Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Of course I understand why the realities of business for a corporation like Sony preclude it, but I would love for Guerilla to just never make another Horizon game. I haven't finished it yet—maybe the ending will change my mind—but I hate how common sequelization has become in AAA development and I would love to see them do something new again.

Yeah you can just forget about this thought. They didn't invest six years for one off. I'm hoping for a bigger and better sequel. Exact same way I felt about TLOU.

Oh no, there is so much potential on a sequel. While the game was amazing, there is a lot to improve in some areas there.

Do we have any inkling as to what kind of game SP is making? Is it that western-themed game with trains?

I'd really like to see more sci fi stuff. Like, space opera stuff.

I have a feeling that was for a VR game

Wait, is this actually happening or are you just asking?

Starts today I believe

but its similar to mutants so that tends to go sci-fi, i would think.

Mutants are Close to "Power Fantasy" Genre. Mass Effect is Sci-fi , Halo is Sci-fi(atleast bungie one) , Borderlands is something i called fantasy along with Infamous. that's how i would categorise them.

I honestly do not like science fiction very much. i can only take it in very small amounts. If any of Sony's First party studios tackle scifi, I hope they do it in a very science fantasy way. The cauldrons were my least favorite areas of Horizon by far, but I love when tech is used very sparingly in a majority fantasy setting. Roboanimals you fight with bows and a spear in the middle of a forest/desert/empty plain? Awesome. Robodinos you fight with lazers in metal factories? Lame.

I don't think power fantasy is a genre though :p

Don't they at least cursorily scientifically explain the mutations? That would put it squarely in the science fiction genre; distinguished from the science fiction fantasy genre that something like the original trilogy of Star Wars inhabits, seeing as they don't try to give scientific explanations to things like "the force" and whatnot.

i see. I have always labeled mutants and superheroes as scifi. I would put Borderlands in the sci-fi realm due to the weird weapons.

inFamous is very, very soft sci-fi (and somewhat into the superhero genre - yeah, it's a whole genre, now) - while it doesn't go in depth about what makes the Conduits, it's speculative - it's about the ramifications of a world and society where such beings exist.

Star Wars isn't sci-fi at all, it's space fantasy. It's not speculative and the scientific trappings are of almost no consequence to the setting.

By that I mean fantasy mainly(power fantasy , yeah, what i was thinking :p) and about the whole star wars example.
The first trilogy of star wars is more of a fantasy , but they did try to bring scifi with the prequel(midchlorians) which i don't think was a bright idea.
Likewise you can explain Mutants Through some scifi angle but still it better suited for a fantasy genre, than you don't have to explain for all the powers and have to keep them grounded just for the Science sake. that's my take on it.

I'm sorry, but infamous is 100% sci-fi. It includes time travel, super powers unlocked by advanced devices, future technology for soldiers, etc.

Fantasy it most certainly is not.

Hmm, its not Like Some other Game does this too (final Fantasy series) :p
Its Ok , not getting into any argument, but for me its still a fantasy game.

Old topic but I'm still sooooo happy that Sucker Punch isn't working on Spider-Man. It would have been great and I would have played the crap out of it, but knowing they're working on their own new IP is exciting as hell. And based on the constant speculation in here, everyone agrees!

So... how does Sony start the show off?

2015 ~ The Last Guardian
2016 ~ God of War
2017 ~ ???

I'm not sure Sony slides in a new IP in that spot since new IP's do not hold any weight.

This is what i'd like to see.

*Press mumbling about press conference being late again*
*Without warning the PS logo/sound pops up on the big screens, hype montage ensues*
*Once hype montage is over the lights go out*
*Sucker Punch logo pops up on the screen*
*Trailer for the game*
*Once trailer is over, Shawn Layden ziplines down from the roof wearing a Half Life shirt and doesnt mention it for the entire conference*

Honestly, I have no clue. They have so much that could get that spotlight that I don't even know where to begin.

It has to be a game that people have long been anticipated/expecting. If Sucker Punch's game is a new IP then it's gonna come directly after it.

I honestly have no possible idea what they could announce.....unless they do follow through with a actually Bloodborne 2 or Deep Down is alive.

If they can manage to keep a reveal of a new From Software exclusive a secret until the conference, then that would be a great way to cold open the showcase.

TLoUP2 is certainly a frontrunner assuming ND has it in a state where they're ready to show raw gameplay. I could also see Sucker Punch's new IP kicking things off or RDR2 if Rockstar allows it.
