the government traditions that are in place to ensure smooth transitions, etc.
