Why are people so against another healer? There are just as many (or as few) healers as tanks right now. A fourth healer could allow them to rework SCH (or improve WHM / AST) to improve the balance between healers (which is at 40+% SCH right now.)

Any word why they're only adding two classes? HW gave us a class of each role...

They want to play new things + they don't want to heal

there are only 2 int classes and 2 str dps classes right now, rdm and sam are going to be dps no other way about it

Suffering From Success
Addition of another tank and another healer can tip the balance into undesirable just as well as it can restore it. There's 4 DPS slots and considerably more wiggling room despite obvious possible optimizations, but there's only 2 tanks and 2 healers. Where there were only 1 for each spot, it was fine, but an addition of a third immediately exposed that a weaker one will always be out.

If you add a tank as fluid and capable as a WAR, but not WAR, the meta will be WAR and that new one, and PLD with DRK will be awkwardly retired to the bench. It's a bit less like that with healers because shields cancel each other so another shield healer might have a hard time alongside a SCH but if they're decently compatible and are just as strong as SCH is now you'll just want SCH and that healer (provided balance is nerfed back, holy goddamn what a mistake).

The idea that more tanks and healers shouldn't be added because of "balance" always struck me as odd since balance will be shifted by the simple fact that this is an expansion with a ton of changes and additions.

And the fact that jobs just need to be viable to complete content. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that Yoship doesn't base whether to add a job based on how it will fit into top tier raiding FC speedrun comps at patch release. Some jobs will always be excluded simply because there are 8 slots and more than 8 individual jobs.

My guess is he's looking at the entire playerbase when making that decision. Obviously things can be tweaked but I've seen the assertion in other threads that they won't add a tank or healer purely because it might not fit into an optimal speedrun comp and it just makes me laugh to read things like that.

If you've remembered the kind of things I've whined about in this thread and previous ones you'll know what I want the next job to be.

Any tips for someone just starting out as a Dark Knight? Im doing PotD right now solo and have been learning the skills pretty well so far, but I still havent been able to do the first DRK quest in Ishgard.
What did most people do when DRK was first released to help learn the class rotations?

On the topic of Samurais. Id prefer them being a fast paced DPS class but him being a Tank would work well also. Cant wait to see what happens during the event, but something tells me I shouldnt get my hopes up. Atleast Red Mage looks sick, first time im considering playing a mage.

Seriously lol'ing @ anyone thinking there won't be a tank AND a healer in the expansion. Ya'll are nuts. Tank mains and healer mains want new jobs to level same as any DPS main, and they aren't going to throw a vague concept of "balance" any more out of whack than any other particular job regardless of role.

Oh and for funsies, ask WoW players what happened to Dungeon Finder queues in Legion when Blizzard didn't release a new healer spec/class alongside their new tank/dps class (hint: they are still regretting it).

Also for funsies, see how fast you get a group in a leveling dungeon as a healer right now, and how long the DPS queue is, without taking into account all the RDM that will be queuing in Stormblood.

Again, ya'll are nuts.

I joined a random a10s party in the PF. omg

I went in on DRK and the other tank was PLD. I pull the boss and notice that he's in shield oath and ask him to switch. Apparently he didn't wanna because it was too hard. I mean his dps sucked and I didn't need to do any more than two power slash combos before dropping grit completely, but still. So then I was like do you wanna pull the boss instead? And he didn't wanna do that either. In the one attempt he did, for some reason he lost hate to the healer before the first tank prey

AND THEN when I take over and start pulling again, he starts gives me sass about using living dead on the first tank prey. Because reasons. I used conval and we had a WHM who wasn't doing dps too, so it's like who even cares

He was yelling at people in discord for messing up too. Literally the worst tank I've ever seen

Is the stats thing even relevant? They can just solve it by moving to class exclusive gear entirely.

It kind of already is. Only accessories are shared?

STR dps dont share left side

they should fix this with the umbrella turn of "hitting stuff"

the first round of tome gear after an expansion is class exclusive!

I'm really curious to hear how much bigger the inventory and the armory chest will actually be. Hoping for a huge improvement, but I can't help to wonder if additional paid Retainers (I still think it's a crazy idea in a post-WoW MMO) are one of the reasons why we don't have more inventory space. In this one case I don't really buy the server capacity/ps3 limitations excuses.

They have been nickle-and-diming the playerbase since day 1. I mean how many other MMOs have both a monthly sub and a cash shop? I can think of WoW and that's it. What surprises me is that you can't buy an unlimited number of extra retainers. Someone out there would spend an extra $50 a month for 50 retainers.

Have they confirmed that both the inventory and armory are getting upgrades? And they should give us 3 retainers by default already.

Or do a big upgrade on the glamour system so that stuff doesn't take up inventory space. That's like 90% of my retainer right there.

They really need to lift WoW's transmog system wholesale.

The way WoW does it is, if you get the item, you unlock the appearance forever then you visit a transmog NPC to select from your collection of appearances.

Unfortuntely, everything in WoW is uggs, whereas everything in FFXIV is gorgeous but your storage space is LUL.

Most relevant sub based MMOs these days have cash shops. Just the way it is.

FFXIV is pretty miserly though with its QoL features.

They have a real easy way they could upgrade the glamour system too. They have an Armoire that doesn't get much use. Upgrade that so you can put everything in there, and change the Cast Glamour interface to draw from that.

Keep the Dye system the same and there you go.

Hmm, I've gotten a pre-order early access code for having pre-ordered Stormblood, which will give me the Wind-up Red Mage Minion and Ala Mhigan Earrings but it says my code is invalid. Is it because we're not supposed to redeem our items yet?

Armoury Chest is getting an upgrade.

It's disheartening but reading Yoshida's previous comments I don't think they want to commit to a wardrobe system just yet, so I'm not expecting anything although the game needs it badly.

The next best thing would be a separate inventory for all things crafting/fishing and I'd take it.

On the other hand, this means you believe there will be three new classes when we aren't sure that'll be the case. If there are three classes, it's highly likely that they'll add all three roles, you're right.

Is that deleted SE Europe tweet where they mention there being only 2 classes the biggest reason for this assumption or was there something else?

Deleted tweet + previous comments on how 3 jobs was hard.

Also, the way they've also trimmed dungeons down from 3 per patch to 2, the smaller amount of beast tribes, the smaller amount of trials, the upkeep of maintaining a larger job pool, etc. They've cut corners before, so I'm setting my expectations accordingly.

One of my friends bought the max number of retainers and still says she has no room. WTF really! I only have 2 and I feel there is no room. Inventory space is annoying as hell in this game.

Two questions:

How does this play on PS4? Is it super clunky or does it work well? I've noticed it can vary pretty drastically between MMOs on consoles.

Is it fun to play a healer in this? I've been looking for a new multiplayer game(preferably MMO) and I prefer to play a support role unless it is mind-numbingly boring.

The game plays really well on PS4. If you don't feel like playing with a controller (which works well) you can still use a mouse and keyboard.

Yes, healers are fun to play. You get to mix up healing with DPSing (FF14's healers have really good offensive capabilities) and utility. It's actually a pretty relaxed playstyle.

If SAM truly is a tank. I hope it's a WAR type tank and not another tank trying to fight for the MT role. Then we can simply throw us PLDs and DRKs away and move into the true DPS meta of WAR/SAM.

Do PLD/DRK teams exist out there lol

I anticipate about a 0% chance that SAM will be as fun in FFXIV as it was in FFXI.

With SAM's release we're announcing the re-release of Regiments battle system from 1.0! Now you can engage in half baked skill-chain ala FFXI style gameplay where you enter a command, wait for the rest of your party to enter a command and roll a dice to see if the chain action will actually trigger for 30s!

SAM in XI was great though, I don't expect anything similar but all the same I want it in.

Don't know if I ever played as SAM in XI. Don't really remember it's role. Was it a 3rd tank (secret 4th tank behind Ninja Blink tank?)

Seeing "WAR/SAM" typed out, just makes me miss the XI days of subjobs.

I just followed this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/4mwt6s/33_anima_stat_allocation_mega_thread/

I maxed out Crit and Det, and had 5 left over crystal sands that I put into Skill Speed. Someone in the thread does mention that if you're raiding to allocate those left overs to Acc, but I'm not raiding, so I just dumped 'em into SS.
Thanks.

Do we know for a fact that umbrite 240 step anima quest is getting nerfed next patch? I'd hate to start and then have it nerfed midway.

Either in 3.55 on the 28th or in 3.56 next month. We might get more info during this weekend's PLL. Unless you're capped on Tomestones of Lore, I would wait.

Nah, I'm not capped. I don't even know what to do with lore anymore since scripture is the important one now.

I think we are only going to get two new jobs at first in Stormblood. The devs have previously said that creating three new jobs at a time was a really intensive task that they didn't want to repeat. At the same time, they said that creating a whole new job is a process that takes a year due to having to design everything from the abilities to the equipment.

What I am expecting is for us to get just two new jobs when Stormblood releases, then a third a year or so down the road, like Ninja. We would still get three jobs, but the devs would have less crunch time involved in making them.

From what I recall, the XI Samurai was a class that the devs intended to have tanking abilities, but the players just used its DPS abilities instead. It had a dedicated tanking stance built around refreshing a move that decreased or negated physical damage, I think. It just couldn't compare to the Paladin or Ninja as a tank, though. So, it was used for its ability to chain weaponskills to rack up damage instead.

I mean, you can still dump some Lore into Umbrite but if you start going at it hardcore you most likely will regret it as it's going to be nerfed by the time you're done or very soon after. I still have my WHM weapon to get through that step but I really don't want to go through the unnerfed Umbrite step for the 4th time, for a weapon that I have no use for.

Crafters!

I have all of my crafters up to 60 (again). Now, I'm working on getting all of the books as well. Now, with Stormblood just four months away...what else should I exactly be working on? Is it worth grabbing mats to have someone help me make Ironworks? Should I try to make Ironworks myself? Not a bad idea but I'm pretty poor atm. =/

Should I continue with scrips for the various tools and just kind of look forward to the new xpac and trying to keep up then?

Any advice as to my next step at this point in the game?

Christ. How long did it take you? I have yet to level any crafting or gathering class. How should I go about it?
Crafting every recipe, Ixal quests, leves are the big ways to do it (leves are easiest if you can just afford to buy the leve items or the mats and have someone else HQ them for you) and then moogle quests from 50-60 are easy, you're getting about a level every other day for very little work

here's a guide for the leves you can do https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z80XeGlbpxBF4b1Yh6VJK9kwvyddCi4AnLjMH7gO1Vk/edit#gid=0

Unlock the books and wait till the next patch before committing to red scrips for gear or buying mats for gear. Khloes sister is supposed to be added soon and has something to do with crafting, might be an easy way to get catch-up gear before expansion.

And if you need any of the mats from the mist vendor, ask one of the officers in the fc to grow some tokens for you in the garden.
