Dark Souls III |OT+2| Why Can't We Poise the Game?

I'm Pyromancer with the following stats:

Yes, I have no idea what I am doing rofl
I think I have one respec left though.

That's not too bad to be honest.

As a magic user, you normally want to keep your DEX and STR to just the enough level to use the weapons you want. There's hybrid builds, obviously, and there's the fact that you can be level 400 if you want, but normally that's what you should aim.

Weapons for pyros:

- Witch's Locks
- Onyx Blade (DLC AoA)
- Thrall Axe (Infuse it with chaos)

What I would do: look for any weapon you like of these three, or the one you have (instead of raw you can try chaos infusion or raw + carthus flame), respec to get just enough DEX and STR to met the requeriments.

Then, put the remaining points on INT and FTH. You want 40/40 for those 2 stats, but no need to get them that high as long you have +30 on both is fine at that level. VIG and END is fine, but I would try to get some more points on ATTN. As you keep leveling try to get FTH and INT to 40 (no more) and VIG to 40. If you don't care about meta PvP levels, just keep raise other stats and try more weapons in the next runs.

Also equip Witch's Ring and Great Swamp rings for max pyro damage.

Faith builds are kind of meh in this game, aren't they? You don't get many useful offensive faith skills until endgame, and the blessed infusion sucks.

I mean I have a decent investment in attunement/faith on my character but I've been using it for Tears of Denial + Replenishment the entire game. And now I'm in Lothric Castle, which as I understand it is close to the end.

I also got the
firekeeper's eyes in the dark Firelink Shrine (creepy as fuck place by the way, and Gundyr was a cool fight), and the ensuing conversations with the firekeeper and Ludleth were very interesting. Not sure what I want to do yet, but I'm leaning towards linking the fire. If the dark Firelink Shrine was any indication, I don't want a world of endless darkness.

If I'm understanding Ludleth right, he didn't either, which is why he decided to become a Lord of Cinder.

I'm also not sure why normal Firelink has a fog wall to the outside now.

Just picked this up for PC for $30. I had about 70hrs on X1 when it came out.

This is the first time since getting my new PC I've had problems with any game. I'm getting the random crashes at the beginning of the game. So far I've tried everything except restarting as a knight class and rolling back my Nvidia drivers (GTX 1060).

Currently upgrading them to the one's released a few days ago in hopes that works. If not I'll try downgrading them. I refuse to start as a knight to fix it. But I feel like that it will end up being the resolution.

Such an annoying problem and there isn't anything that's fixed it from From's side in the almost year the game has been out.

Edit: the new drivers that came out on the 24th seem to have fixed it. Or at least I can get farther than I had been.

OMG fuck Aldrich with my mage. Doing no damage, dying because of fucking rng all the time.

Edit: I think I'll respec. This is ridiculous. What an unbalanced fuck

does it on PC too and i have it installed on an SSD with 16GB (2666) RAM. it must be just an issue with the game engine.
And I'm totally fine with it, as I don't have to wait so long to load the Shrine that way.

When I played the game for the first time I thought that some sort of boss is waiting outside to kill me lol

I beat that boss with my Sorcerer, so it's doable. You just need to avoid damage as best you can and take your time, rather than being super aggressive and going HAM like with a melee character. A raw weapon to hack at him if/when you run out of FP helps, too.

Damage actually wasn't that bad, but I really pumped int, and used the two sorcery rings, plus sage ring.

No need to respec. Grab a pyro glove, and Vestiges or Chaos Orb and go to town with him. He's super resistant to sorceries, yet weak as fuck to fire.

Hi guys, I just picked this game up. I played a little DS1 back when it released, and played through Bloodborne, so I have some idea of what to expect, but not really.

I want to play shieldless, use dodging for defense, and have a relatively fast weapon. Is mercenary a good choice for this sort of build? What are the advantages and disadvantages of dual wielding vs single wielding without shield? I'm sort of trying to build something like a Bloodborne character I guess. Would it be better to go full strength with a 2 handed weapon?

pyro glove you say? I'll try that!

Thanks!

There are multiple two handed dual weapons in the game. Don't know which is the first one though. Some are pretty late in the game, sadly.

Personally, I don't like to use faster weapons like short swords and the like two-handed, feels wrong to me somehow.

You could use a parrying shield and use it like the gun in Bloodborne for the juicy criticals ;)

2 handing a STR weapon probably isn't the way to go if you want a fast character since those big weapons tend to be slow. But you can still be very dodgy with a slow weapon, you're just picking your moments to attack a lot more carefully because you can be punished easier for missing because of the recovery times.

Advantages of single/dual wielding? I don't really look at it like that, it's just a difference in moveset to me. If you like the moveset of a weapon use it - any weapon is viable.

Re: classes - they don't make any difference. They just govern what starting gear you have, any class can be any build, the stat differences at the start are negligible, but you might as well go for the one that starts off in the direction you think you will be taking your character.

Yes, I second the pyro glove suggestion. My mage also used the occasional pyros for situations just like that, when sorceries just won't cut it, and she tore him apart.

BTW you already did it, but in case other people are in a similar situation:

- You can use Twisted Wall of Light, for the rain of arrows attacks, just spam the spell (well, cast it every 2 seconds) and you can completetly nullify it.

https://youtu.be/m8v5AC0O3Zg?t=62

pretty impressive, timings on point.

I'm just running away, hopefully dodging the laser beam in the end :D

Anyway, did the dungeon after Aldrich. Very satisfying to see the damn jailers suffer from my storyteller's staff. Hrrhrr
Was pretty much easy mode with hidden body.

So, uh... the github guide I'm following says Alva, Seeker of the Spurned will invade, but fextralife's wiki says that'll only happen if you didn't defeat the previous areas boss. So... who is in the right here?

General consensus says fextralife is right surprisingly.

Well, I embered after going to rescue Hot</Mr Robot> Karla. Just got invaded and killed him pretty easy. So, in my case: wiki is wrong. *shrug*

As a mage with a focus on INT, is it worth infusing the weapon with a crystal gem? Currently rockin a raw Estoc and I Wonder if crystal is better with the scaling on INT.

Never used a split damage weapon.

Assuming they mean Pontiff, I don't think this is correct. Alva invades in the area where
Yhorm
is the boss, not the Pontiff. They are unrelated.

Fextralife should always be taken with a grain of salt.

woah, the sorcerer really is one unbalanced mess. Sometimes it's cheatmode, sometimes it's just like hitting a wall.

With all my melee characters I dealt somewhat consistent damage against everything. With the mage though... some enemies like Champion G are simply impossible to beat with magic, others like the dancer loose all their power.

I don't know if I like that tbh.

Finished the game over the weekend. I really enjoyed it overall - I think it's my favorite Souls game (though Bloodborne is still better in my book). The game is really good at punishing panic rolls, though I feel like by endgame the bosses are a little undertuned. I was super sloppy against the last boss, but was able to win anyway because I had so many Estus uses by then.

Will probably do a second playthrough with a shieldless character wielding a very fast weapon. I grew to like slashing from neutral and cancelling out of the slash into a dodge roll later in the game, and a faster weapon would help with that.

It is the cosmopolitan of the DS world so it's not surprising.
Fextralife is bad? Damn, I've been reading it a lot.

What's a better resource?

I bought this on release last year and never started, I actually forgot I had it and went to buy it again.

I just took out
Pontiff Sulyvahn
last night and I'm progressing pretty well so far. That whole area was a pain in the ass though. I have a dex build and I'm currently using the Black Blade (+6). Kind of disappointed with the weapon selection for dex (Thief) characters so far though. Anyone have any recommendations?

Btw, this game is already my favorite Souls game (BB excluded). It's beautiful and it's a ton of fun.

Barring the hollowslayer, there are a lot of greatswords that are dex based. I bet there are a bunch of twin swords that are good too.

Well, if you plan to play NG+, you can at least upgrade it to +10 right away ;)

Anyway, with a sharp infusion lots of weapons work great with dex, I think.

Yeah, my current blade I'm using has a sharp infusion. It does decent enough damage but the movement is just blah.

I also like to be speedy, I don't know if the great swords are going to allow me to do that. I like the stagger potential, though.

Some of the smaller greatswords are okay speed-wise, but they are still noticeably slower than smaller weapons. I eventually ended up taking advantage of their range and impact to make up for their slowness.

What about piercing swords? Have you tried rapiers or the estoc?

Katanas, piercing swords, and curved swords are often dex-based.

It's basically a gossip rag really Wikidot is generally better or stuff with numbers and research even then there's some bias depending on who does it.

Try some of the DEX orientated twinblades you might like those.

Carthus Curved Sword is a great weapon, too. Fast and hits like a truck.

Needs some farming though.

I never thought of the Carthus Curved Sword. I actually just finished that area (it was a bitch) and that sword did drop. I'll mess with it a bit today.

Also on my list.

Thanks guys!

I'm gonna try a dex character too. Started with the job that used the sellsword twinblades. Fun, but damn they did no damage against Vordt.

Might try going with the Bandit's Knife for maximum speed and slashy silliness.

In Bloodborne, generally speaking, weapons were not objectively better or worse than other weapons. Each was unique. Is it the same way in DS3, or are there objectively inferior weapons? I am just starting and cannot tell yet.

And on topic, I chose Mercenary as my starting class which appears to be Dex based, right? I realize it's not set in stone. I killed that naked master dude by pushing him off the cliff and got a katana for the trouble. Seems better than my starter twin blades, but the moveset is so different I can't really tell yet.

Sorry, first DS game really, but coming from Bloodborne and I don't fully grasp the differences.

I'm hanging out in Undead Settlement trying to do some co-op to gain souls. I put my sign down and it keeps disappearing. I assume someone is trying to fuck with me and invade. All I want to do it be summoned for co-op. UGH. What to do?

Soul form/Unembered? If yes: Then you can't put the sign down in that area.

If no: Then kill yourself and put the sign down. They can't invade what the game can't find (Embered).
----

Anyway, backed up save to wait for the second DLC to release to go through them both before finishing. BUT I want to do the endings on this save file. So:

Do the Yuria ending. Restore save, do the other two endings after curing self with the Firekeeper
, Yeah? I have that right?

Embered. I'd rather not kill myself if I can help it. Is that a hotbed of invasion? it's been really annoying. This sort of thing didn't happen to me in DS1 or DS2.

A minute ago I was sitting at the bonfire, which should be safe - and was forced to get up.

Depending on your Soul Level, yeah. It's a pretty early summoning/invasion spot. And AFAIK it doesn't limit to one summon/invasion.

Oh well. I prefer to jump into other peoples' games to scout an area without risking souls, and then after a few times I'll tackle it solo. Or maybe with another. Just how I like to play now.

Easiest Dark Souls game

Fixed. ;)

I've only played 15 hours but this game is cake compared to 1 & 2. You don't have to get embers to start upgrading your weapons, you don't have to go through 1/3 of the game before you can warp to bonfires, you can sell items any time and right away, you get the white soapstone immediately, your health doesn't diminish with each subsequent death..... So far 3 is like a baby game. Playing 3 first and going back to play 1 or 2 would be really rough for a new player.

Help me understand how weapons work.

I found the Ugikatana and the Deep Battle Axe. Ugi has 112+16 physical attack and scales with Dex and Str. The Deep Axe has 103 physical and 103 dark with - scaling. Does that mean the axe has a total of 206 totL attack, with half of that being physical and half being dark? And the +16 on the Ugi is the bonus from the Dex and Str scaling? So at this point in the game the axe is stronger, but if I level up the scaling, my Dex, and my Str, then eventually the Ugi will become stronger?
