I loved ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. That said, the very first thing that stood out to me in TLG were the god awful controls. Not a good first impression. The previous games didn't have exemplary controls but TLG goes beyond and into the realm of borderline broken. Horrible acceleration, lag, and terrible contextual detection.
Anyway, that wasn't the deal breaker, but I noted that I'd have to wait and see how the rest of the game catches my attention. So I progress after you
, and along the way... I'm pretty bored. I started to think back how I never felt like this in the previous games. Then I get to where you have to get Trico to pull the chain while you put a metal object under the gate that is controlled by the chain. I had to put a bucket of bait for Trico to become interested in it. I succeeded, and all that was left was to leave the area by way of higher ground. So I got on top of Trico and pointed toward the exit... Trico responds by going back under the gate and into the previous area. Thing is, he's not even playing with the baited chain anymore and he's just sitting there staring at it like he's in a trance. He won't respond to calling or pushing or anything. I cant even unhook the bait from the chain to get him to follow it. I kinda wanna quit the game at this point TBH. Restarting this area is kinda tedious as it involves a few steps.
Anyway, I just feel a bit surprised that this is how I feel at this point about the game. I was not expecting this and just wanted to tell GAF about it. Do things pick up a bit more later or is it going to be more of the same? Should I stick with it and force myself through?
