I feel like these are errors that should have been caught by bioware. Do they not have a proper approvals and review process? Why did they hire someone with no experience into a lead facial animation role? (And from what i saw of their demo reel, they should have been given an entry level position.)

But it's not just facial animation, theres problems across the board. Guns glued to hands not holding them or placed backwards, questionable walk cycles, weird animations like the swiggity swooty meme one, a run cycle where the waist remains entirely stationary as the body moves around the butt itself, gyrating shoulders despite a rigid frozen body, eyebrows that dont move ever, cartoonish exaggerations that lack polish or itteration...(oh thats the faces again...)

Theres engine problems too like characters tposing in cutscenes, models popping in even in foreground, pop in so bad you can get stuck inside models that pop in around you, people reliably animation locking characters in and out of battle...and then theres the writing quality, something jeff and brad over at giant bomb were going after. (Problems with the story, characters, and voice acting.)

Whats more is if you turn the clock back, bioware montreal is the studio that did mass effect 3 omega dlc, which was an underwhelming, bad, flat, unexciting, poorly made, glitchy, unpolished mess full of animation, rigging, and sound errors that lead to people (even brad shoemaker) considering it the worst piece of mass effect content to date. More or less declaring it entirely skippable and not worth the money. They even managed to make Aria T'Loak boring and fill it with the most dull level design in the game. It was almost a 1 star experience, and now we're seeing the exact same problems. The best example of this is found in the climax of the dlc, Aria's speech, which features rotating character model glitches so bad it feels like no one looked the cutscene over before release.

Overall it feels like bw montreal is a lackluster studio that has poor quality control and low standards of work output. It makes the company as a whole look bad, harms the brand, and i imagine will lead to some massive layoffs and reshuffleing or shuttering the studio if reception and performance of this game is as bad as the vibes i'm getting might lead to... :(

Here's the Omega DLC cutscene in question with the biggest most obvious problems: https://youtu.be/4eeaAkPyY0E
(Also if you pay attention to the dialog its a ridiculously mundane, dull speech that I feel would struggle to motivate anyone)

it feels like the problems are more than just animation, and if the game ends up beingas bad as it looks, i'll really find myself wondering how it wasnt canceled before we saw it. (Something that happens to games that dont come together or have quality controls that dont meet the standards of the studio or publisher) i just dont see how this is a triple a release. It's very worrying and it sucks to feel this way about a series i used to absolutely love.

I expected better from you.
So I should have just assumed it's true instead of asking if it's legit info?

BTW, even if the info turns out to be true, my feeling is that the ones to blame isn't the animator. It's the people who hired the inexperienced animator. Probably to save some money or some other shitty reason.

Honestly I think both default male and fem Ryder look pretty bad.

I liked the designs of male and female Shep, but I might have to create a character if I play Andromeda.

And I hate creating characters.

So why is the gaming community going nuts over just 3 or 4 badly animated scenes, when the rest is just fine, not great, but fine?

You didn't realize it wasn't true immediately after you posted a banned link six hours ago? Or even almost three hours after Kotaku ran a story debunking that claim?

Hundreds of people worked on this game, but you're willing to believe a single animator affected the quality?

After the harassment of one of their animators, I don't think this thread is hilarious anymore

Nah, man, the best part is that she never worked at BioWare and no one knows if she actually worked on Andromeda.

Its not just 3 or 4 badly animated scenes, its some badly animated characters (main characters, no less) in general too.

And its hilarious.

Good lord, is that angara (I think tha'ts the name) on the right at :36 real? Looks like someone tried to make Knuckles.

J'ai les traits tirés.

Given the entire lack of QA regarding so many aspects, I wouldn't be surprised if they ran out of time to translate properly for the trivial dialogues.

The localization in french and german amusingly fixes the bad writing.

les traits tirés

http://dictionary.reverso.net/french-english/, les traits tirés,

seems like its an actual french phrase and it may? make sense in the situation its said? Honestly don't know if I am doing this right but wow if this is true.

Not sure if this has been posted yet. It's from a Forbes article on the character creator of the game.

The potential for the use of this gif is high.

Yeah. Like, I've not had enough sleep this week and "j'ai les traits tirés". I guess somebody who's not fluent could literally translate it as "my face is tired" but it's wonky. It seems to be the best explanation though. Well, the only one that makes a bit of "sense" anyway.

Didn't know the writer for Halo 4 was on this...welp, my anticipation for wanting to play this has fallen even lower.
Technically its their second singleplayer project. They did the mass effect 3 omega dlc before this. I think they had some hand in some me3 content under supervision from edmonton, but that omega was their first solo run and it was widely regarded as a tetrible piece of dlc.

Also i based some points of my other post on outdated information and saw the kotaku post. A lead animator could have a big impact on the process and quality, but falling back from those rumors...montreal just seems to have a poor team in general. I reallt want to know how you end up with sophomore level animations like this. Alot of what i said i feel still stands and it just feels like this might be the biggest bummer of the year. :(

I really don't get this. Like I said to another. Regardless of your thoughts on the Halo 4 story, the actual writing was actually pretty solid all around. The dialogue scenes between Chief and Cortana in particular were great.

I mean hell the guy went onto write the expansion, Rise of Iron and while not going to win awards, was pretty solid all around and a step up in comparison to the other small expansions and the base game.

Neither Halo 4 or Rise of Iron had dialogue anywhere near as bad as: "Sorry my face is really tired." Not even close.

Something happened with the script. Considering the guy left Bioware in 2015, it meant there was nearly 2 years of stuff to happen.

Honestly this thread's association with gamer bigots and their abhorrent bullshit has soured me completely. What started out as innocent fun about comedic animations has been co-opted by and associated wirh everything I hate about gamer culture.

Mhmm. I said it earlier, but now that the only good part of the game has lost some of its fun factor, I think everyone's just about over Mass Effect: Andromeda. Don't think people will really be talking about it in a week or so when Persona is around the corner.

There's still the Review Thread to look forward to

calm down man.

My life does not revolve around checking the status of this thread. How am I suppose to know Kotaku story or any of that? I lierally saw that link on my FB feed and came here to see the deets on the story figuring you guys would have prpbably discussed it.

My indredulity to the story is if an AAA game hired an animator with no previous game dev experience as lead animator. That's why I literally asked this can't be real can it.

Why are they using screenfighting in a video game? There is no reason to play it safe because nothing can be hurt. Just let his head "collide" with hers.
I think he's smashing her head against his shoulder pad. It's weird, but it's the only way their positioning makes sense.
