I think the trailer or a demo will be there but the unity post also said info would be out this week.

thats my guess: Unity post this week (maybe trailer), demo at Lupe's event

Since we got a blog post at weird time a few weeks ago, I'm inclined to believe it might be coming later in the week. WSO might drop a few hints on us, hopefully.

I'm not even dissing Lupe, he's fine. Just...get someone else already.

I do have a hard time seeing people play it as long as SF4. They would really have to mix it up.

This brings me back to the days of SF4. Right before Super launched, people were saying the same thing.

But they do need to keep this game fresh. I suspect a full overhaul with more v-shit coming next year. No way they'll keep it the same with just frame adjustments.

Again, the reveal is this week, it was confirmed in the Capcom Unity blog post.

Huh, guess I totally missed that somehow. Glad we'll be seeing her sooner rather than later, I suppose.

Wonder if Urien's gonna be getting some sort of nostalgia costume to match Alex and Ibuki's. He already has his banana hammock as a secret alt, but maybe they could give him like, a Gill alt to rep everyone's favourite messiah.

Justin was doing quite a few double-shimmies at Undefeated. Can't wait for the triple.

I remember that happening much later. Super came out only about a year after te home release of vanilla. There was barely enough time.

Literally happened a few months in. It didn't take long for people to screech about the lack of depth and call it babbys first fighter. People don't need time to get angry at a fighting game. It can be out a week before the whining starts.

SFV is different because there's probably another year until they start putting in more shit like Super did with another Ultra.

ssf4 > s2 sfv
You have to compare S2 with release SFV, though. I mean, you're probably still correct, but remember this game without the DLC characters, stages, patches etc.

That's not a fair comparison because Super got Dudley and there's 0% chance of Dudley for S2.
You take that back right now.

edit: Wait, S2...you're right. I want SFV Dudley at some point, though!

But we're getting everyone's 2nd favorite SF3 character, the lady from Gill's intro.

HEY. IT'S NOT THE SAME LADY.

WE'RE GETTING HELEN.
The lady from Gill's intro, only not really.

Though I'm expecting a lot of this when we finally get our hands on Helen after a trailer.

So... it is gonna be Helen then? For sure?

It's kinda iffy. The 5 new characters for S2 are characters that have never been in the street fighter universe before, and "Helen" has indeed never showed up before SF5.

It depends on how different they treat Helen, and whether she's just "Kolin before the haircut" or somehow a different personality altogether. It would not be surprising for her story/premium costume to be her Kolin look.

Though for right now, it's definitely Helen.

Drago sounds great so far, T&Y was great, The Cool was fantastic, and F&L is among my top 10 favorite of all time. It was fantastic.

Man, people are taking this quote too literal. I still see it as "you have never played as these characters before". Helen wouldn't make any sense otherwise.

The silhouette looks very much like Helen and she's technically "new" so I think it's a safe bet. And they added an icy background to her silhouette and gave that same background to the SFV logo, implying she's up next.

I guess SF is long overdue for an ice character (excluding one half of Gill).

"Akuma is only the start of season 2," Street Fighter 5's director, Takayuki Nakayama, said through a translator. "The other 5 characters will be brand new to the Street Fighter universe," he added.

If he meant playable, he would have said so. Brand new to the street fighter ROSTER would imply they've never been playable, street fighter UNIVERSE implies they've never even shown up in any other mainline street fighter.

I still have the feeling that we're gonna see a guest character down the road.

Eh, I think it'll be a mix of both. Characters we've never had playable as well as brand new characters. So far, none of them really look like dolls except for one, so its not like we're getting a bunch of those. And Helen/Kolin would be brand new, and her supposed leak moveset is pretty unique for SF. I'm hype for the 15th.

So it's not going to be Helen then? I'm telling you...too literal.

What? She wouldn't be new to the universe, she was in SF3 and comics.

Again, we don't know how far the Helen/Kolin differentiation goes. If it's the same person with only a change in haircut, then yeah they pretty much lied and that was like the biggest cop out ever.

But in case it goes deeper than that, and there's some illuminati fuckery going on then it's possible that she might not be the same person as Kolin. They might even pull a Therese Voerman from Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines.

I normally wouldn't spoil stuff from that game, but let's be honest if someone hasn't played that game already then they're not going to.

I don't think they have to be exact with their wording and I haven't read any interviewer corner a Capcom rep to have them explain what they mean by that. It certainly isn't obvious. If we really want to analyze that sentence, Helen isn't brand new to the SF universe either. She's been in the SF universe for almost a year now.

My guess is they mean they haven't been playable before and my expectation is we'll get some guest characters from other Capcom games, other companies, or both.

I take brand new to the SF universe as "SF5 is the first time they ever showed up"

so characters like Helen and Azam are definitely brand new to the SF universe in that sense.

Best thing ever.

That's certainly possible but I don't know if that interpretation is obvious. Regardless, I'd hew to whatever interpretation allows for Helen in the roster because that silhouette is sure as shit Helen.

Watch them all be side piece characters.

Here's Karin's butler!
Also, how about Mika's rival!
Get ready to play as the new boss of S2 - some guy that served a plate of food to Ryu a few years ago!

I can't hate, I know they'll play fine, I just wanted people who aren't directly affiliated to the main cast.

Yeah, looking at the silhouettes now it's pretty clear that's Helen. Looking forward to seeing what they're giving her

Ice powers.

This isn't Kolin/Helen's first Street Fighter, she appeared in SFIII (she just wasn't playable).
Again, that's where it gets iffy. Kolin did appear in SF3. Helen didn't.

Just gonna have to wait for her story mode to try and find out how they're justifying the whole "new to the SF Universe" thing for her.

Definitively Helen/Kolin doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Helen/Kolin is also technically a new character to be playable in the roster of a SF game.

I'm totally fine with Kolin/Helen as a character to be honest. She has the potential for an interesting moveset, and since her personality's so ill-defined they could do some really fun stuff with her battle quotes and interactions.

It's that fourth silhouette I'm most worried about, to be honest. If it does turn out to be Satsuki I'd be very disappointed unless she's completely visually and mechanically distinct from the other Bison Dolls we've had playable.

I mean I've already payed for this pass so I might as well see what characters they bring out.

But I feel like there's no hype anymore for these new characters as compared to S1 when people were constantly theorizing about their v-systems and just generally excited. One would think completely new movesets and new archetypes would get the hardcore fans interested at least.

Well, it's pretty hard to speculate if you don't know anything about the characters.
These ice powers sound like some of the most creative stuff yet. But we have to see it.
