We usually don't get hardware figures anymore, and Windows Central seems to be running monthly columns about it now, so here we go.

Windows Central said:
For the month of December, Xbox sold 1,511,000 units across both its Xbox One and Xbox One S consoles, which puts Xbox sales up 10% year-over-year for December. Sony took the sales lead selling 1,568,000 consoles during December, with 238,000 units of its PlayStation 4 Pro edging Microsoft into second place.

Trusted game industry sources who receive NPD figures have once again given us some insight into how the Xbox is doing sales-wise in the US.

NPD Group research retail sales in the US, offering Sony and Microsoft the opportunity to say who "won" the sales race for each month. The actual figures are a closely guarded secret, until now!

I'm kind of surprised at how low the Pro ratio is. Was the thing not widely available, or were people just uninterested?

Honestly, that's pretty awesome that they both had killer months. With a narrow margin like that, who cares who won? It seems like they BOTH won, which is a win/win for gamers.

The Slim had amazing Christmas deals did it not? While the Pro was full RRP with no major deals, since it is just out.

Also if people are buying presents for others they're probably gonna buy the cheaper alternative.

I can only speak for my area, but my local stores seem packed with Pros still so I would say There doesn't seem to be much interest in my area

Seems in line with expectations and other markets. Sony barely markets the thing. Seems positions to only be 10-20% of sales.

I'm kind of shocked at how close they were. I expected a bigger gap when I saw PS4 won the month. I guess I expected the Pro to be in bigger demand.

Does anyone know if in the past competing consoles have been this close with both moving this kind of volume? This feels like a good sign for market health.

So whats this Scorpio meme? Can someone please explain.

I think Sony kinda blew it letting MS gain such a massive share in the u.s market. i dont know if it's the lousy exclusive line up they have had this gen or the fact that americans love their xbox, but it should've never been this close.

The Pro's higher price tag probably scared some folks away. During the holidays they're already doing a lot of shopping as it is so spending an extra $100 was probably a bit much to ask for. And I doubt many retail employees really dedicated the time to explain the differences between both consoles beyond a simple one sentence explanation. (Something like "Games look better and 4K!")

Closer than i anticipated.

PS4 Pro just isn't a good value option yet. Once 4K TV'S become cheaper I'll pick one up.

You know, depending on what you prefer in your 4KTV, they really can be found for cheap right now. I did a quick search on walmart.com and seen a 40" 4K tvs under $300. link

Like all TV Generations, if you want the latest tech inside these tvs, you will Always Pay more. So waiting for that FALD/QLED/DV/HDR10DYNAMIC/HDMI2.1SPEC to be 'cheap' wont happen.

So the Pro is a roughly 15 - 20% then, that's pretty good.

Here in Canada, the Pro is still out of stock at Amazon; only being sold by third parties right now. My local EB games and Best Buy are also out of stock. Could be stock issues maybe.

Ancedota but the pro wasn't bundled with a game where I work, so most werent looking to spend more and walk away with less especially if 4K resolution is the biggest selling point.

Sure there's more to it than just that as far as the difference in consoles, but for average Joe consumer walking into a Best Buy they'll probably see less benefit.
