YESSSSSSSSSS.

PRETTY MUCH THE ONLY GIF CAPABLE OF CONVEYING THE LEVEL OF HYPE I AM FEELING RIGHT NOW

That's pretty exciting news. Given all the shit talk he's been giving the games industry lately I hope he's energized to create something that will blow us away.

Provided that this doesn't also turn into something completely different that I don't want mid-production, I would have incentive to care about this now.

For those that didn't know, Suda did not write No More Heroes 2. In fact he had nothing to do with the sequel so it's nice to see him back. We'll probably get memorable boss battles this time.

That's very wrong.

Tiny Catridge said:
Game designer and Grasshopper Manufacture president Goichi Suda (Suda 51) says that the assistant director for the first No More Heroes game, Toshihiro Fujikawa, will direct No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle.

Speaking with Nintendo Power, Suda revealed that he’ll once again write the sequel’s script, but will “watch over the game as an executive director” this time around.
Fujikawa has previously served as the assistant director for several other Grasshopper titles, such as Samurai Champloo and Killer7.

Suda explained the Desperate Struggle subtitle:
“There’s a word in Japanese – shito. Shi means ‘death,’ and to means 'fight.’ When I tried to find an English translation on the Internet, it came up with Desperate Struggle.”

He also shared some hints on NMH 2’s story:
“This time, Travis [Touchdown] is looking for revenge. It’s a serious fight this time, and the word shito reflects that.
There’s a series of Japanese movies called Jingi Naki Tatakai that are about the yakuza. They’re really famous in Japan – sort of the equivalent of The Godfather. They focus on the relationships between members of the Yakuza.
The subtitle for the second one is Hiroshima Shito Hen. That roughly translates to The Desperate Struggle of Hiroshima. Inspired by that, I wanted No More Heroes 2 to be The Desperate Struggle of Santa Destroy.
There’s a really intense fight in Hiroshima Shito Hen, and I wanted to sort of recreate that in No More Heroes 2.”

He still wrote No More Heroes 2 and is actually credited equally with the NMH 2 Director in the credits:

There's actually not a specific writer or director credit in the credits.

Man, the fact we're getting an HD NMH (built from the ground-up for the platform at least) directed by Suda has me all kinds of happy.

Hope they take the sweet sword combat of Killer is Dead and improve on it. Should work fine for NMH and add new stuff since no gun usage.

Yessss we're getting No More Heroes 3. :D :D

I really loved the first two game and will happily take the second game.

Oh, I actually didn't know that. Might explain why I liked the first one a lot more, despite some of the obvious improvements made in the second game.

Yeah the first game gave bosses back stories whereas the second game had more improved combat and the game flowed better but the boss just didn't hit the high note as the first game.

The second game also didn't have Bad Girl. ;_;

We thinking this is exclusive then?

Probably will be, No More Heroes got a HD port to the PS3 and didn't sell well.

i had to spend all night calming myself because this announcement had me so shook

Suda51 hands-on writing and directing No More Heroes 3 for Switch. hold me

No one being credited was what threw me off. It didn't help that the sequel felt unfocused story wise than the first.

Edit: Wait a minute.........that's not Suda.

Wish that development on this had started a long time earlier, but whatever gets me an actual new Suda 51 game makes me happy. His specific style is impossible to emulate, so Grasshopper's output has just felt "off" to me for some time now.

Huh? He DIDN'T direct his later games? Shadows of the Damned? Lollipop Chainsaw? Let It Die? None of those? Huh...

He did some initial designs and script-work for some of those, but they all had different directors. He barely had anything to do with Let It Die.

He himself said in the interview that it will be the first game he's written and directed in 10 years. So seems like he doesn't consider NMH2 his.

Also like someone else pointed out. That name is Chihiro Suda. Suda 51s real name is Goichi Suda. Not the same person.

NMH 3 is my most anticipated Switch game. I need it ASAP.

I always found it kind of funny that the smartest game I've ever played was one where you recharge your beam katana by simulating jerking off and save your game by taking a dump.

He definitely wrote (at least the original treatment) of the NMH2 script, because that script is available in public and it has his notes.

Didn't direct though
True true.

Anyway, I personally thought GHM's 'non-Suda' games were fine. NMH2 is great and I like Killer is Dead quite a bit too. I think the flaws in his post-NMH1 output has more to do with publisher meddling (EA, Warner Bros, Kadokawa) than anything, especially when it comes to the large amount of fan-service and potty humour.

Nope. Maybe now people will notice instead of praising his games when he didn't direct them. :p
It's really stupid when browsing posts or news on Let It Die.

I hope that all of you praising this news have bought The Silver Case.

Looking at the Steam sales topic, they definitely aren't.

People think of the likes of Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned are "Suda games" when it's just his studio. I've even seen it with games like Contact on DS as well. It'd be great if we called every game from Access Games a "SWERY" game when it's just not true.

Suda's actual output as director is pretty much perfect so far, I think. Glad he's getting back into the director chair again and I will hope this means we are still getting The Silver Case sequel 25 Wards as well but I am not holding my hope up due to the abysmal sales for The Silver Case on Steam. :(
That's what I want more, just hope NMH3 isn't a rehash since it seemed like NMH2 was created as an antithesis or critique of sequels in a way like NMH1 was a critique of Otaku culture.

god finally. i'm so sick of hearing people call every new GhM game a "suda51 game" for the past decade when he hasn't directed anything in 10 years.

"God Suda51's games are janky messes aren't they, why does the combat suck?".

Or my favourite:

"You can tell it is a Suda51 game when [insert quirky/crazy bit of the game here]"

Like:

"You can tell it is a Suda51 game when it has blonde cheerleaders decapitating zombies whilst having her boyfriend attached to her by the waist. Literally. God Suda games are so crazy. Ahaha, Suda-san you have done it again you mad genius."

Grrr.

You're thinking it, so I'll say it: it's been so long since NMH that I expect the reception of Suda's return to demonstrate just how much the political culture of video games has changed. It might be fun, but it won't be pretty.

I'm curious about the game, though it seems a long ways off.

I'm so excited to see Suda will be directing this one, I love the series.

(Just please, make it better than NMH2. :/)

Directed by Suda?

They've said that about every other game that's come out of Grasshopper since the first NMH.

Excited either way, but I don't buy that he's actually directing.

So did we ever get an accurate translation to what Suda said during the presentation?

That translator seemed to be having difficulties and the vibe I got from what he was able to translate, was something about indie games/development. This made me assume this new NMH isn't going to be anything on the scale of its predecessors.
