New difficulty coming:

Wow. That's amazing. They continue to blow away everything else with their support for this game.

"Lethal combat?" As if the combat wasn't already overly lethal, unless they plan to tone down normal difficulty by comparison?

That was my thought too! Whenever the guards get called, unless there's like one or two I can take out fast I'm done for immediately.

Still, pretty damn excited for this.

This is a great decision.

I still think 6 levels are not a lot, but it's incredible how much replayability they got out of those with so many great new features.

I will definitely replay the whole game on professional.

Some of the new features should be available on normal mode too like the footsteps and camera AI, but I'm still excited :)

I literally just finished doing that about 1 minute ago.

I killed him by
electrocuting him outside with the power strip in the puddle
. The
screwdriver
you need to do that is
to the left on a cart when looking out from the patio
.

Also,
there is a conversation you need to witness in the bar to trigger him walking outside
.

MAN! I was trying to do that, but he just walks PAST it rather than over it.

And just like that, I'm excited for a new mode in last year's game more than any other game on the horizon.

Nice work IOI, you are amazing.

EDIT: "Clean kills are required to take a disguise", what is a clean kill? Is it just a silent kill?

I'd guess body shots or explosions, anything that would leave blood or would mutilate the body/clothing don't count as clean kills.

Choking out or fiber wire would be the simplest. Not sure about headshots.

Everyone just subsues disguise guys anyway.

The biggest change here is the 1 save limit. Thats gonna be brutal and will make the game a lot more intense.

New difficulty mode sounds exciting. Wonder how each location will be altered.

Yeah, though as someone who save-scums through just about every stealth game, it's appreciated lol.

Makes sense, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that a body shot would spoil the disguise. Brilliant stuff.

The funny thing is because of how the older hitman games worked with saves and difficulty levels, on Pro you didn't get any saves, so it wasn't until more recently that I started using saves at all; I just restarted when shit got bad and redid the steps I had taken. The only times I really felt like I needed to save scum was doing SASO in Colorado.

The hope for the rifle case remains alive!

Seriously, though, this is massive. It sounds really punishing, like clean kills required to take disguises or more items being suspicious or illegal based on disguises.

I wonder how Pro difficulty will factor into elusive targets.

Pro difficulty won't be available for elusive targets and escalations, judging from the pic.

I'm interested in the level tweaks and alterations. Also I can't get it from the wording, but I hope this includes bonus missions.

It won't. A news post on the site says Professional won't be an option for Elusives or Escalations.

Probably for the best, honestly. I worry enough about trying to get SA on Elusives and kind of wish even that didn't matter, so I would hate to see it split out even more with a different difficulty.

Will they bring back area-specific recording locations? (i.e. get spotted on a camera in the Sapienza mansion, have to destroy evidence from inside the mansion—can't go to the lawyer's office and do it there.)

Finally getting back in this game after putting it down when Sapienza was released....man, I totally suck.

Just finished Marakeesh last night and I see a lot of the opportunities but dont have the equipment or know where any of the disguises are to pull them off.

I ended up beating it by

Turned on the intercom in the school and pushed the general through the hole when he investigated. The other guy I just pushed over the railing in the embassy in the pseudo broadcast room with the green screen.

I had forgotten how big the levels are and how much trial and error they require to figure out the more elaborate kills.

Wait a minute. A few weeks ago Torben Ellert said on Twitter that Hokkaido has 300 NPCs, but some of them only appear depending on which mode you're playing.

The Hokkaido we've seen has about half that number of NPCs.

Is this what he meant? Double the NPC count on professional difficulty?

It's a shame they are hiding that difficulty behind a level 20 mastery requirement.
Shit, are they? Not cool. Was hoping to be able to play all future levels in Professional difficulty first :(

EDIT: Future reminder to myself to actually read stuff in the future.

I'm glad they waited til after Giant Bomb's GotY to let the GB references seep in. It's cleaner that way. What are the specifics of the Caravella contract?

Kill Dalia with a thrown kitchen knife while dressed as Helmut
Kill Novikov with a thrown fireaxe while dressed as the Sheik.

Does the contract specify the knife and fire axe be thrown? Because that wasn't a stipulation for Vinny's run in the Hitsmas video IIRC.

Can someone clarify the XP levels for me? Can you replay a level repeating the same kills and still get XP to level up? Or do you only get it if you perform the actions listed in the challenges?

You only get XP from each challenge once. Repeating the same challenge will not earn you any XP.

Do Challenges to get XP. Once you complete a challenge you don't get anymore XP for doing that same challenge.

You get XP the first time you complete any feat/challenge/objective on a level. There are enough that you don't have to do everything to get mastery lvl 20.

The way that contract creation works right now forces you to specify melee or throw for a specific weapon. It might be a little too specific when sometimes you just want to specify "fire axe".

Amazing update! I hoped that they got something big up their sleeves and they didn't disappoint me. Not at all.

quick question: Will there be a new OT when the disc version launches?

Thanks. I have only played with the contract creatior once, I can't remember how granular the stuff for setting the method gets.

After not being able to play for a while for several reasons, I can finally get back to the game.
Wasn't a huge fan of how Opportunities were handled. Finding them by yourself is often very difficult, but following them is byfar the most boring way to play the game.

This needs a new thread. Has it been made? I can make it. (EDIT: I see it has)

I'm 100% hyped for this. I chose this game for my GOTY, but even while describing why, I had to rant there wasn't a mode like this, with limited saves.

I really have to give credit to IO for this one. They have spent so much time listening to the community feedback and applying changes where needed. Not only that, but the episodic format has really worked in their favour. I will admit I was a little bit sceptical when HITMAN was first announced, but it just works so well. The replayability of this game - with the focus both on on developer-made and community-made missions - is fantastic. Which is why HITMAN got my GOTY.

Speculation as to how each level will be changed for professional? I can think of a few obvious ways:

Paris: The fireworks remote could be moved, harder to get, or not there at all.
Sapienza: The kitchen assistant disguise in Rocco's apartment could be removed, and the path to infiltrate the villa through the kitchen could be guarded.
Bangkok: Ken Morgan could have a new route that allows for more interesting kills, while removing the zero-risk kills (poison and falling light) in the restaurant.

What about the other levels?

Also, I really wonder how they will handle opportunities on professional. Most of them will probably be changed in some way so that you can't just do the same thing as you would on normal. Would some of them have to be removed entirely?

Marrakesh: They'll probably ditch the poison kill opportunity for Zaydan. I could see them also making it tougher to sneak into the Consulate without a disguise.

Colorado: They could make it so you can't pose as an Interpol agent unless disguised as the technician. Being able to do all of that as the point man makes things a lot easier. Also make the elite guard disguise harder to get than being able to change into it in the truck.

Hokkaido: This is the easiest mission, and big part of that is how easy it is to sneak through the Morgue. You can eliminate targets, destroy evidence and escape quickly and easily from there. They could probably make it harder to get the remote control for the curator's meds, and add another NPC or two to that area. Probably near the stem cell containment room.
