Horizon Zero Dawn Spoiler-free Impressions (for real this time)

my point was that games tend to get overhyped in general. especially exclusives becuase immature fanboys.

with that said horizon looks amazing and i can't wait to play it. i pre ordered weeks ago.

Why are people so defensive on this forums?

Not defensive, just really don't see the correlation of the two situations

That's not the case with Horizon, so how is this relevant? Some games deliver, some don't , it's not a conspiracy.

I've already said have a good day sir. I seen your post history. it's not worth having a conversation with you. I'll stick to more rational and unbiased posters. thank you very much.

it was off on a tangent and for that i apologize. All i did was say that most games especially exclusives get major hype and someone started going all fanboy on me and i replied to that person when i should have just ignored it.

with that said I don't see horizon being anywhere near those other games. it looks 100% awesome IMO, the impressions and reviews have been pretty positive and I'm very excited to be playing this in a week.

Well surprised might be a big word. I just thought scores would have been the same as mine considering every review agreed with what I though. People thought the same thing yet they came to a different conclusion. To be clear I'm not saying they are wrong or anything. Nothing like that.
Anyway to get back on point of there is anything you want to know about the game feel free to ask.

Maybe the difference is in how anyone consider scores differently, I have this game with a friend of mine that I know if he says a movie or game is an 8, then it's a 9 or 10 for me but I'm pretty sure we feel about the same, is just he measures things in a different way.
I'm pretty sure that an 8 or a 9 is the same as your 8.5 for people that feel the same way as you but have a different way of measuring things, I for one felt really awkward about decimals but I often find myself in a place where a round number is not how a feel so there's that.

Edit: Oh and regarding the game... I don't know, personally I think I already know enough. You all people did a pretty good job covering it.

It's very differently told. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll try to explain vaguely. Naughty Dog games concentrate very hard on telling the story of a couple of characters per game,

In Horizon Aloy is a great character and there's one especially great side npc to go along as well, but some of the best storytelling in the game is told through ruin archeology, logs, etc. The parts that explain how, why the world is like it is are great, and the game's themes really come through at the end, the more you know about the past and how it affects the present.
Do you mean Bioshock way ?

The hunting ground missions
that wants you to grab Dino carcass loot and then the ass hole birds come flying in keeping the loot from you.
Lmfao.

dam ;(

anyways,Took down my first Thunderjaw in Horizon, that was nearly as thrilling as a Bloodborne boss. damn.

Another detail I like is that the bodies of defeated enemies stick around for quite some time and they are actual geometry. Standing on top of the thunderjaw's dead body was pretty cool.

I haven't had time to get back to it. Can't wait to beat my first Thunderjaw. What a beast!

Can any one of you answer whether sidequests are easily discovered or whether you really have to go out of your way to explore to find them?

Green ! on the map.

Alright thanks. I've been following your impressions from the start so speaking of the map, at this point you probably have a good idea of its size. Would you be able to compare its size to any other recent game ie Arkham Knight, GTA 4, or Fallout 4 (I am assuming it is not nearly as big as Witcher)?

Just made it to
Meridian
full

hats off GG

How many big cities are there in the game? And do they have a sense of scale, feel lived in?

Witcher 3's Novigrad is the bar to reach. After the little villages and small towns, the sheer size and density was amazing. CDPR's masterfully designed the city in how outposts lead to outlying suburbs to the city walls to the shops and wider streets within to the denser more crowded tenements and slums deeper inside to the docks and fancy homes by the water

There's no fantasy city quite like it in any other game

ok can anyone shed some light on the cauldrons? are these worth doing? how many of them are there.

thanks guys. i wasnt sold on the game but watching a few video reviews and seeing what the game actually has it has possibly changed my mind.

I guess the size of one of witcher 3s big maps.

Its not like witcher 3, its super impressive but its pretty limited in what you can do and see. I don't think there is any thing else like the one big one in horizon.

I say everything is worth doing, the reward is a must in my opinion. They arent anything that special, there are some neat enemy encounters in them.

I really like the cities/settlements here. They feel really culturally distinct and distant from each other like real cities. They're more straightforward than you describe. You know when you've entered one. there are no suburbs. No enterable buildings. Just townspeople to listen to and NPCs as needed

4 or 5 of these.

you have to do them in the game as they
unlock your ability to override more robots
.. while I guess you technically do not have to do them... lol.

but

being able to override the big fucking dinosaurs
= BLISSSSS. Especially when the robots fight amongst themselves.

Oh, I don't expect them to be that elaborate due to the post-apocalypse and tribal settings, but just hoping they're more Novigrad and less Skyrim "cities"

I fucking love this story.

Don't expect many complex cities. But the ones that are there are nice

Yeah, that's the main problem in open world RPGs. There's no sense of cities in the 'cities'. Well yeah, there are bricks and stuff but they're so tiny to be called cities. And when there are huge cities in some games, we can only explore tiny parts of them. Only The Witcher 3 so far that can give me a real city feeling.

This cant be real.

I refuse to believe it.

It looks better than fucking Uncharted 4 and it is a fucking open world RPG. HOW???

there are bits which I think to my eye looks better than Madagascar - that's the sole open world bit of Uncharted 4.

It's pretty fucking unbelievable what Guerilla has achieved with Horizon.

Oh horizon has a real city! I posted earlier that it made me think of the nonsense FFXIII gave for not having cities.

yeah, this outclasses uncharted by quite a bit. which is unbeleivable. it's so varied and everything looks amazing, npcs, boars, robos, etc. it does not make any sense.

yo this area surrounding
meridian
is crazy. how the fuck did gg pull this off.

I remember when this generation started and a lot of people were claiming that we are not going to get jaw dropping graphical leaps like we use to. Then I saw Libertalia in Uncharted 4 and I realized how wrong they were as I was collecting my jaw of the floor. And now guys are telling me that Horizon might have Uncharted 4 beat...

For those that played it, can you possibly see where USgamer is coming from with their review if their negatives are weighted heavily or they just smoking the good shit?

Even if it doesn't beat Uncharted 4 (I still find that claim hard to believe until I see it with my own eyes), that an open world game can look this good feels like one of this generation's defining leaps
