You don't know that. For all we know he was told by the seller that they got it early from Amazon/Target or something. The same thing everyone initially assumed happened with him. He probably saw something on his local craigslist.
Believe it or not when people sell stolen goods they tend to not make it known it's stolen. Unless they are guns with filed off serial numbers or something.

I've kind of given up on VC at launch. I feel like if it was there Nintendo would've advertised it already.
Who knows maybe VC won't even be VC anymore. It could come as a whole new thing.
I think it's CRAZY that we don't know this stuff by now. Nintendo asks for over 300 for that thing and we don't know all the details yet. What is this? A used-car sale? This is now how you should treat your biggest customers.

He said it was shipped earlier by a retailer. Maybe he thought the person he got it from got it shipped early from a retailer and then like a lot of people, didn't want to let it known that he paid extra to get it from someone. Because the internet loves to shit on people who do that.

It can come down to intent on whether it's considered a crime and the cost of the item, etc. But normally the owner is due to recoup the item stolen and the person who unknowingly purchased said item is not due a refund or their money back. At least here in the US.

People forget that we have actually had legit situations in the past where someone got a console or game early from an actual retailer and tried to flip it right away. It's not unprecedented. And the fact that HHR sat in that awful thread replying to several questions makes me willing to believe him. Honestly if someone in my town came up to me with a Nintendo Switch and said they would sell it to me my first thought would have been "Holy shit I can probably get a fortune for this on Ebay".
Now back on topic, I really need to know more about how the licensing/nintendo account stuff is actually going to work. It's going to impact how I buy games.
