Phil Spencer: '2017 won't be Halo FPS/Gears led'

Phantom dust is remaster not brand new game , how could they market that much even remaster of xbox1 game

It doesn't matter if its a remaster. Most people have never played Phantom Dust to begin with. THey can just market it as a brand new smaller type game and nobody would know the wiser that it was from 2 gens ago. That's how State of Decay got so successful just being a smaller indie style game.

THey have a true chance here to cultivate an off kilter success if they advertise it properly.

That would actually be really great plan. I forgot about Phantom Dust.

People keep forgetting/denying that New Phantom Dust (not HD) is also in development still. Its been actively quoted as it having a start-stop-start period.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Link? Last I heard the new one was cancelled and they are just doing a remaster.

What are the chances for the Ori sequel later this year as well?

I've seen rumors going around about it coming late this year. We'll see though.

But yeah, it's obvious that this year won't have a mainline Gears or Halo title considering new entries from both series launched not that long ago. Crackdown 3 and Forza Motorsport 7 will more than likely be Microsoft's major games this Holiday season. Interested in seeing what new IPs they have planned for this year (if there are any).

He is doing damage control. The only reason he is doing this is the heat Xbox is getting for cancelling Scalebound and lack of (variaty) games. PR bullshit.

Why the edge? Taking to fans about games they want is PR bullshit? I think it's good PR. Not all PR is reprehensible by nature.

Flagship properties will probably end up in the form of Crackdown, Sea of Theives, Ori 2, Forza, and probably a third party game that is a timed exclusive (if history is any thing to by).

Also Scorpio demonstrations galore with a 4K 60 FPS Stream in the highest possible quality would be pretty epic if doable.

I thought it was just the HD remaster? As a previous poster said - do u have a link for that info?

Thanks.

I'm skeptical.....it could be Start (remake) - Stop (remake) - Start (HD remaster) and he wouldn't be lying

That seems... odd. Maybe Halo 6 is taking longer than expected and won't release this year?

I can't imagine Sea of Thieves or Crackdown 3 "leading" Microsoft's lineup.

Halo 6 would release 2018 earliest I hope they take even longer with it tbh

?
Of course not. Gears 4 recently launched and Halo 6 is in the middle of its development cycle.
This.

Also, Halo 6 will be the crown jewel of their E3, sooooo~ for the rest of the year and well into the year after, Halo 6 will be used to prop up why people need to buy Scorpio/Xbox One S more than any other exclusive in every single conversation.

Nothing has changed.

He has actually answered similar questions on Twitter in the past. I agree that Scalebound plays a role but it's not as if this is the very first time he's doing it ("the only reason").

Yo that should never be said.

Why not? Cuphead, state of decay 2 and phantom dust are going to review very well and gain a lot of people talking.

State of decay was already critically acclaimed. Cuphead doesnt even need a real explanation of why it will be critically acclaimed, just go look at a few videos, and Phantom dust was always a very behind the scenes cult classic that just got overlooked

So he didn't answer the question, the question was if there are new IP's coming and Spencers answer was that there will be new experiences with different IP's. Not that i'm surprised really.

I'm betting they have another action game up their sleeves or they've brought one...

A capable exclusive that can be showcased on the Scorpio would be irresistible for early adopters.

2001: Halo
2004: Halo 2
2007: Halo 3
2010: Halo Reach
2012: Halo 4
2015: Halo 5

Outside of the gap between Reach and 4, (Mainline) Halo's always been on a three year cycle.

Only one iteration of Phantom Dust got stopped in its development
Sure but the start again can totally pertain to the title being just remastered instead of remade. I think you are reading waaayyyy too much into that tweet.

Because nothing is guaranteed. Look at Batman v Superman. How could that go wrong?

And cult classic = 100% guaranteed critical acclaim? Come on now.

Pretty surprised at the Halo "not leading" news.... It really felt like a good Halo year :(

Crackdown and Scorpio for 2017 then? Feels a bit dry, Phil.

The period of Halo 3 Gears ODST Gears Halo R Gears Halo 4 messed up people's counts. Plus at one point Microsoft was actively telling gamers they would switch those franchises off each year.

Considering what has happened with Phantom Dust, can you really blame people for being skeptical that anything productive will ever come out of that project?

Your really looking at Batman Vs DC? We all knew from the beginning that DC's handling of their film universe was going to be shitty after their not subtle obsession with wanting to copy Marvel. Its not as if we didn't see it. And to be fair, i didn't even think BvS(or Suicide Squad for that matter) were as bad as people said to begin with.

But again, back on topic, Phantom dust was a game that, for the people who played it, really got them interested in the aspects of the game and the potential was there for a bigger splash had MS pushed a bit more.

This is their second chance and i doubt they are going to leave it be again, especially after taking the time and effort to resurrect it in the first place out of all the other IP's they are sitting on. If they market this to Xbox users, its gonna catch on like fire.

So he didn't answer the question, the question was if there are new IP's coming and Spencers answer was that there will be new experiences with different IP's. Not that i'm surprised really.

TBF, they dont really need new IP's this year to continue at their current pace...you dont have to have new games all the time.

Scalebound was a blow, but not that big of one considering its just one game. Considering the XB1 exclusives already listed as well as all the western multiplats coming this year, its hard to see any major droughts, especially not on the level of Switch anyway.

Thank you for making this thread! Good Phantom Dust news needs to be seen by everyone :D. Should have included it in the title somehow :p. What if it's one of those "and you can start playing... Today!" moments at E3? It will be my E3 of dreams! I'm fine with a beta coming soon please. As long as I get access to it. Lol

I mean but, basic logic and perception of grammar means thats the only thing he could mean.

If Ueda said TLG had a start-stop-start then I wouldnt assume the restart was the Shadow of the Colossus HD collection.

That is a pretty a massive stretch. He is not announcing a new Phantom Dust game. You can tell because at no point did he announce a new Phantom Dust game.

But they did announce a new Phantom Dust game at E3 2014, he's saying there it started again

Considering what has happened with Phantom Dust, can you really blame people for being skeptical that anything productive will ever come out of that project?

Massively understandable

this particular statement has made me cautiously optimistic, just a bit more.

What's so special about that tweet that made you more optimistic? Xbox 2017 lineup (minus Scalebound news) was pretty much known from last year.

Who is the developer.

Again, I think you are reaching.

I want Season 4, because if there's a season 4 there's a chance we get FORZA CAR as a fighter.

That'd be the best thing ever.
You are full of great ideas this thread.

As much as I want to believe, I think Racer is (sadly) right. I agree with you that he should be talking about the remake, but it could just as easily mean the remaster.

So who is the developer?

No idea, just like we dont know whos doing the Phantom Dust HD remake, but its still there and still a thing

I mean, my cynicism and scorn has been turned up by 3000% towards MS, but even then I can only say what I see in front of me

I just dont get gramatically how you could be referring to a different project, the only way that would work is if PD HD was something like MGR: Revengeance

If im wrong, then im mad wrong and ill be spluttering and bewildered but ill still be wrong

What's so special about that tweet that made you more optimistic? Xbox 2017 lineup (minus Scalebound news) was pretty much known from last year.

The fact that somebody knows when the fabled lineup of Halo shooters and Gears need to take a friggin break for just a minute makes me delighted
