Gamers with limited time: how are you managing the year 2017?

BennyBlanco

I work 50~ hours a week. Have a gf. Hobbies outside of gaming. Go to the gym 5 times a week. TV shows to watch. Books to read. Etc. Basically I don't have as much time as I'd like to devote to playing games.

It's never really been a problem for me in the past because the games I really wanted to play were generally few and far between. Now for whatever reason, game devs collectively decided to open the floodgates and release every good game ever in the span of the first 3 months of 2017.

First I bought DQVIII - great game, played about halfway through, put it down for...
Yakuza 0 - great game, played about halfway through, put it down for....
NiOh - great game, played about halfway through, put it down for...
RE7 - great game, played about halfway through, put it down for...
Zelda - great great game, still playing, but also bought....
Nier - seemingly great game, played through the intro and went back to Zelda to wait for patches.

This year is an embarrassment of riches and I have no idea how to manage it, With mainstays like Overwatch, Diablo 3, Rocket League, etc also vying for my time. I really wanna finish that list of games before fall rolls around and heavy hitters start dropping rdr2 and Mario but I doubt it's gonna happen. Anyone just getting overwhelmed with quality games?

Skipped Nier, Nioh and GR2 so far. Really want to play these 3 games but don't know when I'll be able to do so.

Terribly. Have only beaten 8 games so far, and a lot of titles I'm skipping just to not get burnt out and to save money.

I just spend money on a bunch of games that I'll never play through.

Been doing OK so far, although I have completely sworn off TV and movies for now. Finished RE7, Diablo 3, Horizon and Dishonored 2 so far in 2017, playing Zelda now with FF15, RotTR, Deus Ex and Mass Effect Andromeda up next.

Pretty well. Not as much time as usual, but it's been alright.

At least I have enough games for the summer.

I'm just hoping P5 will have enough time.

I bought Resident Evil 7 with the Season Pass, and For Honor with the Season Pass. Not buying another game until May when I plan to get a Switch with Splatoon 2.

Just bouncing between For Honor, Infinite Warfare, Overwatch, and Final Fantasy XV has been good enough for me.

Games drop in price so damn fast these days there's no point in me buying games now when I know I'm not going to touch them.

I just buy and play fewer games. I'm having fun devoting all of my gaming time to Zelda right now. And it's not as though the ones I don't get to right away will disappear. *shrug*

As someone who has more games than time, I would posit that in many cases just playing the first half or whatever of a game is actually getting you the most value for your time, since even good games tend to fall apart by the end, certainly gameplay-wise a lot of the freshness is lost and often the gameplay just gets worse.

I boot up my 2DS when ready for bed-> 5 minutes later I'm asleep. That's gaming for me at 29.

If I get sick, I pour like 14 hours straight into something, most recently Stardew Valley and Legend of Grimrock 2. So my soul still needs gaming, but my soul is deprived. (Cries)

Nah, skipped everything so far (ok, bought Zelda but that was a dumb idea) and finishing up some 2016 stuff at my own pace.

When I'm done with that everything is cheap and patched up.

No need to waste money now on shit I'm not gonna touch for months.

By skipping most releases, as much as it pains me. Nier was my first buy this year. I've only managed to beat a couple of games since the start of year.

i typically stay 6-18 months behind the release schedule, but time management just comes down to curbing your fomo. have some self control. the game will always be there for you (unless it gets delisted, but thats tangential)

I've skipped a lot. There's like 6 personal MUST PLAYs released so far and I've only purchased 2: Horizon and Zelda

I've played Horizon for 5 hours on launch day
I've put in 50 hours on Zelda...I'm like 1/4 of the way through.

It's secretly a blessing though, because Black Friday this year is gonna be LIT

By skipping nearly everything until Persona 5 hits.

When I have time off later this year i'll be catching up on gems like Nier, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Yakuza 0 and Ni-Oh.

I don't really have "limited" time even though I'm married with 2 kids and work full time, I play pretty much whenever and however long I want to. But this year I definitely have a backlog for the first time ever. Too many great games for super cheap right off the bat. Nier, Horizon, and Yakuza were 40 bucks like 2 weeks ago at Target and I bought FFXV and The Last Guardian for 30 apiece a month ago and they're still in the shrink wrap.

I feel excommunicated from the gaming community that pays $60 for new titles and adopts systems at launch. I still down't own an XB1/PS4. As said before, there's too many quality releases out there, I'm 3 years behind at least on new games. I haven't even sunk my teeth into a highly anticipated Fallout 4 yet. I'm still trying to finish Skyward Sword.

So I get it, I am an adult now and don't have unlimited time. So I just don't care about new great games' release dates when there's epic releases that are againg that I haven't touched yet. I'll get to it when I get to it, so it's just nice to know that Nintendo finished Breath of the Wild and it's great.

Disconnecting like this gives me the freedom to be a wannabe developer/music producer/whatever your hobbies are, to focus on my truly worth-while endeavors in life, as opposed to be a slave to the industries timing. Which if I did adhere to it, I would come home->Facebook->play blockbuster of the week/month->go to bed, and never create or pursue anything else. As a kid it's OK, but as an adult, you have to someday stop trying to play every epic game out there. It's kinda sad since I love all games more than anything but better than putting in all my freetime just to make sure I play the best titles the same time everyone else does.

Edit: Also, I can't smoke weed right now, so waiting until then. Then I plan on finding a cave with electricity and no spiders, and I won't come out until I'm outta weed or I've played every game I want to.

Unlike you I have no TV shows to watch. Boom, gaming time.

Still, I have a daughter, which is the most significant time-user. Whatever, I enjoy what gaming time I get.

I stopped buying games.

Zelda is all I'm playing now. When that's done, I'll get back to Nioh. When that's done, I'll get back to Horizon. When I'm done with those 3, Persona 5 will almost certainly be out.

Mass Effect, Nier, Yakuza, RE7 and anything else that recently released or is coming out soon... will have to wait.

I'm not to put it simply.

.

Botw eating my free time.

Something I do is I don't buy games unless I want to Play them immediately. I dont buy systems until later.

That way I have no pressure to play games. I just play when I want and when I can.

Badly (in a good way). Lots of stuff on DVR and Netflix unseen, GR2 on hold, Nier on hold, and P5 already looming HZD has all my time right now.
Won't even consider Andromeda for now.

Majorly took a step back in spending overall. Not buying games at full price. Not going to be able to get around to it until it has a couple drops or sales anyways.

I spend more time not gaming now and am okay with it. I'd rather read or listen to an audiobook / podcast than play a mobile game and that leaves more time and interest for full games. I liken it to be like spoiling meals with junk food.

Played a good deal of Nioh and a ton of Zelda.
Insta-backlogged RE7, Yakuza 0, and Horizon

Could be worse!

One at a time. I'll play Zelda till its beat. By then, Cosmic Star Hero will be out, when that's done, I may circle back around to Horizon then P5.

EDIT: Basically I don't buy new games until Im done with the last one, unless there is a damn good sale. Like 50% or more.

By not buying shit and having some will power.

Persona 5 will be the first 2017 title I'll buy.

Maybe Mass Effect depending on reviews and post launch impressions.

I mean Movies and TV shows are not any different then Games so why you seems to higher them in priority list? (guessing solo watching not theater movies). I could understand reading and GYM,GF being higher priority for you but you have to manage time between Movies&TV if you cant find time.

used to buy a ton of games but I have switched to buying 4-5 games a year and play them throughout. Granted I mostly fall back on the usual endless multiplayer grind games

ZAMtendo

Obliterating everything that's not your friend
Abzu, Re7, Zelda, Fast RMX, Snipperclips, 1-2 Switch.

These days I care less about how long it takes me to finish a game. Especially with Zelda I'm enjoying taking my time.

Once Zelda is done I'll continue Kingdom Hearts II and Assassins Creed Syndicate. And then I have Horizon to play.

I've been playing Nioh since it first came out and have yet to beat it. It's been the only game I have played since release so far. With what time I do get, I play thru a mission or two and then have to stop. Currently I'm on the 4th island so I think I'm more then half way thru the game.

I have Resident evil 7 with PSVR to try but haven't even bother to start that yet.

I really want to get Nier Automata but won't happen anytime soon :(

I'm just hoping that there will be a lull during the summer for me to catch up on Yakuza and Horizon. Otherwise I'm doing pretty good, though I did just buy Nier despite not being finished with Zelda. After 50 hours of Zelda I did need a bit of a break though.

Still haven't worked through my backlog yet, and I'm not one to buy new games until I'm done. I'm still working on 2016 releases, and still have to buy Doom and FFXV. Then from this year I need to buy RE7, Nier: A, and Zelda. Plus, a Switch.

I can get in a few hours a week of gaming, if I'm lucky.

Only have time for Zelda right now

Everything else is on hold

Gotta have your priorities

Yup, this pretty much sums it up for me. Except for when I occasionally will host game nights, I really only focus on one game at a time. It was Elite Dangerous for the longest. Now it's Zelda, in a few weeks it will be Persona 5 and after that will be Mass Effect.

I try and limit what I buy as I know it's going to sit there and I have enough of a backlog.

Not buying anything and waiting for sales and when I'll have time later in the year.

Edit: I should say that I'm going through my backlog currently, as well as playing a ton of Rocket League

I have Horizon, Gravity Rush 2 DLC, Shovel Knight DLC and Overwatch. I got Horizon two days before it came out and I'm still only a few hours in. I've been playing Overwatch still. Orisa gets released this week so....I haven't been managing my time well but I will get to them. I finally got around to playing Hearts of Stone and most of Blood and Wine in December. Still have to finish BaW, but I will.

I just finished Nioh, I have Horizon in his wrap, but I'll keep it sealed because I won't have finished it when Persona is out. And I don't want to delay this one more than it already has.

I'm not managing great. So far this year I have completed

Final fantasy 15
Resident Evil 7
Watchdogs 2
a handful of smaller titles like Colour Guardians.

My next game to play will prob be Dishonored 2 which I brought for £24.99.

Persona 5 will be my next buy but my want list is

The last guardian
Yakuza Zero
Nioh
Nier Automata
Horizon
Full Throttle Remastered
Mass Effect

In the past I would have just purchased all these games day one and just waited to play them but I'm approaching 40, married with 3 kids and a full time job and im just waiting. Will prob save a ton of money as prices are already falling. I just find it impossible to fit all these games in and im at the point of wanting a drought for a month or two to catch up
