PS4 firmware 4.50 add Boost Mode for PS4 Pro.

It depends on how well this works, but once the patch releases I will probably finally upgrade to a Pro. Even if it's just stable 30 in games that struggle to get 30 (and same for 60) it's worth it to me.

pretty much whats gonna happen lol

i see very little to get excited about

99.9% of unpatched 30 fps games say hi

3 frames can make a big difference in sub-30 games

Witcher 3, Bloodborne, DS3 in some spots, The Evil Within, Fallout 4...I mean this could be what they need if it works like we think it does

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
This feature needs to come with a system level 30/60 fps lock as an option.

That's maybe asking too much, wouldn't it require change in the game(s) to lock frame rate ? Then we're back at games needing patches.

They have an option to turn it off so I guess they foresee some people might not like spikes, good that they're not enforcing this and rather letting it be an option.

Agreed, although don't forget Fallout 4 is getting full pro support shortly.

What are the chances that Evolution would raise the cap for DC to 60fps? since the game probably runs at much higher than 30fps internally it would benefit the most.

This won't affect too many games. But I have a few it will help. Borderlands Handsome Jack will be basically 60 now without dips, not that I play it anymore. inFamous should now be closer to 60, not that I play it anymore. There's a few indie games that have had issues too, like broforce I think?

Zero, the studio is defunct now and most of the staff now work for Codemasters.

Beside locked 30FPS games run higher than 30..Usually hitting high 30s to 40s, nothing special about Driveclub in that regards.

Infamous already received a pro patch so it's already running as best as it can on the Pro while hitting an avg of 50fps or so.

I'm definitely going to try out until dawn with this, what are some other games with unlocked framerates ? I feel like so many games use dynamic resolution now I'm struggling to think of some more recent games with unlocked framerates. This is hype none the less.

No. You can do this at the driver level today on a PC, without changing the game in any way.

People who think this will help bloodbor e (since its the most talked game of this thread) should keep in mind that the big issue of bloodborne is framepacing. And the boost Pro mode aint gonna do jack shit about it so the game will still feel stutter-y and like its dropping frames when in reality it is smooth 30 fps...

The launch of the Pro didn't set the world on fire, anyway. Although they couldn't know this before.

I'm not entirely sure of your fire vs. not fire scale. How little of the record breaking 9.7 million shipped PS4's last quarter do you think was the PS4 Pro?

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
If true, I'll reconsider buying a Pro even with a 1080p tv.

I'm not saying it's worthless right now, but it would be a huge plus.

You don't even know what is being done yet but you are already saying that it will do nothing for frame-pacing? how can you know that?

Because framepacing is not an issue of performance per se. A game could run at perfect rock solid 30 frames per second and feel like crap due to severe framepacing problems.

Case in point: FFXV

This game is rock solid in terms of performance but framepacing is horrible.

Framepacing issues need a developer patch to address the situation.

Would personally be shocked. In fact, better hardware usually introduces frame pacing issues rather than remove them.

I doubt that'll happen here but solving it? Nah, we'll need a patch.

Some 30fps games can reach 60fps easily if GPU bound. The only problem is that most of the games are locked at 30fps, so a stable 30fps is all that's on the cards.

However a stable 60fps is now possible in many 60fps games.....

Battlefield 4
Hardline
Borderlands
MGSV PP/Ground Zeroes
DOOM
Project Cars
RE-R2
SFV
and the list goes on.....

Personally, what I would like is a base res increase of 1080p for all games with this boost for games below 1080p on PS4, so a standard rez boost as well, but I imagine that would be difficult to implement without a patch. I'd also like a framerate unlocker for all games to see how much better they would run beyond locked 30fps, but then again, that would/may need a patch for said games.......

Games like Driveclub could very well run at 60fps if that was done on a firmware level....

All in all, sounds very good, but it doesn't detract or prevent full-on pro patches that would boost graphical settings, framerate optimizations and higher resolutions. Such patches would always be much more ideal, but for the vast majority of titles which will not be patched, this is a gold feature tbh....

What kind of list is that?

I dare you to find a slowdown on Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain

Also, Borderlands collection, Doom and Street Fighters V are nearly locked at 60 with no resolution change. (Borderlands maintain at 60 with 2 players, up to 4 at 30 fps without slowdown)

We are here talking about games like

Tomb Raider The Definitive Edition
Mirrors Edge Catalyst
Assassin's Creed Unity
Killzone Shadow Fall (without 30 fps lock)
Dying Light
Bioshock The Collection (specifically Bioshock Infinite)
Broforce (I would love to see this kkk, performance reaches at 4 fps on some scenes)
Final Fantasy XIV (also interested in this one)
The Evil Within (those 20 fps scenes)
The Witcher 3
Warframe

Strange. Not too long ago you were actively against hardware improvement being able to fix frame pacing. Now that Sony is releasing hardware improvements for all games you're suddenly open to it?

You're probably to busy spouting nonsense and patting yourself on the back to realize what you actually say all the time.
someone claimed that if Bloodborne was a Xbox One game it would get a update without the devs needing to touch the game & I was explaining that the problem with the game was frame pacing & not that it needed a higher GPU clock rate. & that it would probably make that worse.

But you still don't know what is being done so until it's tested you don't know how BB will be affected

I said he don't know what is being done in Boost mode so he can't say that it will do nothing for frame pacing.

I know what I said I seen that post a few hours ago & I still say the same thing it could make it better or it could make it worse.
