Horizon Zero Dawn Spoiler-free Impressions (for real this time)

But that's just their opinion. Which is less relevant than my opinion. I agree with that guy. Witcher 3 became hella annoying for dragging a bare bones plot out endlessly.

That's the beauty of video games. No game out there that is designed for everyone.

The Witcher 3 was advertised as a very long game (I think they said 100+). And you, who claimed to hate long games, bought it anyway because?

I think one should be able to differentiate between game length and main story length.

I put 120hrs into TW3. But still found the main story too long and needlessly padded. There was just too much boring stuff I had to do before I could jump into the amazing side stuff. If the game was shorter SP wise, I still would've put 90-100 hours into it, which is pretty damn amazing.

Witcher 3 took me 101 hours for the regular game, then add 50 for both dlcs. When I can immerse myself like that in a game is great.

On topic, these impressions just sound like the same old same old. Worried really.

"You collect stuff and craft just like Tomb Raider and Far Cry but it's really good this time"

And things like that

I don't understand.

Is the 16GB install data downloaded from the internet upon disc install or is it additional background installation from the disc?

honest to god ill take tomb raider's or far cry's crafting over witcher's any day of the week.
damn thing felt less rewarding and more like an exercise.

crafting should either be be simplified or atleast more exclusive if it wants me to go collect random litter . monster hunter has you slog just like that but at least every single thing you craft is unique to its core.

souls does it way better than either games

Director confirmed there's no such patch/separate-download.

PS4 games can be played before the full game is downloaded. You can jump into Horizon after 16GB has been downloaded (if you buy it from PS Store).

so you just put in the disc and play after the normal 30 secs. wait..?

It's 16 GB of the same data already on the disc, except slightly altered to fix Brom the Vacuous Man-thing.

Despite all that, I still think that those 'boring' stuff are fun. I didn't finished the game three times for nothing. I loved every second of it. But that's just my opinion.

Missed the "Story is great, making us really feel for characters" parts, and the "Combat is excellent and very tactical" parts?

16gb of game data seems rather small, isn't? Especially for an open world game.

Uh, I understand that all ps4 games have an initial install amount that lets you play the start of the game while the rest INSTALLS as you play.

Smart game design puts you in an initial area where you learn the ropes and start the story....

I would expect the 16 gb is the starting location....(I dont know, but its what allot of ps4 games tend to do)

There are not going to spoil the story in this thread .
But people have already said it has great gfx , music the gameplay and combat is good.
Then they gave eg from other games of what each those things like .
If you are expecting something totally new this is not the game for that .

Its proceduraly Generated ..
Total is 45 Gb

That explains it. I thought 16 is the total data. Even Nioh has 36 afair.

So, if I were to preload the game, how much will I have to download?

16gb to quick start and 45gb in total? Is that correct?

I would like to hear more about the AI of the dinos. Like are they aware of you if you dont attack, do they attack you (hunt you). Do they follow you? How long? Till you or the dino dies? Can you outrun them? Or just high ground is safe?

More info on the fights would be great.

Also i read that hard difficulty means
less plants or things to collect
but is there a change in the AI too? Lower health also?

Horizon still can't just be a great game eh? We're gonna need a bingo card soon.

- It's GG, they don't make good games
- it's soul-less, just looks pretty
- Brom, voice acting is terrible
- looks like it plays like Far cry
- Tallnecks unlock map? It's just an Ubisoft tower game
- Doing nothing new
- Games is too short
- Zelda gonna be better, the freedom, I can climb er'thing!!

Every singe time something gets addressed some new concern is brought up. If the game comes out and gets 90+ meta, the new line will be "gaming industry still manufacturing hype"...

I like the sound of the combat for sure....I'll just disregard the story stuff. I highly, highly doubt GG has put a good narrative together in this game lol. I'll certainly give them a chance though!

I don't really put any value into early impressions.

But yeah the combat looks great.

That's fair. I don't really feel like I'm shitting on the game here. I'm buying it day 1. I don't really need to hear anything else, just commenting on the early impressions.

My friend is playing it, and he said that story is surprisingly great and that it has depth that he didn't expect, that moment to moment gameplay and action is fluid and really well done, but that facial animation of NPCs is questionable. He's very satisfied.

I'm keeping myself far from spoilers.

I was in the same boat as you but I watched the leaked opening vids and those were pretty great with regards to narrative and writing.

What stands out is that despite the main draw of the game being this unique situation with robo dinos and a post-post apocalyptic world, the opening still largely focuses on the characters. Which honestly, I kind of wasn't expecting because a lot of games with unique concepts prioritize the world building/background lore and the characters are a bit of an afterthought.

Who knows if GG can maintain that quality the entire time but it was really good.

Seems to be a theme.

And things like that
You take cover just like in Kill Switch but it's really good this time (Gears of War)
You have a simple directional combat system like Rise to Honor, but it's really fun (Arkham)

Execution matters

To say a game has a similar system to other games therefore it has to be poorly done like those games is riduclous.

Even more ridiculous when "you collect stuff and craft" also applies to Witcher, Pillars, and countless other games

Worried about positive impressions?

Each to their own mate.

That is only part of the game though and most people consider Tomb Raider and Far Cry to be good games and what about the great combat and story ? (from what we have heard so far) There are also all the positive previews, the reviews will be out early and they haven't been shy about showing off the game, they are really confident that it will be great.

If you are still really worried at this point then maybe you should take a break from open world games, if you feel like it will be "same old" and pick it up later.

But so far, all things are pointing to it being the next big classic on PlayStation.

Meh, it's the nature of exclusive games. Lots of warriors always gonna be around to try and shit on the game. It looks like it's going to be a great game.
