What's the worst game in the franchise?

Civilization III, It wasn't bad, but the rest were just brilliant in different ways. Not so much with III.

X-Com Enforcer. Let's make a bad action game out of a turn based strategy franchise.

Ultima 8 - Let's turn one of the longest and move beloved CRPG franchises into a platformer. Though then EA topped that by later turning it into an Evony clone.

Zelda SS. Forgettable dungeons and poor overworld make this my least favorite by far and, to me, the worst in the series.

I can only imagine how this will go.

I will say this. Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass is the worst addition to the franchise. Temple of the Ocean King among various other faults just makes it a pain to play (for me). Skyward Sword takes a close second.
Completely agree.

Dark Souls 3 is my least favourite and unless the second DLC is amazing it'll remain that way.

C&C4 was pretty terrible.

HL: Opposing Force. I preferred Blue Shift. Plus, Barney!

Putting in another vote for Phantom Hourglass. What a massive disappoint that game was.

And another vote to AC III
Actually I never played AC: Black Flag and the later ones because AC III ruined the franchise for me

Man, this game was so bad. There were literally only three good things about it: Haytham, sailing, and the prominent minority characters (Connor and Achilles).

Everything else though? Garbage.

Came to say this. Phantom Hourglass is miles behind the rest of the series. I can't imagine they'll ever make another Zelda game that comes close to being that bad again.

Bioshock Infinite - Threw everything good about Shock out the window in favor of a more linear story-focused experience that was terrible.

Halo 5 - It's difficult choosing this over Halo 4 to some degree considering both excelled in areas the other was terrible in. And in Halo 5's case, it had perhaps the worst campaign in the history of the entire franchise. The first campaign I was so uninterested in with its plot and characters I had to force my way through it. I know Halo 5 was an improvement in terms of multiplayer from Halo 4, but for me, the campaign has always been an important part of Halo. To see it get that bad and end up nothing like what was advertised was just disappointing.

Fallout 4 - It actually managed to be drastically worse than Fallout 3 despite New Vegas showing how a modern Fallout game can still work. I don't think we will ever get a good Fallout game with Bethesda at the wheel.

Assassin's Creed 3 - The game is just a drag with how slow the story starts out and when you finally get to what feels like the actual game, you're still left both a dull protagonist and boring mission design, both largely contrast with the likes of AC2 and AC: Brotherhood. Combining all of that with the fact my spark for the series was already fizzling, it was the last game in this dead horse of series I played.

Dark Souls 2 - By no means a bad game, but compared to its predecessors and successors, it's certainly the weakest and the black sheep of the bunch. DS2 lacked a lot of the great design of the rest of the series as well a less engaging world and lore to discover. Just wasn't up to snuff.

MGS5 - What was the point for this game? Annoying Motherbase stuff and the switch to Open World for no reason. Never finished the game.
Halo 5 - Awful gameplay and still not what Halo should be and yeah that awful awful campaign. Dont see that changing for future games if they dont get a better writer.

The Gameplay trailers and CG trailers were the greatest thing they ever did though lol. The hype train was flying for AC III. Good times.

I feel like the newest Zelda is always the "worst" one

WW was never the worst to me, was excited enough to import it even though it only came out in Japan 3 months early.

TP was only average compared to some of the previous games. It didn't help that a lot of us played it with shitty waggle controls that didn't make the game control any better.

SS was the first time I absolutely just disliked a Zelda game. It's pacing is so terrible compared to every game in the series. Fortunately we got A link between worlds on 3DS which showed the series can still be great.

I swear this question appears once every 2 months, and it will always be Assassin's Creed 3 (and sometimes DMC2).

I also have to agree with MGS5.
Sometimes I have the urge to play Peace Walker again, or even Portable Ops out of morbid curiosity.

But MGSV is the only MGS I didn't bother to finish, for reasons stated in this thread.

Oddly enough even though 1 was my least favorite fallout the worst I would say is 3. 4 would be it but is saved by the survival mode and a lot more to explore and well, far harbor (one of my 2 favorite fallout dlcs). 1 was a good game but I just kept getting stuck in it so I think it was more me than the game.

New Danganronpa V3 (Terrible ending that dropped the ball so hard I like the entire series less)

Kingdom Hearts Re: coded (A story that can be summarized in two sentences, drawn out to 20 hours of inconsistent gameplay)

Final Fantasy II (The most unbalanced game I've ever played)

New Super Mario Bros. (DS) (Was great to get a new 2D Mario at the time of its initial release, but that's the only real "new" thing it did - everything else felt incredibly generic)

Paper Mario Sticker Star (Clunky battle system, no memorable characters, frequently nonsensical progression. I liked Color Splash a lot, which seems to be what they wanted Sticker Star to be but failed to execute on at the time)

Mario & Luigi Dream Team (WAY too many tutorials and way too slow. For a series known for its writing, there's just too much here)

Pokémon X and Y (Felt soulless, and felt like a clunky transition to 3DS that was smoothed out by ORAS)

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice for All
(The last case was great, the other 3 were bad. Berry Big Circus...)

Final Fantasy XV (just a terrible game in general, not even by Final Fantasy standards)
Persona (1) (at least as far as my recent playthrough)
Mass Effect 3 (Just felt shallow compared to 2, and I still like 1 the most)
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (It just did not click with me).

This is a good point. Even if the annoying motion controls were removed, SS would still be a pretty bad game for other reasons.

I'd still probably put it above Spirit Tracks, though.

Animal Crossing City Folk.

A great Nintendo franchise with only a handful of games in it. City Folk was for the Wii, the return to console after the amazing DS game Wild World. I found the game to be unimpressive. It was definitely an AC game, it had all the charm, it just didn't seem big enough for what it could have been. AC New Leaf on the 3ds feels like a proper AC sequel to the original and Wild World. City Folk felt like a stagnant entry.

The original Mega Man Battle Network. The popular opinion is that Battle Network 4 is the worst mainline game in the series, and it is indeed a crappy game, but BN1 is such an archaic mess that I have to wonder how many BN fans have actually compared the two. The only advantage that BN1 has over BN4 is that the localization is only slighty bad as opposed of "viruses busting" bad.

Throw Street Fighter V in here as well.

Street Fighter 1 exists.

True, nothing will ever top the Haytham reveal and climbing to the top of the church in the opening. But AC3 had at least 2 endings (Desmond and Connor's), and both were so depressing and horrible. It was also so bad, it ruined the present day narrative for games that followed. Unity's saving grace is the flawed (but fun with friends) multiplayer and the visuals.

Revelations on the other hand, I think that's the only AC I've stopped playing after only 3 hours. Maybe that's the bad apple?

Gotta defend my boys Halo and BioShock looks like—

Infinite is definitely the weakest game in the series. While BioShock 2 leans on the familiar, it manages to make a return to Rapture feel earned, and actually spends time developing characters you care about rather than just nut jobs and villains. The fact that it makes the gameplay much better (dual wielding plasmids, the removal of Pipe Dream hacking) is icing on the cake. Infinite is good, but its sandbox suffers from a lack of flexibility and less enjoyable, linear encounters. Its DLC also manages to shit on the previous BioShock games and undermine its own original ending.

Worst Halo game? Reach. Its campaign overwrote a cherished tale fans knew by heart to tell a hum-drum story about Spartans no one cared about. The addition of bloom and things like 1-hit KO melee kicks made the campaign an exercise in shooting enemies at range until they died—again, reducing your combat options to the ones the devs had in mind. The same went with the armor abilities, and all this factored into a less fun multiplayer experience alongside it.

I love all the games in both series, but it's easy to pick the weak links for me.
