i can't kill tachibana. I am level 40. This fight is shit. I'm going to quit him and come back when I'm 20 levels higher or something.

Spear wrecks him.

https://twitter.com/Kyoufu2011/status/830855224491388928

my advice:

always start the fight with a headshot + final blow

always dash forward into him when trying to evade his Iai charge attack.

use the Ki reducing Onmyo talisman if you have it

use Spirit Stones to build your Amrita gauge so you can pop LW when you feel confident it will finish him off

Dang, that's a sword.

Also, is this in colorblind mode or is green the "final form" of weapons in Nioh? I thought purple was the highest a weapon could go.

Green is the highest rarity level. You unlock the possibility of getting green drops near the end. Enticing you to play NG+

Got a couple of questions if anyone can help.
1) I'm using kusarigama/dual blades. When I look at dual blade damage, is that the combined damage, or per blade (since most attacks are two hits)?
2) I got a lot of purple weapons from revenants (just finished the 1st region). Should I continue to break them for parts, or are they worth selling?

Bloodborne is shit
It's probably already been mentioned in this thread but I was wondering where my Amazon order for Nioh was so I checked the shipping and they're guessing anywhere from March 7th to April.

I guess the game is selling well.

Not sure how to convince you....
Its both buttons at same time, you wouldn't get extra ki if you change stances before the ki recovery bar begins to fill. Which can actually be beneficial, for example, if you want to flux from low - medium -high and then go back to low. You can save time by switching to high before ki regen, then fluxing to mid-low.

If you press and hold R1 first, and then stance switch, you get the extra ki at any point. It doesn't matter if it's a perfect ki pulse or immediately at the start of ki recovery. Anyways, I wanted to figure this out because I was occasionally not getting the extra ki from flux and it was just gnawing at me.

Yep. Be advised the droprate is worse than the worst Korean F2P MMO.

Its really stupid. There's no reason to have this shit droprates on a retail game.

Hahaha.

Thanks for the warning!

Is there any other Smithing texts that you have to grind out like this? Or just any cool kinda secret smithing texts period? Im only in the 4th region right now, and Ive just been getting the ones that are in the quest descriptions.

Lifeseal wrecks that guy, a hit or kunai and he's likely out for the count. He's my only one shot with fake tachibana so far. I died 340 times to him in the demo ofcourse so I know the battle.

There's a boulder to your left when you go in to the encounter. You can run circles around it and tag him until he goes down.

Finally clicking with some of the depth in combat. Sloth helps a lot when you lack speedy reactions. In fact in honour of the almighty spell I put forth:

OT 2 The Battle of Sloth

(lol)

Lifeseal is Ki to success in that fight

I imagine that using an Earth Amulet would be a decent alternative if you didn't want to spend the points in the magic tree since the Earth status effect is increased Ki cost. Lifeseal is a really good skill though. But yeah, keep out of range and punish when his Ki is low to stun him.

Almost all the named human NPCs you fight can drop smithing texts for their armor/weapons. Even the dojo masters you fight drop texts.

Yeah, I have to quit mission and farm some ammo because I ran out. And I have to get the Lifeseal Onmyo too. And spirit stones build amrita gauge and therefore living weapon? Another thing learned.

edit: also, that spear does a bazzilion damage.

Merciless Barrage is my favourite skill in the game. Not only does it do grapple damage but it also knocks the enemy down for you to press triangle again for a final blow too. A lot of damage.

2) I'd say dismantle them and use the mats for forging new stuff, it's the best way later on to get nice gear. And anyway, you get far more money for selling the mats you get from dismantling a weapon than for the weapon itself

Let's say I don't like Dark Souls but I like Bloodborne and Ninja Gaiden Black. What are my chances of enjoying this?

I'd say you probably will enjoy it a lot. Nioh is much more closer to the faster approach of Bloodborne and NG

I don't think I've ever been so torn on a game as I have this one. I've just reached the 4th mission and even though the level enemies are perfectly manageable and a blast to work through, the bosses are a metric fuck-tonne of the most mealy-mouthed, froth-inducing bullshit I have ever come across in a game.

I have worked through Souls, Salt & Sanctuary, Lords of the Fallen and Bloodborne and never I have been more sorely tempted to launch my controller through the screen than in this game.

I'm sorry Team Ninja, I just don't think I can rage my way through twenty or thirty more of the your rage-fuel bosses. From someone who has really tried to like your game, I'm sorry, the save file is getting deleted and I'm gonna trade you in against something else. I just cannot spend my evenings getting that wound up...

So what do people think about using guns and bows?

Cheapass tactic to circumvent level design.

Or anything goes.

It's so satisfying having ranged weapons that can do a decent amount of damage for once, headshots are savage on the weaker enemies. If this was a 'Souls' game the Yoki would take 30 poison arrows to take down, fuck that.

Before you delete your save, unlock Sloth in the Onmyo skill tree.

You're welcome.

Goodness gracious me.

It's like Ninja Gaiden combat and Bloodborne leveling system with better options and a Diablo loot system.

NG+ is honestly 100% Diablo 3, haha

Loot is great in this game.

But yeah, if you like NGB, go A Agility and play it as you do.

Awesome, thanks for the help!

I know I've just started but it's funny how many great katanas I've come across with so few kusarigamas and dual blades. Any time I see a revenant with one of those purple, I froth at the mouth.

I feel where you're coming from and your rage with the bosses. Been there for sure and still get stuck on occasion. But the combat/game is too damn satisfying to play so I decided to push on and eventually conquered. It is an incredibly feeling when you overcome some damn boss you've been stuck on for 30+ mins.

Just picked up the game and I'm about to learn its controls and get comfortable with it.

Is there going to be a "penalty" to me picking Type E controls for the game (putting the attacks on R1 and R2 like Bloodborne/DS)? I understand there's a lot of synergy going on here and while this control type feels comfortable now, am I gonna run into problems or bending my hands around more when I get to more advanced techniques or more challenging areas?

I'm just wondering if there will be a pay off of sorts if I take the frustration and time to learn the game's default controls.

I don't see why you would.

That player is doing 5 times the damage a typical player would be doing at this stage in the game. It's not a very useful strategy for anyone that doesn't want to cheese the boss and trivialise its difficulty.

Appreciate the tip - I noticed a lot of chatter about it the thread, but unlocking Sloth I in the skill tree takes 3 Skill Points - I have none. It also requires 'CLEARED MISSION "????"' and I have no idea what that requirement is.

Frankly, if Team Ninja wanted to add an easy mode they should have put it in the options menu like every other game.

Is that the
centipede boss?

Knowing to block is pretty key.

It took a while for different axes to even be able to be forged too. Was jealous seeing a page full of katanas I could forge compared to the two axes that were available for the first stretch of the game.

I was going to mention the same thing.

But as a person who hadn't used the spear, the spear does wreck this boss. I had to switch to it after having nothing but trouble with my kusarigama.

Does the "Increase Damage of Kayaku-Dama and Horoku-Dama" ninjitsu passives increase the damage of the Iga-Style ones, that you actually get from Ninjitsu, or is it just the non-Ninjitsu items?

If you pick a different control scheme you will be extremely limiting yourself. The skill ceiling for the game is extremely high in terms of what your hands needs to do.
