The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

Question I've been meaning to ask: is there a method to the Korok Puzzles that involve placing a stray block onto the formations of like-blocks?

Because some have seemed really easy (make two formations match), but other are totally nonsensical to me. Lots of times I try to put the block where I think it makes sense and it feels like most of the time it's not correct. I move the block around arbitrarily until the puzzle activates and I rarely understand why that empty space was where that block was supposed to go.

Is there something I should be matching? Or counting? Is there a tell I have made it this far without noticing?

I'm not sure that the hidden shrine I found around there was technically in the Gerudo Highland, but that's one of my favorite findings... Not a hard puzzle, but still really, really satisfying.

I don't really understand the dislike for this part of the map, there's a lot of really strange places there, a couple I still wonder what they're for.

Personally it's a mix of the visibility often being awful due to frequent snowy weather and just not a lot of points of interest. l don't like Hebra much either for the same reasons but Hebra has more things to do and see, more activity and more interesting level design.

You often have to move the stray block to the other formation. But yes, it is a Korok puzzle.

Lacks the power of instantaneous movement
Over 2 weeks in and I just now discovered a certain beach village. God I love this game.

I think you're misunderstanding my question.

I know it's a Korok puzzle. I've done tons of them. But I solve them by first trying to place the block where it seems to make sense relevant to the structure in place and it often is incorrect. So I try places randomly until it grabs the block and the puzzle becomes solved.

But even when looking at the completed puzzle, I can't figure out why THAT particular place was where the block was meant to go.

What I am asking is if there are some kind of tells or details that hint where to put the block. Because simply making structures symmetrical or making all the towers the same height is often not the answer.

Just finished my first dungeon, Va Ruta..........

You guys are my Zelda fam but those of you calling these the worst Zelda dungeons.... ya brain broke homies. I know there are a lot of different dungeon flavors to choose from and BotW's may not be to your particular liking so I'm interesting in hearing the particulars of the critique.

I'll through my hat into the ring. That was one of the cleanest dungeons in Zelda history. Easy. Complexity wise, easily more in depth than "before the word twist" starting Zelda dungeons.

90 hrs
64 shrines done
6 side quests left

Done a lot and am not even remotely close to being bored. I won't pay Ganon a visit until I get all shrines done. Still discovering and learning new things. Still have a few mysteries to uncover.

I love this game so much.

Does the game track this stuff?

Yeah. There should be two near-identical structures, but one is missing one block. You put the metal box where the missing block should be to make two identical figures. Sometimes they're rotated so it's hard to see where it should go.

I've seen a bunch of them and that's always the answer.

I guess I'll have to take a closer look. Because that was always my instinct and obviously that's how many of them are solved, but I swear the correct placement for lots of many of them have seemed random.

Maybe I'm just not interpreting the shapes clearly.

There was one I found on the cliff face in the grasslands east of Gerudo that had four structures. I spent an immensely long time trying to solve it and decided to move on because it wasn't worth the stress.

I'm a bit insecure if the puzzle really is that simple and I somehow just fail to identify basic geometry time after time.

You make them the same. It is always the answer.

Now that I have finished the game I must say it's my least favourite 3D Zelda.

I didn't hate it or anything. But I just got bored and that feeling didn't go away. No real dungeons and story with horrible pacing where characters come and go didn't help either. I was hoping that encounter with Ganon would have redeemed some of the worse aspects of the game but the whole Hyrule Casle and last boss battle were so anticlimatic that it didn't leave a better taste to my mouth like I was hoping for.

I see why people like it and it does many things right. But hopefully next game is more similar to ALBW with real dungeons and exploration with better rewards.

Does the combat ever get better in the game? It's the only part of the game I'm finding really frustrating. There's no good way to dodge attacks or maneuver around opponents so far. It's lead to a lot of cheap deaths and such. Link moves like a damn tank. It feels like a step back from the combat in Twilight Princess and even Wind Waker.

Also! Is there like a poncho I can wear? I really want to ride around on horseback wearing a poncho.

Every attack in the game can be both dodged, but can be also parried. Every attack can be parried including
fire ball attacks.

Wat

You can climb on anything and glide in and approach any of the battles from any angle possible, whether you like mashing or stealth.

I'm completely puzzled how anyone could say that combat in the old games is better.

(like... move like a tank when you can run around using Stamina? lol)

Lock-on, then press the jump button while pressing left/right/back = quick dodge. Perfectly time a dodge to trigger Witch Time Flurry Rush. You can also parry, use your shield, or just straight-up sprint the fuck away.

I'm avoiding getting the last part for as long as I can because I'm like you, once I beat the final boss I don't get the want to return to the game to finish side quests

I like to end on a high note, so I'm gonna do these shrines.

I'm feeling less bitter on that weak ending.

Twilight Princess' combat is more flashy and more fun to do. You gotta admit.... I felt like a cool swordsman in TP.

I used the TP Link amiibo and I got Epona. Wow. Max stats and everything. She looks gorgeous.

I never thought I'd be so happy to feed Epona apples out of my hand. Its a dream come true 😭

I feel flashier when I get the parry timing with a wooden pot lid.

There's almost nothing like this in the old games and shit was practically on rails with how you could approach various situations.

Are you just... not dodging? Because the dodging is identical to other Zelda games but with the added flurry rush mechanic for perfect dodges.

Every attack can also be parried, even energy beams and stuff.

You backflip horizontal attacks and side-step thrust/vertical attacks. Time them perfectly and get a flurry rush.

Took me about 50 hours to realize you can slightly dash forward while crouching.

How on earth did you ever catch a horse without it? Kudos!

That one is fucking trash. Worst part of the game that's actually intentional. Blood moons in general are bad, especially when you're trying to do overworld puzzles and they happen twice in a row.

I was close by, but couldn't make it on time.

Pretty salty about it.

Wow, the game just crashed on me for the first time. 55 hours played according to the profile screen. I was buying the
ancient armour
and a Switch error message appeared on screen.

Turned it off and on again, no progress lost and everything seems fine.

But also more pointless, because the game can't assume you have any of those attacks. I like how all of BotW's moves are given to you from the outset.

But... but... Quick Draw..... and the cool way to sheathe your sword... ;_;

70 hours in and I think I am done with the game for now

One of my favorites of all time. Did not want it to end

Haven't felt this way about a game since Super Mario Galaxy

You can selfie and the amount of execution needed to set something like this up in a fight properly (especially considering the level of aggro a lot of enemies exhibit in the game) is better than some canned animation that anyone with hands can do.

1. stand on the thing, don't pause the game/turn off the console
2. go to bed
3. wake up
4. shrine is there

unlocking mewtwo in melee has taught me well

Yes! Did this Christmas night 2001. Wow, what a nostalgia rush. Don't know if I'd feel comfortable letting the small little Switch run that long though vs the beefy GameCube.

hah, I felt the same way about my GC back in 2001. Did I really want to leave my new Nintendo on so for long?

yes.

I needed Mewtwo.

*checks activity log for the first time*

Holy fuck 110 hours and Im not done yet. Heck between yesterday and today I discovered 2 new stables

Finally finished, though I didn't complete near all the game has to offer. 60ish shrines and 80ish seeds. I don't think I could stand doing anymore, as I had my fill dozens of hours ago, but felt I needed to finish

Overall, it was a very meh experience. Too much empty space, boring filler, easy mode dungeons and shrines with zero challenge(from what I saw), uninteresting rune system, durability that made me just avoid battles, etc. I'm glad y'all are in love with this game, but I never want to play it again

Question about one of the temple powers:

How the heck do I use Revali's Gale. It says on it to charge a jump with X, but whether i tap or hold X, all that happens is Link does his normal little hop.

Hold X until the green light begins to swirl around you - it's deliberately timed so as to be difficult to trigger accidentally.

Oh goodness. Please don't make this into another "real" ____ debacle. Its not a REAL 3D Mario (even though the game is 3D). They aren't REAL dungeons because reasons. Don't like the dungeons? Fine. Can we use some words with greater specificity than "real" when trying to describe things please?
