Eothas has returned. The god of light and rebirth was thought dead, but he now inhabits the stone titan that sat buried under your keep, Caed Nua, for millennia. Ripping his way out of the ground, he destroyed your stronghold and left you at the brink of death. To save your soul, you must track down the wayward god and demand answers - answers which could throw mortals and the gods themselves into chaos.

Your hunt takes you to the Deadfire Archipelago. Located even farther east than the colonies of the Eastern Reach, Deadfire comprises hundreds of islands spanning thousands of miles - ranging from lush tropics to barren deserts. Many of these lands have never been charted, while others are inhabited by rich native cultures and a new wave of colonial settlers.

Obsidian Entertainment proudly presents the sequel to our crowdfunded and critically-acclaimed role-playing game, Pillars of Eternity. Welcome to Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. With Pillars II, we are revisiting the rich narrative, beautiful environments, and tactical combat that made Pillars of Eternity one of the highest-rated PC games of all time. Having a development team of over 77,000 people made the first game possible, but your feedback and community support made it amazing! Our team wants to take you on a second journey to Eora. We couldn't be more excited to get all of you involved in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
USD$99 for early access. Expected, but, still, oof. I'd rather play it safe and focus on snagging a 1080 Ti. Hopefully there'll be a slacker-backer campaign.

That's quite expensive for the Collector's Edition, as much as I want it... might have to go physical standard this time.

Everything in the campaign video looked pretty great. Now just to decide what I think I can get away with when the wife looks at the bank account tomorrow.

Man, I love the new stuff they are doing with the engine and environmental effects.

Sounds like it's already had a solid one year of development.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
The game looks like a serious step up graphically over the first game and the original was a solid if not very fancy looking CRPG. This looks much more evocative and exciting especially that battle with the giant statue that picks up a character and smashes them into the ground. Not sure I'll back as I don't have as much free cash lately but I'm tempted for sure.

Adored the first game... but also pretty tight on funds and haven't yet gotten around to playing the White March expansions or Tyranny...

so so good. I'm loving the improvements they showed on the campaign video.

The fact that they already managed to set up the world in the previous game means (hopefully) they'll end up taking some more narrative risks in Deadfire.

Can't fucking wait!

PS: Gotta finish PoE but those loading times are killing me. If they really improve them on Deadfire, I'll be a happy camper.

Hmmmmm... Pillars of Eternity 1 was the one Kickstarter game I funded the most, and yet I haven't even finished it yet. I like everything they're saying here but still... PoE 1 just seemed a bit dry at times. If PoE 2 had a bit more character I'd feel really good funding it at one of the higher tiers maybe.

I do really like that they're keeping with the same protagonist. Always like that in RPG sequels.

That's one of the things they addressed in the video. Little to no loading times for interiors.

I was going to be there Day 1, but considering that my backlog is going to be my end, I'll sit this one out until a steam sale. It's not like you save too much pledging anyways.

Backed for $250 like the first game. I'm very glad to see they're releasing volume 2 of the guidebook. I was curious if that would actually be continued or not.

Call me superficial, but I'm excited as hell that the character models are so improved. Finally an Obsidian isometric rpg with models that are better than what they had in NWN2.

According the investor info they need to sell 600k copies just to break even. Sounds like a lot when PoE sold 950k+ and it had a ton of hype for bringing dead genre back to life.

I had problems with interiors AND exteriors, lol. Travelling from the Dyrwood to the White March took me like 3 minutes of loading.

In any case, I'll definitely have a better PC when Deadfire arrives, so it won't be as bad as PoE1... I hope so 😅

Backer #556 reporting. First thing I back in almost 2 years.

Loved the first game and especially how rich the world lore was.

Hmm, top digital tier is only 44$?

Okay I guess I'm in for that then.

Edit: Only real gameplay change they're talking about is multi-classing. Cool, but that's it? We're just going to go straight for BG1->BG2 here? I guess that's fine. I'm curious too if all the classes will be back, will we get a level boost or item cross-over if we xfer a character...

Eder's and Pallegina's new models look significantly older than the PoE ones. Like the at the very least 10, but more like 15-20 years older.

"In addition to localizing the game in both French and German languages, funding this campaign allows us to include multiclassing. This would offer players and companions alike the chance to branch their available skills over time, opening the way for more opportunities for the role-playing and customization that our fans deserve. Choice, as ever, is vital to the experience of role-playing games. By taking levels in multiple classes, your characters will be able to evolve in new and unique ways. "

you wanted kits? FUND IT AND YOU'LL HAVE MULTI-CLASSING

Wonder if this one will have a goddamn backer-exclusive Steam achievement. I know it's petty, but if I can't get 100%, I don't want it. I still haven't bought the original yet.

Yes, they really look nice. I'm wondering if the dialogue interface will be any different. I can't remember in Pillars, but I like how in Tyranny the character you're speaking to will kind of react with different expressions and poses based off their reaction to what your speaking to them about. One would think if Obsidian is investing a little more in the character models they might have something like that with the dialogue system here- not full on animated cutscenes or anything but something to offer up a closer look at who you're speaking with.

They definitely look a whole lot more detailed at the least.

Aside from a few companions, wasn't Avellone's work mostly scrapped? I seem to recall that being a big reason why he left.

Use SAM. It's frowned upon (socially, that is, not within the eyes of Valve), but you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who disagrees with the notion that arbitrarily-limited achievements are utterly awful.

Pillars is one of my favorite RPG of the past decade. I love the premise of the sequel, and deadfire seems like the perfect type of location. Im there day 0. Character models look so vastly improved... like they were made 2 generations apart.
Guess Ill try and finish PoE again, for the 5th time now. :p
Spoilers for the first game ending
I wonder what will happen to the baby at the end of PoE. I always found it odd that they explicit talked about it in the credits scene

The faces look really detailed, I'm thinking they are going to do some kind of "close ups" during dialogue.
