River City Underground (PC) Launch trailer - Coming on February 27!

What is your issue with it, might I ask?

I'm playing the beta, it's really responsive and plays really well. I'm excited for the full release, as a somewhat scholar of beat 'em ups myself.

How are you finding the level art in general? It seems somewhat conservative, but I'm basing this off the trailers.

Er.. not sure what you were expecting? It's really nice looking, I think.
River City Ransom was always pretty empty. Also, the backgrounds can't be too busy, or else you wouldn't know where to focus.

Holy shit, the game looks amazing. Way to go above and beyond team, I hope it turns out successful. It's awesome to see a new beat-em up with such a great selection of legitimately unique character too.

Sega, take note, and take inspiration for a Streets of Rage sequel.

Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited for the game - conservative wasn't the right choice of words.

RCRU will be available on Steam Feb 27. Game price will be $15 at launch, $19.99 later on.

oh sweet thought only the $40 dollar backer tier was getting a beta like this week awesome to see they are just going to put the game out this month took them years and years

Looks way awesome and what people should be spending their steambux over Double Dragon 4.

Looking downright great. Between this and Double Dragon 4 it seems like a scrolling beat'em up mini-revival, hopefully they will keep coming.

Also I see that "launch trailer" has lost all meaning. :p

That is game development, after all. A game with this much animation and art and moving pieces is a nightmare on it's own, now think about having a really small team?

Trailer looks awesome.

I didn't back the game, but it has been on my radar. Sometimes I was affraid to game would end up being cancelled, but then a new video would pop up. Great to see it's finally releasing.
I like how all the characters have a very distinct fighting style. The animation is very well done and nails the impact of the moves.

I like DDIV and feel it would complement RCR:U, being more modernized, very well.

For a while it seemed like this one had died. Very happy it didn't!

Did the original guy behind the project end up leaving?

Same team working on it, in fact they got some extra people, like community management to help out.

Game came under the wing of Arc System Works, though, after they bought the rights.

Really want this on PS4 so I can play with my brother :)

Definitely picking up the Steam version, though. Looks amazing, and the feature list is orgasm-worthy.

I backed this on Kickstarter sooooo many years ago lol.

It's hilarious to see the expected release date is listed as September 2014.

Stupid question, but how are they able to make this game rights wise? I ask since they still make Kunio games?

Conatus (ugh, that name) had a licensing agreement with the previous rightsholder. Akysys bought the Kunio-kun rights, and then Conatus (ugh, that name) had to renegotiate the rights after that. Took a few weeks, as I recall.

Thanks! Added.

Not the game itself, but everything else in the trailer. The character illustrations (design and art style), the logo and fonts.

Anybody know if you can mix local co-op players with online friends? I'd be playing this with the gf and it would be nice to link up with buddies out of state for 4 player madness

So is this PS4/Steam or just PC? I found the game as coming in Feb 2017 on the Steam side, is it going to be available on the PSN (dont see it there yet)?

I'm not 100% certain about this; i recall reading somewhere that the PS4 goals on the kickstarter weren't reached. So, PC only for now.

The game is currently Steam exclusive, but the developers would like to port to consoles if the Steam version sells well enough.

The game looks cool, but I am worried that despite being a Paypal backer I've long since stopped receiving any updates. I'll have to contact them about it.

I have no idea but I'm in a very similar situation so I'll post an update once the game releases and I've had a chance to try it. I suspect it'll be a "local or online, not both" sort of situation, but it's worth a shot.

About the visuals being hard to follow or too busy or whatever, the gameplay trailer from a little while back is probably better cause it's not zoomed in:

Anyway I'm glad this is actually coming out, it was ambitious enough that it seemed doomed like so many other Kickstarter (or just fan game) projects. I love the animation and wish other games did the same, whoever said it was like Metal Slug is on the money, it seems like you just don't see super fluidly animated chunky pixel art much. Sonic Mania seems to have some of it going too but either not as much or isn't as noticeable from what's been shown so far.

It'd be pretty cool if Arc System Works could help them out there somehow, whether picking it up for publishing or just hooking them up with contacts for console dev stuff or something.

Why the characters have a red line on their faces? It looks like they have a cold or they are ashamed (like in hentai stuff).

I... can't believe this isn't coming to consoles. I can't believe I got myself excited over nothing.

It's a low budget game and the Kickstarter didn't do well enough to meet its console stretch goals. Did you back it?
