Ok guys, I'm not sure if this has come up in any of the previous pages but uh, just what is up with the Great Fairy Rank 4 shenanigans? I busted out laughing in the middle of the night when it happened the first time, just looking around my room at nobody saying "what just happened??"

I didn't even notice the, uh, escalation, being related to Rank of upgrade until the 4th.

Regarding the timeline inconsistencies, I just had an idea that this can take place after TP with no problems since Ganondorf kills the sage of water in that one cutscene: https://youtu.be/BVYggDnaJgY

So Ruto can awaken later and take his place.

Anyway, this is just a random thought. I don't take any of this timeline discussion too seriously.

Fully upgraded my Champion's shirt. It's so strong! Any recommendations on what color to dye the Hylian Hood? I'm not crazy about how it looks against the bright blue of the shirt.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.

The Zora tablets mention she fought Ganon alongside Link and Zelda though.

Hylian hood looks best at its default black, or white, IMO.

I love how much they tease poor Link. Haha

I chose White.

Finally finished the main quest, without spoilers...
Just around 90 hours.

Still missed a ton of stuff with some spoilers I just read.

Also, I had the game glitch on me harsh right at the end.
I bypassed the last dungeon completely by climbing the castle.
Right when I got to the top, I fell through the world. (Was stuck in the walls)
Luckily it saved 1 min prior to that.
(GF was watching and was asking what was happening)

Also, Ganon's last form was pretty anticlimactic.
Way too easy.
Preferred the final battle of TP more, as this one felt it was trying to do something similar, with the horse battle.

Still, great game.
Will still play around to see what I missed.

wait wa8t wait wait wait hold the fuck up. Climbing the castle......isn't what you're supposed to do? There's an actual dungeon you an go through?

Just beat it after 80h of gameplay, about an 100 shrines and korok seed, 62 sidequests done.
Whew, what a game, definitely my favourite Zelda game for now (been playing all the Zelda games since ALTTP).

A little let down by the final boss battle, it could've been a little more challenging. I liked the open field battle with boar Ganon though.
I really enjoyed the story and how you were basically setting right what went wrong.
I liked Zelda once I unlocked every memory. Design wise, I still prefer SS Zelda (my favourite), but on a story level I like them both equally.
The game has an unequaled feeling of wonder when you discover places, shrines and solve puzzles.
There are way too many korok seeds to get though, it shouldn't count towards percentage completion IMHO :p

Can't wait for the DLC. Also I'm ok with Zelda being like BOTW from now on.

Now I'm raking my brain as to where to place BOTW on the Zelda timeline
reunification timeline theory anyone lol ?

Also this game adds to my theory that the greatest games always have a cross dressing section (see also FFVII, Persona 4)
.

It's way too easy to bypass the entire castle. I went up the waterfalls, climbed up one tower, and I was at Ganon.

I don't think it's even possible to do it all inside, is it? you need to go out and ganon can only be reached from the outside.

I don't think it's meant to be done inside, it's just a choice you have.
play hide and seek with the guardians, fuck up the guardians, or go inside. I think that was very nice but it felt a bit too action heavy.

I tried to go the most straightforward method possible from the entrance. and if you do it that way, you would miss Zelda's room, the dungeon at the bottom (where the hylian shield is) and many other things.

They should have had a coloring system in place when you haven't explored an area yet.

lol I was just saying like 2 pages ago that it's way too easily to accidentally skip straight to Ganon without even meaning to and I've seen several posts like this. It's sad because Hyrule Castle interior is so awesome.

Heh heh yes! Took like around two stamina wheels. Reminds me of Ganondorf's steed. It is too bad that there is no special dialogue or such when you register the horse.:p

I swam up the waterfalls then climbed the rest of the castle. I assumed you were supposed to do that.

I mean, outside of the shrines, dungeons (both of which take away your power-ups and climbing ability afaik), and certain pre-divine beast events (like sneaking into gerudo city as a woman) there is no way you're "supposed" to do anything in this game.
When I got to the castle I just went to the left, used Revali's Gale to super jump to a tower, climbed it, super jumped again, and glided to Ganon's cocoon hideout.
easy peasy lemon squeezy.
I personally feel like it was incredibly lame that they gave us so many ways to comfortably bypass challenges/obstacles within the final level, the penultimate obstacle that stands between the courageous hero and the abominable big bad, but hey that's how they wanted it.

Got that horse, had no idea it was Ganondorf's steed.

Didn't know what to name it,
my GF suggested Jubjub, so it's named Jubjub...

Found a better horse in the same area though.

In some ways, I think it's impressive how the game cultivates a pretty good sense of fear of guardians and the castle at the beginning - when I finally got there, I definitely was taking it slow just because of the mystery and intimidation of the whole thing.

If someone is the type to explore as much as they can throughout the game, I'm not sure why they'd suddenly stop at Hyrule Castle. The place is enormous. You also miss a few bits of storytelling (Zelda's notes, Zelda's diary, the King's diary).

Y'know, I'm not too hung up on the enemy variety complaints, but it's pretty weird there's no Like Likes in this game. The game where shield stealing would make the most sense it has in awhile.

The Castle is so huge and so much fun to explore. Made the game for me.

Also, I just beat it, 70+ hours, all memories, all Divine Beasts, full ending. SO great.

One question, when I go back, should I load my * complete save or the one I made right before the end? I want to knock out the remaining shrines & several side quests I left lingering.

I just got the feel after Rudania that I needed to go whoop Ganon hard. Did it, felt great, loved the boss fights, loved the ending.

I went back to the game today to do some of the things I hadn't. One of which being explore Korok Forest.

I have to admit, I like these twigs. They get it. They have a store and an inn, too, and the inn is free, as Mr. Hero doesn't need to pay to sleep. And buying stuff from their store gets greeted with "Yay, I helped save Hyrule!" How can you not like that?

It then slowly dawned on me that the Koroks, even more than Impa, are probably the people who actually know what's going on. And with 900 of them all over Hyrule, each giving Link a small gift when he finds one... one has to wonder if they're not Hyrule's biggest spy network. They knew Link was awake, they knew he was coming back, and they somehow managed to have one of the most useful magic enhancements in the game ready to go to aid him. All, of course, hidden behind being adorable.

Oh, and Zelda entrusted them with the Master Sword. Can't forget that. They might be cutesy comedy relief... but the Breath of the Wild Koroks are a force to be reckoned with. More than any other people in the entire game, they were ready to put their weight behind destroying Ganon.

Yep, agreed, especially the little trooper camped out at the tippy top of Hyrule castle. That takes major COURAGE to constantly be surrounded by that swirling malice that's Calamity Ganon.

So I got some ancient arrows and decided to defeat the Guardians near the central tower. I thought I was in for a challenge but they each went down with one hit. Felt anti-climatic af considering all the shit they gave me early game.

Finally finished the game. Having the run up to the castle was great and although he was piss easy, I enjoyed Ganon's final forms.

His first introduction made me feel like I was playing something from a Souls game.

Just a good time all around. I really really liked the idea of exploring a Hyrule that has been so weathered by time.

What's the verdict on where this falls? I remember Zelda adding a twilight line in one of those memories so I kind of thought it might follow TP.
Super disappointed I couldn't stable this.

Like, c'mon.

Star file isn't really different than dropping you off before you started but it does save stuff like compendium photos you took of Ganon. And maybe ties into the world "leveling up" in loot and difficulty. You might as well continue from that.

The game really gives you tons of OP options against guardians. Ancient arrows, laser deflection, Master Sword double power, ancient armour resistance, leg cutting... Fun to fight but almost too many options, compared to Lynels that mostly stay a threat.

That line is a source of nagging conflict in timeline discussions, from what I've gathered, haha. It lightly contradicts other timeline stuff in the game, like Ruto being a sage.

I just finished the game today! Before I went to Hyrule Castle proper I insisted that I had all of the shrines finished up. I made an album with some of my screenshots from the game (some of which are from cutscenes during parts with cool cinematography): http://imgur.com/a/0W8Ae

Link's classic outfit in this game looks a little off, especially with the shorts and boots combo, so I stuck with a green painted Hyrule knight chest piece along with his hat. Made for a very badass scene, storming Hyrule Castle with all of the Champions' weapons in tow. I saved them in my house, along with the Hylian Shield, for the very final area of the game, where I would pull out all the stops and kill every single enemy in Hyrule Castle on my way to Ganon. I succeeded. I wanted to make the gameplay match thematically with what was going on in the story. I deflected Guardian lasers, bashed enemies into the ground with the Master Sword and its amazing sound effects, and cleaned up the west. Nothing would hide from this light, motherfuckers.

I had some issues with the game as it went on, but I still really liked it. I want all future 3D Zelda games to improve on this style and co-exist with the 2D, top-down entries. Solid 8/10 for me.

Thanks for the heads up on the save file.

I'm going to say something kind of controversial.

While Lynels are absurdly powerful. I think they are actually really easy now. I ran in to a Savage Lynel in Hebra. Tried the distance game wih arrows and accidentally walked into a method much like souls where you go in shield up the entire fight. It cost me one Knight Shield by the end but I took very little hits learning the pattern and just played it slow & steady.

This method has worked perfectly now in subsequent fights. Go in shield up the whole time it almost felt unfair. Its worked against a whie mane and red man, figure it'll work on a blue maned too.

Almost felt like they wanted to say that the timelines had all kind of converged or whatever but this was the end result since it's been so long.

Like there are just so many legends and stories that it's all so malleable at this point. Bits flew into one story and then into the other.

That could all work with the 10,000 years timeline. Like a hey we're cutting that stuff out and putting it all in order now. That stuff happened but now we can start fresh and tie allt he rest off as pre-BOTW

They should have had a coloring system in place when you haven't explored an area yet.

Look at the world map. Zoom in on hyrule castle.

There are many ways intended or unintended towards Ganon. Found a raft near the prison, which you can take to the docks for example. The east side has a passage in one of the mining areas.
There's also the long way around from going in tunnels and going outside.

If you follow those three paths you should end up in the library.

Wife took a waterfall swim right in to the library, so there are all kinds of great ways to sneak in. The key is getting around and whacking everyone. Monster Vendor came in very handy here. Very handy.

I just completed the storyline (80 hours, 17.2%!) I really love this game, they NAILED the sense of exploration, which is to me what the Zelda series is all about. I liked the story too, how 100 years ago they failed at just about everything - Gannon turned their machines against them, slew their champions and leadership, and Zelda just kept getting more and more frustrated about not figuring out the power she was supposed to have. And then figured it out too late, creating a doomed world for 100 years banking on Link being able to do it all mostly alone without a memory of his skills or what happened before.

However, the music disappoints me. Or, the lack thereof. Most of the game you hear a piano plink once in a while, they rarely play anything remotely interesting outside of cutscenes and boss fights. Even most of the end credits is just playing a bunch of songs you already heard in the game, unchanged as far as I can tell. Sure, there were moments of awesome music, but a game with this much content and polish deserves an epic soundtrack.

Can't wait for the DLC's!

Man, the final armor sure is strong, but there isn't much point to getting it after you've completed everything...

I've yet to fight the Lynels in the coliseum though. Think I'll upgrade all the BOTW tunic before I do that!

I think the problem is, why do it though? Ganon's easy enough that you dont need the hylian shield and theres a waterfall that takes you straight to the top without having to face anything outside of a couple guardians. I guess its nice to find some story bits, but in terms of risk/reward it doesn't make sense to not just beeline up that waterfall.

I feel like if they removed the waterfalls it would have been a lot better. Then it would be a lot harder to get to the top with guardians shooting at you and everything and you'd be more encouraged to go through the inside some.

Regarding the Zelda line about twilight and stuff, I just want to point out that this wouldn't be the first time a character made a reference to an out-of-timeline game. In WW, the King of Red Lions references MM when he tells Link about the Hero of Time and how the Triforce of Courage got split.

Why do anything in this game? Nothing is required after the plateau but fighting Ganon.

You explore because it's enjoyable.

I think theres a line where it becomes too easy though, yes exploration is fun but when theres points of interest, like reaching the final boss of the game, I dont think its a good idea to let people just easily bypass everything without a thought. It should at least be somewhat of a struggle to get to ganon. If the boss was super hard and you REALLY needed that hylian shield to protect yourself it would make sense, as then you would be forced to backtrack and explore the castle, but in its current state theres no tradeoff for just skipping the whole castle.

When I first fought Ganon, I wasn't skilled or equipped enough to face that many guardians. I was glad that I could just go face him and avoid them using stealth.

Now, I'm much stronger and better at the game. I have no problem destroying everything in my path. I think it's cool that there are multiple ways to reach him – just how there are multiple ways to solve almost ever puzzle in the game.

What I didn't like was the fact that Zelda's diary contained some really important story info, yet majority of players probably won't end up finding it in her room.

No, he says:

"When the Hero of Time was called to
embark on another journey and left the
land of Hyrule, he was separated from the
elements that made him a hero.
It is said that at that time, the Triforce of
Courage was split into eight shards and
hidden throughout the land."

Which can refer to him journeying to an alternate timeline. People just assumed it was referencing Termina.

But seriously. That line about twilight is so non-specific that it shouldn't be taken as such a strong indicator, especially since the more specific evidence contradicts it. It's not like Zelda mentions Zant and Midna.

It makes more sense that it references OoT Link's journey out of *their* Hyrule and into the other timeline. The Triforce of Courage would no longer have a hero to be attached to in that timeline, so it shattering makes some sense. I don't remember if Link still had it in MM or not, or if it even came up at all.

By the end of Ocarina of Time, he has the Triforce of Courage in the childtime.

Highly likely he had it in Majora's Mask too, but it was irrelevant to the story.

I think the problem with the castle are those annoying guardians, most players will try to avoid them and climb to the top because they are so dangerous.

When you first arrive at the front gate, that was a missed opportunity because instead of being closed and force you to the side it should have been open so you can explore inside the castle after avoiding those fucking guardians, and arrive at the top floor eventually.

The outside area would still have been there for people that want to see even more.but they won't feel forced to use their climb abilities.
