After the Nintendo Switch Launch I feel like I'm coming out of Denial

After having pre-ordered my Switch I'm a bit shocked that it feels like I'm now looking for reasons to NOT cancel my pre-order.

I was super hyped for

- The most powerful traditional handheld to date
- Catching up with Nintendo Amazing First Party
- Something for Travel
- Keep the Kids happy on trips in the car
- Home Console Games at Home & on the Move

But from the reveal to reading the news over the last day all excitement has gone and it has almost felt the way Nintendo are selling this is like the Emperor's New Clothes and I'm in a weird bubble where it's doing nothing for me.

So many things seem to be stacking on top of each other to really put me off having this thing

- 32GB Storage (I've been living in the all Digital World)
- Paid Online with the bolt on App (This amazes me)
- Launch Lineup / Release Pacing
- The Monthly NES/SNES Game Rental
- Battery Life
- Price of Accessories
- 1 2 Switch Existing & Its Price

As well as things we do not know that haven't been addressed

- The Account System
- Purchases going to be tied to the account
- Apps / OS Functionality

I'm waiting to see if I'll snap out of this as I can't believe Nintendo were able to unpick my lock for this purchase which would have been met by just showing me the ability to play some higher tier real games on a portable device. Now I'm just thinking I'll wait and take a controller with me for my laptop when I travel.

Eventually it'll drop in price, the library will fill out and there will be some kick ass bundles.

I waited on the Wii U and got so many great games all at once it was amazing.

OP, cancel your pre-order.

You can just get one later when there's better reasons.

If you have a Wii U then you can still play Zelda on March 3rd.

shut uuuuuuuuuuuuuuup
The only thing tempting me to get a Switch at launch now is Zelda looking better, and that's kinda sad. But even worse is that it may be the thing pushing me over the edge when the difference is significant.

Yeah i't not like me to feel this negative (or post negative threads) on some new stuff, I know everything is not for me.

I was someone who imported a PSP way ahead of UK release so I could play on the most powerful handheld back then.

The launch was just so bad for me, I'll hold on and see but its weird how little it's doing for my to buy right away as I'm always day 1.

OP, cancel your pre-order.

Yeah thats what I'll do before Amazon charge if I don't change my mind, it's weird to feel so flat on a new gaming system.

Play games, not consoles. If you'd actually pay attention to games, you'd see one of the most amazing and promising lineups of recent years, something I'm personally massively hyped about.

Who cares if pro con costs 70 or if battery last 3h? It has Xeno2, Mario Odyssey, FE Musou, New SMT, new Suda game, what else do you need?

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
I think it will have a quite solid lineup by the Holiday season - and you will likely get more attractive bundles by that time. Unless you are a really commited hardcore fan there is no reason to get one at launch.

Just wait and see how the system will perform. Its January and people act as if all Switch games for this year have already been shown or announced.

A Nintendo Switch reaction thread? What a novel idea.

On a less sarcastic note, OP, definitely don't buy it if you're not feeling it. Having a $300 hunk of plastic that never gets used staring at you is a baaaaad feeling.

^ basically this

Switch is a successor to the 3DS in more ways than one. Like 3DS, anemic library at launch but bound to have a kickass library later.

I'll wait until Mario comes out, I've decided to get Zelda on my Wii U

Nintendo have got me by the balls. I'm only getting the Switch because of Zelda and part of me wishes that it's delayed so I can just wait for a price cut. Unfortunately, I'm a big Zelda fan and there is no chance I'm buying the Wii U version instead of the Switch.

I was in similar mindset, like wait for revision or wait Nintendo layout their master plan if there is a Switch phase 2 (Switch Home, Switch Go).
Now hype is getting into me, try to find ways to import. Need help.

I'm with op here .. im now looking for reasons to NOT cancel my pre-order. I'm thinking maybe I will like having the games on the go.. 2nd thought.. do I really need this? ... I just don't know anymore. I'm feeling more like .. I'm just trying to support Nintendo .. but maybe I don't really need this .. I don't see the audience for this.

I was in denial thinking that Nintendo finally knew what they were doing

Nope. They still in struggle mode

If you're not into the console and not a scalper, why did you even preorder it? If you wait a year or so, there will be a limited edition with a custom-paint console and pack-in game in possibly a cool package which will put the mundane launch sku peasant to shame.

Like any Nintendo console it's a place to play the new Nintendo games. If you don't want to do it that then definitely don't get it

Well, they wont be there at launch so why should he get one at launch?

Why not wait until this holiday?

I think that is where we are all at right now.

Do you not have a 3DS or Vita?

Get one of those. Huge libraries.

Just cancel. It's a ton of money for a disastrous launch. Zelda's probably gonna be fantastic, but you didn't even mention that, so I'm guessing you don't need it.

I think it's gonna be a good Christmas, but I think a lot of people that I know personally that are getting it in March are doing so against their better judgement, honestly. Hype is a hell of a drug.

I'm sorry but what does 1 2 Switch existing do to you?

I don't see what's wrong with 1, 2 Switch existing. Looks fun.

Price is nuts though

There isn't at all.

It's not for me (I thought about even listing it) but when I saw it and that it wasn't a bundle and almost a full priced game that was almost the straw that had me thinking 'what are Nintendo doing' and got thinking 'man I'm out on this'.

Try hiding it. Drawer, closet, plastic crate.

I keep thinking I am in denial when I view people's thread posting and individual posting histories but then I very clearly see their agendas after 10 seconds of research. No denial here.

Oh look more agenda based / clearly viral marketing posting.

When I woke up yesterday morning I was genuinely ready to pre-order a Switch at a moment's notice. I'd already saved the money, I had the webpage up ready to start the F5 game. Then I watched the event and just felt all the excitement die. So overpriced, so many expensive add-on features I simply don't want, such a weak lineup of games with actual solid release dates.

I've always been the "Well, there's always next time" guy with Nintendo. It was disappointment after disappointment in the Wii U years. They'd have a bad E3, but I'd be sure they were just waiting for the next big Direct, and then that would be a bust, but I knew they had to have something up their sleeves. Until yesterday I was positive that this excruciating lull in Wii U releases over the last couple of years meant Nintendo's devs must have been working full steam on Switch games, but here we are. They've got nothing. I'm done.

So, yeah, I'll be playing Zelda on my Wii U, and the Switch can wait. There'll be price drops, hardware revisions, bundles; it'll eventually become a more interesting proposition. Buying one at launch seems like the worst possible move.

There's honestly no reason to buy one until Black Friday unless you desperately want to play Zelda on new hardware. If it's bombing hard by then, you can pick one up with Mario at probably a cheaper price that now.

I only preordered it because I could, but I won't be buying it unless I snap (hah) or something absolutely insane happens. Nintendo failed in major ways and killed my excitement after having set aside money, thinking I'd surely get one at launch. I'm just going to play Zelda on Wii U and Cemu since it's all I care about right now.

Vita is my fsvourite handheld of all time and one of my favourite systems of all time. Before the presentation I had the Switch all but pre ordered. In my mind there was absolutely no way I wasn't getting this system on launch. It's powerful handheld gaming hardware. Essentially the next Vita! How could I not? Then Nintendo fucked everything up. Every. Single. Thing. It hit me like a ton of bricks. The reality is that there is no replacement for the Vita. Handheld gaming as I knew it is fucked, and that is depressing. Like, seriously depressing.

Huh. I never look at people's post histories because I'm not a weirdo.

Agendas, lol. What's your agenda? Damage control? Judge and jury?

It's not a great launch lineup but we are getting Mario and Zelda (this game looks legendary, and Mario does too) this year. Xenoblade 2 is also claimed to be 2017, I thought. We'll see if it makes that

I feel like there's too much negativity and the only big potential issue is the overall price at launch (console + SD card + online + accessories).

But it is "the most powerful handheld to date with first party titles that will keep the kids happy and provide home console games on the move" you described.

-storage: if you're wanting to go all digital with a Nintendo that runs on carts then... I dunno... That's strange.

-Paid online: yeah, that's a bummer

-Launch lineup/release pacing: first year schedule is easily better than Ps4 and what I can remember from Xbone. Idgaf, 'PS4 has no game' became a meme for a damn good reason. I know, as someone who owned just a PS4 for that first couple years.

-NES/SNES 'rental': does that really move the needle?

-Battery life: a handheld with performance that faaaaaaaar eclipses any handheld to come before with battery life that performs nearly the same as previous gens? That's a deterrent? To me, that sounds like turning away the PS4 because it consumes as much power as the PS3. Huh?

-accessory price: yeah, they're expensive. No arguments here. I'm sure it's the Rumble stuff. Hopefully it's cool...

-1 2 Switch: the price sucks for sure but the whole 'annoyance at its existence, video games were a mistake meme' is goddamn annoying. Let Nintendo be weird, ffs.

I'm gonna cancel too.
First time I'm not interested in a Nintendo console... feels bad man :(
I even love my Wii U, it's actually one of the systems I'm the most fond of.
The Switch... nope, I'm not interested in it. I'm looking forward to the games so that's good, but still, I was hoping for a good image quality at least. I'm not asking for Uncharted levels of details obviously, just... no jaggies, please ? It seems too much to ask in 2017 so whatever, I'll wait for a price drop. Oh and the stupidity around the voice chat is draining my mind. If the console had a good online system and basically what the 360 offered more than ten years ago, it would have been enough and I would have bought it early for Mario Kart Deluxe and Splatoon.
It won't hurt to wait for more info and may be a price drop.

Disgaea 5 is the first step for Switch becoming the Vita 2, hope we'll see more Japanese support.

I think a few years ago I'd be down but there are so many other options now that it's really takes from it, if we lived in a bubble I'm sure I would have had more of a response to this.

Exactly, I'm sure it will be great in a while just not giving anything new for a day 1 piece of tech. The second Pokemons out I'll have the kids forcing my to buy it anyway.

I only posted as I was looking for a thread of people in a similar position / thoughts.

I'll hit cancel on my preorder when the tie comes if I still don't want it.

Amazon charges on dispatch. So Nintendo have the time to react to reception and you've got about 2 months to decide.

I have a question, and I don't want to make another thread to add to the crazy huge pile.

Why does Nintendo constantly "got nothing" now? Even after restructuring, consolidating, giving new blood bigger roles, and henceforth, how can they still not keep up with 360-era game development?

It's not like one must buy hardware on day 1

I didn't get the 3DS until year 3, but it's my favorite system now

Same here.

I was SURE they learned so much from the WiiU debacle. I waa ready for it, "day 1". But Jesus...... the Switch "truth" was so damn bad. Absolutely ridiculous. Seriously they should stop making hardware. They simply don't have it anymore in that regard.

Lol this is me. I'm thinking of keeping my Zelda Special Edition pre-order, cancelling my Switch pre-order, and just waiting a year or Black Friday or whatever and getting it then. I'll still have my SE Zelda on Switch, but the Switch itself will make mores sense. It's very difficult and painful though, because this Zelda looks like the Zelda I've been wanting to exist for years.
